How to unlock the Necro Flambé achievement in Dead Space 2 - Definitive Guide

This achievement is for killing 50 Necromorphs with the flamethrower. The flamethrower schematic can be found in Chapter 6 in a classroom on your right (previously locked, I think it was the room with the first exploding baby and the teacher) after leaving the gymnasium after the ambush there.

I found the easiest way to get this was killing infants (not the exploding babies though) and parasites as the Flamethrower is fairly short range but useful against swarms. Cysts DON'T count towards the achievement. Use primary fire rather than secondary as secondary is not especially effective for the amount of ammo it uses.

It can also be effective in one on one situations with larger enemies eg Slashers as flaming them tends to halt their movement towards you.

There is a counter in the "achievements" menu that you can access by hitting start. Note that progress towards the achievement is recorded at checkpoints so hitting "checkpoint restart" will wipe any progress since the last checkpoint, so you can't just find a good spot, spam it, and then restart the checkpoint.

I haven't yet tested whether saving a game, killing enemies, making it to a checkpoint, then reloading the save and repeating the section would work. Edit: NorrisMM has suggested this will not work either (i.e. you need to do it the hard way!).

if only the flamethrower was actually a decent weapon which could actually kill the necromancers effectively maybe in DS3 they will hopefully scrap it in favor for an more better weapon

I got it before escape through the CEC Facility, (Chapter 7) after the explosion, the necromorphs starts spawning endlessly from everywhere, just equip the Flamethrower and start killing them, they always drops ammo and stuff even for the Flamethrower, when youre at least 10 sec. before the air runs out, exit through the CEC Facility and done... you can do some other achievements there too... when the achievement pops, just reload the game (it works for me) theres a save spot right before this room...

Strange. The swarm isn't being registered as kills from the flamethrower. Might just have to revisit on the following run.

Most useless weapon in the game (same was in the original DS). I recommend to start using it as soon as you can, cause in later parts of the game the enemies will be even more resistant and in big numbers. The best way is to have weapon DLC, if so you can start racking kills right from the beginning of the game.

The Flame-Thrower Schematic can be found in Chapter 6, at the end of the "school' area, after the giant necromorph attack on the gymnasium stage. After being attacked by the Crawlers and Pack in the gym, exit through the door on the right (if you are facing the bleachers). Follow the hallway down and to the left. The room on the right, where the woman was hugging the Crawler, will contain the schematic. Purchase the flame-thrower at the next store and start racking up kills. This weapon burns through fuel quickly so I recommend using it during encounters with multiple necromorphs. Always keep extra fuel canisters on reserve.

Once you have acquired the Flamethrower schematic in Chapter 6 and bought the weapon, use this to burn 50 enemies. You should target weaker enemies like The Pack as the flamethrower tends to eat alot of ammo very quickly.

In chapter 6, we select a flamethrower design, at the beginning of chapter 7 we buy it, but I advise you to take up this trophy after beating the game. We start “New Game +” and use stasis to kill everyone.

I would like to add that the flamethrower is very effective if you shoot cylinders (in alt. fire mode). Kills black creatures with one volley, except for black runners. Just don't fry yourself, shoot at medium distance.

I got a trophy for my first playthrough without even bothering.

again, in the game there is a body stuck to the wall. It spits out strange bags with tongues, it’s easiest to burn 50 enemies on it! Just burn the bags and wait for the body to spit out more!
