How to unlock the Hornet's Nest achievement in Dead Space 2 - Definitive Guide

Easiest way to win this fight is to injure the tripod by shooting off one of its limbs, then stasising it. This way, even if they come out of stasis, it'll be harder for them to catch up to you as you run them in circles collecting canisters.

You'll get this through story progression at the end of Chapter 9. You'll come to an open room with tentacles wrapped around "tanks," as Isaac calls them. Quite thankfully, they are explosive. You have to blow these up to get the tentacles out of the way and allow Ellie and Stross to descend in the tram. There should be a couple of red canisters sitting around, and a supply of them placed in the nearby wall you can Kinesis-fire to blow the tanks up.

Continue down into the central area and you'll find another tank that will take a few extra shots. Once you initially fire on it, Tripod Necromorphs will begin to attack. If you have enough Stasis, you can really just slow them down and focus on finding those red canisters to blow up the tank.

After you've finally blown it up, continue up the elevator you have to go up and you'll get the achievement once you rendezvous with Ellie and Stross.

Story Related. Unlocks in Chapter 9.

You’ll come to a section where you are supposed to throw Flammable Cylinders at Nitrogen TriChloride (NCL3) tanks. The first NCL3 tank won’t pose much of a problem, but when you go down to destroy the second one however, a Tripod will appear.

Freeze him, shoot off one of his limbs very quickly, and then run around grabbing Flammable Cylinders off the 2 spawn points on the walls and keep focusing only on the NCL3 tank. Killing the tripod will only make another one appear and waste your precious ammo, so severing one limb and limiting his movement is enough.

When you’re done, take the elevator at the far end and board the transport, unlocking this trophy in the process.
