Just the Tip

Just the Tip

Craft a weapon using a MK-II Weapon Tip.

How to unlock the Just the Tip achievement in Dead Space 3 - Definitive Guide

This achievement is unlocked by going to the crafting table and creating a weapon that contains any MK-II weapon tip. All you really need to use is a frame, an upper module, and a tip. In order to be able to attach a MK-II weapon tip, you must install it on a MK-II weapon frame. A standard frame will not work. There are two ways to do this:

1). If you have already completed the game once, and you completed all optional mission including the co-op missions, then you will already have the MK-II frames unlocked. If you collected all the artifacts during your first playthrough, then you will already have the MK-II tip set unlocked. Now all you need to do is get to the nearest crafting table and build yourself a weapon.

2). If you don't already have the required parts, then here's what you need to do: Right at the beginning, after talking with Carver, head right past the grapple climbing gizmo and look in the back corner of the cave on the ground to find a weapon part. This part is a MK-II Overclocked Heavy Frame. Now climb up out of the cave. When you come to the very first building that you can enter (it contains a crafting table) head through it and go back outside. Make an immediate right when you exit and go around the corner of the building. Laying on the ground next to the building is a Directed Suspension Field, which is a MK-II weapon tip. Head back into the building, go to the handily close by crafting table, and make your weapon.

The achievement will unlock immediately. If you do not wish to keep the weapon you just made, then place it in the safe, open up the safe in the crafting table, and disassemble the weapon to get your parts back.

Good solution but one thing to note: after leaving the building you can't re-enter immediately. You need to go forward a bit until you see someone after which you can return to the building.

This has to be done inside the Awakened DLC. I tried to do it outside and while I made a weapon with a MK-II tip it did not unlock the achievement. So, if you want to make this while in the DLC that works but what I did was go back into the DLC through chapter select since I didn't look at the achievement list beforehand.

I didn't exactly scour the DLC for the weapon parts but if you know this series it's that usually the parts and such are just around a corner that's off in the other direction of where you need to go. I found two MK-II weapon tips in the DLC. One though WAS behind a torque bar door so if you have Tungsten saved up and you probably should by now.....use it because there's at least 3-4 of these doors in the DLC and like I said one has the weapon tip in it.

That's probably the easiest way, but if you already beat the game your inventory also carries over. So if you are playing your regular save and you got the collectible type that unlocks the MK II tips you already have all the ones you need, or if you beat pure survival campaign you'll have all the MK II parts unlocked for every save.

I guess that works too.

To get this trophy you must meet the requirements while playing the Awakened DLC. It cannot be unlocked in the main storyline.

Make sure you have a few torque bars in your inventory. There is a MK-II tip behind one of the locked doors. I apologize greatly but I cannot for the life of me remember which chapter of the DLC it is. There are a few of these doors so as long as you have 3 or 4 torque bars, you will be fine.

Once you have the necessary part you can just head to a weapons bench and craft any quick weapon. The trophy will pop once you are done crafting. No need to save it in your inventory or actually use it!

If you have beaten the main game on Pure Survival mode you will have the MK-II tips in your inventory already. Just go to a workbench and apply the tips to any weapon that will take them. The Upper and Lower tips are the only areas you can apply the MK-II tips.

If you haven’t beaten the main game on Pure Survival then you will not be able to get this trophy on Pure Survival difficulty. You will need to play the DLC on Normal mode to get the MK-II tips as a result.

Right at the beginning, after talking with Carver, look in the back corner of the cave and on the ground will be a weapon part. This part is a MK-II Overclocked Heavy Frame. Then climb up out of the cave and when you reach the first building you can enter, head through it and go back outside. Take an immediate right when you exit and go around the corner of the building and you will find a Directed Suspension Field, which is a MK-II weapon tip, on the ground next to the building. Head back into the building and craft a weapon with the parts.

Having reached the first workbench, assemble a new weapon (or modify an old one) with any variator whose name contains "MK-II" .

First, these Modification Variators need to be found by playing the “Awakened” Add-on, and only then approach the machine and modify the weapon.

You need to create a weapon with any MK-II variator, but if you have such a weapon, just remove this part from it and install it again.

If the main game is completed in the "Survival" mode, then there will already be modifiers in the inventory and all you need to do is reach the machine.
