How to unlock the Survival Training Master achievement in Dead Rising 3 - Definitive Guide

25 different Survival Trainings can be found throughout the game. They are marked as stars on the map, initially appearing in black and changing to the color of your highest medal after completion. I found them extremely easy to complete to gold at level 50 with max stats. Just make sure you know where you need to go from the starting point to find big groups of zombies.

General kills: You can use anything. A RollerHawg will make it trivial.
Kills with vehicles/combo vehicles: Use a RollerHawg.
Kills with combo weapons: I generally would use the Split Shot but any combo weapon will work.
Kills with fire weapons: I used an Electrofire Staff (you toggle between fire and electric by using the Y attack- once it is toggled to fire, use the X attack).
Kills with shock weapons: I used Electrofire Staff (you toggle between fire and electric by using the Y attack- once it is toggled to electric, use the X attack).
Kills with firearms: I used the Split Shot.
Melee kills: I'd punch or kick until at a 5 combo, then use the Hammer Spin skill move (grab a zombie with Y+B and hold right on the left stick).

General kills: RollerHawgs or Ultimate Grim Reapers make it a joke!!!
Kills with combo weapons: Again, Ultimate Grim Reapers (Edit: and Jazz Hands) make it a joke!!! (I hit the cn_Y button maybe 4 times, and I got gold!!)
Kills with fire weapons: Ultimate Grim Reapers or the Fire Reaper (Actually, I haven't tried the Ultimate Grim Reaper, but I'm going to see if it counts as fire or explosive) (Just out of curiosity, I wanna check if the Rollerhawg's weapon counts as well)
Kills with firearms: I used the Z.A.R. (plus Jazz Hands are incredible!!!!) after I unlocked the piercing ability (Late in game, when you have a huge chunk of zombies piled together....easy!!!)
Melee kills: I haven't done this yet (too scared, lol), but your idea sounds REALLY good!!!

Just to add: fire kills- RollerHawg
Electric Kills: Use the vehicle that uses the ambulance.
Firearms and combo weapons-teddy bears with splitshot to make it easier

I only needed level 50 for the melee kills since you can max out everything like health regen, unlimited run, equip all books and melee damage to make it 10x easier. The rest I did at level 20-30.

Oops. The combo vehicle that uses the ambulance and use teddy bears to help while you use the splitshot.

The RollerHawg is good, but you can kill even more with the Junk Car (Not Junk Truck). The Junk Car ejects acid in 3 directions. The RollerHawg is wide and may get stuck.

And these challenges do not carry over. I did my nightmare run today and you will have to start over. PP challenges carry over which is good.

It appears even though the challenge's medals may not carry over between co-op plays and your own story, the game still tracks each challenge's completion.

I've been playing co-op in a friend's game and he's not yet completed all challenges but my achievement popped after completing the 25 separate challenges, cumulative across both games.

Is this glitching for anyone else? I have 25 separate golds and popped silver and bronze achievements, but gold never popped?

I appear to be missing a mission? I am constantly in the area searching for the location but the green smoke never appears so I cannot access the mission. It is the one on the highway right between Ingleton and South Almuda.

Never mind, it appears that walking over the location will still allow you to access the mission even if the green smoke is not there.

Is anyone else having issues with this popping? I have 25 gold stars and in the tracker it says 100%... But it's still locked. Does it pop at the end when you beat the game or once you complete all the challenges?

It popped for me immediately upon completing the final challenge.

I've found the electric shout to be the best for electro damage, go into a crowd and use the Y Attack, watch em fly! It's got great range and a SUPER wide area of attack.

Also popped for me without having all of the challenges in my game gold. I had 5 or 6 gold from a coop game.

So, this achievement requires that you get a gold medal in each of the 25 Survival challenges? You cannot simply re-do the same Survival challenge 25 times?

Ok I tried to load up a chapter and did all challenges over again. I got gold on every challenge again but still got no achievement. Does someone know if there is a way to reset the achievement tracker? Because it still shows 100 % but achievement is still locked

Hi sorry that I kinda spam this thread with so many comments, but I found a solution to my problem right here: http://www.xboxachievements.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56244...

If you join someone's game online and complete one challenge he/ she has not, the achievement unlocks. At least that happend to me. Hope this helps others in the same situation.

There is one in the lower-left quadrant of the city up on a rooftop near streets with a crashed train in it. I cannot seem to get up there. Any advice? I tried making my way over to the building atop the train but can't seem to jump from the train onto the rooftop.

If I recall correctly, you need to climb out the window of the second floor of the strip club. Then go across the rooftops, using wooden board bridges to get to the star.

so since they dont carry over across playthroughs, is there anyway to tell what ones you need? all of mine are showing as gold, but on the tracker it says I am only 60% done. I really dont want to have to go do them all over again and randomly get ones that arent counting

Visually you should really update the achievement with the info for glitching since it seems to be quite common.

