Dead Space

This achievement is awarded for completing the “Scientific Methods” side mission. It is the first side mission of the game that becomes available during Chapter 2.

All side missions can be tracked on the third tab of your RIG, so keep a look out for when the next part of the mission becomes available. The RIG can direct you if you select your side mission over the main mission. Your pointer will change from Blue to Orange if you have selected a side mission.

There are 5 communications you need to collect at different points in the game. These are:

Chapter 2: Intensive Care.

During Chapter 2 you will need to find a Shock Pad in the Research Wing. Enter the area and the room will go into Lockdown. Clear the upper floor, take the elevator down and clear the lower floor. There are 3 accessible rooms from the elevator: your route to the right which has a Bench, Dr T. Kyne’s office straight ahead and Dr N. Brennan’s office to the left. You need to enter Dr N. Brennan’s and collect the Audio Recording titled “Nicole’s Log” (can be found in the Database after collecting - fourth tab on your RIG). This will begin the mission and future points can also be tracked in your RIG.

Visual recording. As you progress further through the medical deck, you’ll arrive at the emergency room after you destroy the barricade. A recording of Nicole will automatically play when you enter, so this first one is not missable.

However, after this you need to enter the Emergency Shower by following the RIG location (same room as the visual recording and near the power source). You will need to adjust the power source to turn off the lights and open the Showers and use your Kinesis to force the door. Inside is another audio recording that you need to collect.

Chapter 3: Course Correction.

Visual recording. As you enter engineering, at the start of the level, the story will direct you left towards the gondola. Instead of following this route, head straight forwards and enter a side room. Play the recording.

Chapter 7: Into the Void.

Audio recording. As you progress through the mining decks you will be required to enter Deck D. When you step out of the lift, clear the area and head round to the right. Open the door and you’ll see 4 storage rooms with a fuse panel at the end of the hall, which will give you access to each room. There is an audio recording on the desk in storage room 2. Play the recording.

Chapter 10: End of Days.

Visual recording. As you progress through the level you will be in the deluxe suite area and the story mission will require you to destroy the second tendril. You will enter an L shaped corridor where many of the rooms are without power. The majority of doors are named Deluxe Shift Bunks or Deluxe Quiet Bunks. Follow the corridor to the left and you’ll see an empty power source at the end; but the door to your right before it will be called the Guest Consultant Suites. Enter it and a recording will play however this is not the one you need. Head forward to the end of the room and there is another door. Enter this room and play the recording directly ahead of you.

I would recommend you watch/listen to the entire recordings because I am not sure whether leaving or closing them early will void your attempt at the achievement.

After clearing the Main Lab near the start of Chapter 2, head down to Dr. Brennan's Office and interact with the audio log on her desk to start the questline. Later, as you enter the Emergency Room, watch the hologram of Dr. Brennan to completion and pay attention to where she walks. Then, divert power to the showers and move the hidden door with kinesis to reveal the next audio log.

Next, watch another hologram in the Calibration Room adjacent to the Machine Shop in Chapter 3. Much later, in Chapter 7, switch power to Secure Storage #2 after arriving on Deck D: Maintenance. Finally, watch the last hologram in the room behind the Guest Consultant's Suite in Chapter 10. Once the final hologram completes, the achievement will unlock.
