How to unlock the Brute Force achievement in Dead Space - Definitive Guide
Story related, cannot be missed.
Your first encounter with a Brute occurs early in Chapter 4: Obliteration Imminent, where you first visit the bridge. As you enter the Atrium, you will need to visit the Captains Nest and speak to Hammond.
As you return to the Atrium, you’ll approach a door which is then broken through by the Brute, sending the Atrium into lockdown. In the original 2008 game, you could dismember its left and right limbs to kill it, but that doesn’t seem to work anymore.
The Brute will charge at you, so use your Stasis and get behind it. You’ll see a highlighted, fleshy weak spot you’ll need to shoot at. Depending on your Stasis and upgrades, it may take a few repeats to kill it. The Plasma Cutter is the best all-rounded tool in the game and works well on Brutes.
Good luck!

I've created a 36 second YouTube Short guide showing how to get the Brute Force achievement by killing a brute. The first Brute you encounter in the game is in Chapter 4: Obliteration Imminent. This is an unmissable encounter, and you pretty much have to kill the brute to progress.
As far as I can tell there are 2 great methods to killing a Brute. Stasis and take the arms off at the shoulder joints, or stasis and shoot the orange spots on the brute's back.

You run into a brute on Chapter 4 just after getting your security level 2 clearance on the deck.
Other solutions are fine but I wanted to point out how underrated the Flamethrower is in this game. You need to have stasis charges so that you can slow him down (I had the stasis duration up to 8 seconds). Shoot the brute with stasis, then run behind him and just unload the Flamethrower on his back. You don't even really have to aim and can just hold down the trigger. Re-freeze him and reload if you have to but keep unleashing fire on his back and you'll see him crumple quickly. I did this on Hard mode and it was still really easy this way.
I never used the Flamethrower in the original game, but it is an absolute lifesaver in the remake.

During the game you will face many of these. The Line Gun is very good against them. Try and shoot them between the shoulder blades. Other times, if you shoot them enough they will lay down and get tired and then you can go around behind them and shoot their back until they die.
The 1st Brute can be found on Chapter 4. Brutes are very large armored Necromorphs. There are three spots to damage the Brute – His back, and his arms right by its shoulders, everything else is covered in armor. When the Brute begins to charge you, shoot it with Stasis to slow it down. Then switch to your Plasma Cutter and shoot off one of its arms. The Brute will fall over in pain but it is still alive. Use stasis on it again and shoot off its remaining arm, this will fully kill the Brute and the trophy will be yours.

You’ll meet your first Brute near the beginning of Chapter 4. Despite their intimidating size, killing these guys is actually pretty easy. You just need to hit them with Stasis in order to slow them down, then run around behind them, and shoot the glowing pus sacks on their backs. Rinse and repeat until the Brute is dead, and make sure to pick up the Node that they drop.

Brutus can be killed quite simply and without wasting almost any ammunition in the following way: we throw stasis at him, go behind him and shoot off his leg, after which the Brute cannot move. Then we stand in front of him and, using kinesis, catch the balls that he spits at you and throw them back. It won’t be too fast, but you will practically not waste ammunition, which is so valuable on high difficulties.

With a pipe cutter, you can simply destroy this enemy while standing face to face. We freeze it with stasis, turn on the pipe cutter so that the blade rotates at a distance, then we approach the enemy and throw the blade OVER his head, so this hellish grinder will rotate right in his back)

Brute is a hefty gorilla (basically it rams you, if it starts spitting, it means you are slowing down). A completely harmless creature if you know how to wet it (even at an unrealistic difficulty level). First of all, we freeze the thug, move a little to the side and shoot at the shoulders, they are yellow. Literally after a couple of shots he will curl up, covered with armor. Don’t forget to keep him frozen at all times, go behind him and shoot at his legs (the vulnerable spot is also yellow). And the giant is defeated

Brutes are “tanks” that look like orangutans. It is quite difficult to confuse them with someone else; you will meet him for the first time in the fourth chapter. These creatures are vulnerable from the back.
