How to unlock the Space Ace achievement in Dead Space 3 - Definitive Guide

Space Ace (Secret)
Shoot at least 70 targets during the ride to Tau Volantis.

The opportunity for this achievement is at the end of Chapter 7. You will begin to fly the ship through space, and will be shooting targets during the flight.

For this achievement it is highly recommended that you do this in co-op. This achievement is very easy in co-op because you only have to either control or shoot, instead of both. Also, the main benefit is that during the predefined sequence where the ship needs a repair, 1 of you will still be able to shoot targets while the other repairs the ship, allowing you to easily get an extra 10-20 targets than solo. The achievement unlocks for both players as soon as you reach 70 total targets.

Keep in mind that you are able to "Restart Checkpoint" if you miss a lot of targets and are not comfortable continuing. Just make sure to restart the checkpoint sooner than later to give you a better chance.

Lastly, if you feel like you want to do this solo, it is hard, but still possible. First off, you'll want to get on the ship in Chapter 7, now "Save & Quit", and go back to the dashboard. Make a copy of your save onto the USB, and then start the game again using your harddrive save. This is useful because if you fail, you can back out and swap the USB save onto your harddrive faster than having to replay the entire 15 minute chapter. During the actual flight, you have very little room for error, maybe missing a total of 5 or so targets. If you miss anything, feel free to restart the checkpoint before it autosaves. If you are able to pull it off, you'll unlock the achievement during the section with the snow and rocks, as you get to the magical 70 targets.

Just a note for doing this solo. Make sure you're flying at the bottom of the flight path squares. Last two times I did this I missed targets because they were below my view of the debris.

Got this one last night. I agree - HIGHLY recommended you do it co-op, as Carver can continue to shoot while Isaac repairs the ship. I stood by the canisters until the achievement popped, then did the repairs and continued the mission.

Do the mines and debris continue to appear until you repair the ship, so you could just stand there for ages until you get the achievement?

@UnafraidAverage - If you decide to stand there until the achievement pops, it still won't take that long. The guy that I did it with already had the achievement, so he knew what to expect. Obviously, since I was playing Isaac, I couldn't see what he saw since I was at the back of the ship. Maybe 20 seconds after I got to the back the achievement popped and we continued.

Its not too difficult but it took me like 10 minutes of checkpoint restarts to get it, and i got it on the very last ice burg shot. So it takes a little practice.

Just wanted to pop in and say that doing it solo really isn't that hard. Just to reinforce what DaCoders already said. Got it on my second go.

Popped this solo last night, only had to checkpoint restart once cos I missed a few near the start while I got used to the controls. Got it on my second attempt with 2 or 3 targets left to spare.

Don't really see the need to copy a save file to USB. If you haven't got the achievement by the time you've shot the 4 or 5 targets on the ice section just pause the game when the cutscene starts and save/quit & restart.

If like me you have this digital with 2 xboxes then you can do it. Just invite other account right before entering ship and if you continue to shoot while Isaac is supposed to be repairing the ship, you can get it before mission failure

This isn't that hard to do alone, i did it on first try with no effort really.
I didn't miss anyone in the first part, i missed one or two the second part and the third part i missed about three i think, i just restarted checkpoint if i lost a bunch, which i knew i could get.
And i had it on the fourth ice target - Achievement Unlocked!
So don't be scared about people saying it's hard, it really isn't but it's easier to do Co-op for sure.

It took me two attempts. The 4th cluster of debris as soon as the second sideways floating piece of ship lifts, you want to be going crazy with your firing. On the way down to Tau Volantis, you need to point the ship down just before you get to be on the planet surface as a lot of them can be missed below your line of sight.

The achievement unlocks as soon as you destroy the 70th and not when you land. You also don't need to do anything with any USB stick or playing around. If you are about to land or hit that last ice debris and it hasn't popped, save and quit and then load from the last save and you will start literally in front the ship controls ready to go again.

Michael and Jack show you how to get the "Space Ace" Achievement in Dead Space 3 for the Xbox 360. Pew pew!

there's only 71 objects and you need shoot down 70 objects to get the achievement.

(before you give me a "thumbs down" on this or any other solution. Tell what I can do to fix it)

Hey everyone, just a quick video showing how best to get this one. Co-op is the way to go when getting it, but honestly solo isn't as bad as it sounds. Hope the video helps!

In Chapter 7, you’ll be tasked with making various repairs to a ship. Once you’ve done all that, you’ll be piloting the ship down towards the planet. Obstacles will appear in your path with red borders. Move your target reticule over them and they’ll turn orange, and the ship’s weapons will lock onto it. You do not need to hold the target over the object. Press to fire homing missiles. To reach the goal of 70, you’ll need to destroy practically every object you see. The trophy will unlock once you’ve destroyed the last few frozen ledges on the planet. Video by Powerpyx.

If you have any difficulties with this, as it turned out to be a simple trophy, here’s an interesting point - the flight is divided into 3 stages with autosave :

  • Stage 1. The flight is slow, there are few targets, at the end of the stage about 10 targets appear simultaneously.
  • Stage 2. The flight is fast, in the middle of the flight you need to work with kinesis in the transport cabin, there are a lot of targets, but 3-4 at most appear, quickly replacing each other.
  • Stage 3. Shooting snow rocks.
Before each stage there is an autosave .

Here's an example: let's say in the 1st stage you shot down 99% of the targets, and the 2nd stage didn't work out - click [start] and "Checkpoint" . In this case, NOT THE START OF FLIGHT , but the beginning of the 2nd stage will be loaded. And it works the same way with the other stages, i.e. If something doesn’t work out, you don’t have to go through the whole flight again . I just received this trophy with the loading of stage checkpoints.

Important point: if you have not received the trophy within 3 seconds after crashing into the last snowy rock (at this moment the shooting crosshair disappears), press [start] and “Save and Exit”. Load the last checkpoint and repeat the above.

PS I thought I would suffer for a long time with this trophy (like with “Don’t get cocky, kid” in the first Dead Space). But I got it on the third try when replaying it in Classic mode.

I got the trophy in a co-op while sitting at the helm, while my partner was in the wild.

Chapter 7 CMS "Grills".
The main thing is to get into the wreckage of ships, after the first stage of red objects, you can fill most of them.
I succeeded on the 3rd attempt, + I counted the number of targets I hit.

The trophy is 100% given until Isaac's girlfriend flies overboard.

in co-op you can just sit at the turret so as not to be distracted by all other things and calmly get this trophy. This is exactly what I received, without even suspecting its existence. and just playing for fun.

There is no need to shoot the target when it turns orange. For example, at the beginning there are three targets, move the cursor over them, they turn orange, one shot and all three targets are shot down! That is, you do not need to hit the shoot key if the target is orange. In short, 10 targets can be knock them down with two or three shots, the main thing is to mark them.
