How to unlock the S.O.S. achievement in Dead Space - Definitive Guide
On my YouTube channel I've created a pair of gameplay walkthrough videos covering chapter 7 of this game.
Chapter 7: Into the Void - Part 1 - In this video Isaac goes to the Mining Deck to find the SOS Beacon hoping to call for a rescue. On the Mining Sub Deck we learn that the launch tubes are sealed. We have to search for a deck administrator's RIG. We then head for the Processing Sub Deck to look for Supervisor Dallas. To get to the RIG we have to clear the room with the Processing Beam of "dangerous anomalies" by grabbing the yellow rocks and throwing them into the beam. With the RIG in hand, we now head to the Maintenance Sub Deck to search for the SOS Beacon that Temple created.
Chapter 7: Into the Void - Part 2 - In this video Isaac continues exploring the Mining Deck to find the SOS Beacon created by Temple. While exploring the Maintenance Sub Deck we finally find Nichole. After a short battle defending Nichole, she's able to get the door to the workshop open so we can get the beacon. We part ways with Nichole and return to the Mining Sub Deck to try to launch the beacon, but the launch tubes are obstructed. To launch the beacon, we now have to release gravity tethers holding an asteroid in place and plant the beacon on the asteroid. Once done we head back to the control room to launch the asteroid and beacon which triggers a Hunter encounter. At the end of the chapter, we remember the Comms Array is still in need of repair. Without repairs there could be no rescue, so we're off to Bridge next.
In Chapter 7 Part 2 we find schematics for the Intermediate Miner RIG, a Flamethrower upgrade, and die 1 time trying to release the external gravity tethers (Total Death Count: 6).

Just in case! If anyone is stuck in passing the asteroid's gravitational grips. Everything is clear with the first two.
But the other two are waiting for you in outer space, to get there just jump onto the asteroid and run into the vacuum!

Everything is quite simple here. If you can find a video on the Internet.
Just jump onto the ball via L1+triangle. And run along it. You jump there too.