Indeed, it is glitchy. I had the Silver one pop first, then after a few more, the Gold one popped, but the Bronze one has yet to pop. So weird.

Also the "MiniGun" makes short work of most challenges if you bought the DLC.

I was stuck on 98% with all stars on the map gold. Jumped online and did a challenge the host hadn't and all three achievements popped. Also i just noticed when I loaded up chapter 6 there were extra challenges that weren't there on chapter 3.

@BastiXS96, I am curious myself about "is it possible to to 25 times the same challenge", I'm gonna jump on later and redo a challenge I already got gold on, and see if the tracker goes up.....I keep this forum informed!!!

I need help with something, I finished Normal Mode, and had 60% on my tracker......I got 5 gold medals on Nightmare Mode and my tracker still stays at 60%,,,,,,

Now mind you, like I stated above, I did a chapter select in Normal mode, and redid a challenge I got gold in before and my tracker went up

Edit: Nevermind, I finally got it!!

For the more isolated challenges, you can use Zombait (meat + meat) to attract a bunch of zombies and then perform combos on all of them. One of the bare fist challenges is pretty isolated.

I got glitched at 96% for both silver and gold. I got gold on everything and the stars on the map were all 25 gold. Joined a coop game, pulled a minigun out the locker, did the nearest challenge the host hadn’t done to gold and they both unlocked.

^ THANK YOU SO MUCH for that tip. I too was stuck at 96% for bronze and silver and 92% on gold despite having all 25 gold on my map. Luckily someone else was playing and redoing two challenges umlocked this for me.

Also got all three survival achievements glitch on me, stuck at 92% with everything completed.
Replaying a chapter resets the stars visually but winning again does NOT give progress.
Joined a casual player (be ready to be kicked a few times) and completing two challenges there finally allowed me to complete them.

For the record, all Survival Training exercises are available/accessible (as soon as they open up...chapter 1?). I thought the one in the very middle of the map was not available, because it was below the highway. Access to below the highway is south of the star's location.

Just to note though...While the survival training challenges do reset in the game when you restart, the achievement will still keep track of the ones you've already done. So if you completed 10 your first run, you'll only need to do the other 15 to pop the achievement. smile

@TroolinNooB Yes you can load a chapter after finishing the storyline.
@BastiXS96 According to other comments above yours they stack but don't track between play throughs.

This is for BastiX96

Update: I beat the game, and did a "Chapter Select", all my "Survival Training" icons were reset like I haven't done the yet..........but.....heres the good news!! I redid one in Sunset Hills that I know for a fact I got gold in when I did it in the main story, and got gold again, and the progress tracker did go up!!!!

But, here is the kicker....I did the same exact Challenge again, and got gold again, and it didn't count, so I guess the only way to "grind" this is to use Chapter Select

If you look at your map, you will notice some star icons. These particular icons indicate Survival Training challenges that can be completed for huge PP bonuses. Each of the challenges will require you to kill a specific number of enemies with a specific type of weapon or vehicle. The catch is, you only have a minute to complete the training sessions. Many of these challenges can be completed using The Rollerhawg to quickly flatten your foes. The more challenging unarmed training sessions can be completed using the unarmed bonus damage book and knee drop combo. If you're having any issue with completing the Survival Training, there's a really good guide here detailing them further.

Note: I did not create the below, linked guide.

Knock out medals ONLY with an Internet connection, otherwise your progress will stop at 96% and that’s it, there will be no completion. I ran into it!

These courses are marked with a star on the map, they are all quite easy, in 1 minute you must kill zombies in one way or another.

You shouldn't waste your time on testing at the beginning of the game. With a regular car or a simple weapon, you won’t be able to get gold, but with upgraded vehicles and weapons everything becomes simple. I recommend taking on the tests after level 50, when it becomes possible to make your vehicle “immortal” (your vehicle will explode only when will turn over). This way, after each test, you won’t run back to the garage through crowds of zombies to rivet a new car. The best vehicle for testing in general is a motorized roller. The only negative for me is that if he runs into barrels or cars, they immediately explode, causing him damage. This is where the transport perk comes in handy, which becomes available after level 50. With him, we won’t give a damn about damage to the car (it will explode if you just roll over). Best firearm: jazz hands and multi-barrel. The best electric weapons: electric staff (namely its strong attack) and electric scream. Best Fire: Electric Fire Staff. With this weapon you will mow down crowds of zombies very quickly (I usually had 20 seconds left when I took gold). It is better to complete the tests where you need to kill zombies with your bare hands when you get the “stuntman” book, which increases the damage from melee attacks. Damage is also affected by leveling up the “hand-to-hand combat” attribute.
