How to unlock the Tournament to Kill achievement in Deadliest Warrior: The Game - Definitive Guide

The achievement is basically "win 3 games in a row, 10 times".

The best way to get this achievement is to set up or join a boosting session.
The ideal number of participants is 8 (maximum party size), but can be done more painfully with just 4. Or have a HUGE session which is nothing more than a 'play at this time because online is dead' session.

Create 1-round matches for Fight Lab. Everyone should be Spartan to help with another achievement.
Just fight normally and see who wins.
If you win, good stuff. If you lose, then after the match when it says you lost and gives you the option of continuing, DO NOT press A to continue. Instead, quit to the dashboard (press Guide button followed by Y). This will not affect the other player's progress but it will stop you from moving down the ranks.

Once you start getting the achievement, communicate and try to push the others up the ranking.

The tournament levels are:
First Round
Semi-Finals (win a first round fight)
Final (win a semi-final)

Win 10 Finals to get the achievement.

NOTE: if you don't use the dashboard trick, you will start at the first round again whenever you lose, regardless of which round you previously fought in. I hosted two sessions for this achievement and we figured out this halfway through the second session.
Session 1: 4 hours, 2 people got the achievement (little progress for others).
Session 2: 2 hours, 7 people got the achievement (everyone).

There is no tournament as such.
It's just matchmaking with wins-in-a-row, essentially.

I'm sure once we start the tournaments, it'll become more clear on what to do, but I'm trying to map everything out so we're not redoing anything and not making the same mistakes you had stated you had made.

I imagine it sounds more complicated than it really is.

The trick is to pretend it's actually called "win 3 games in a row when matched with players with an equal number of wins in a row" instead of "tournament" :)

It really is just as simple as random matchmaking that only pairs you up with people with the same number of current wins as yourself.

The only mistake you need to avoid is accepting losses. On the "Press A" prompt, dashboard and restart the game. Otherwise you will be reset to 0 wins in a row. Dashboarding prevents the loss from resetting your wins.

It's starting to become more clear - thank you. Maybe it'll click once we start the tournament. Hopefully no one else will be playing this when we go for the achievement. At this point in time, I have eight boosters that applied. I'm hoping having 8 will be best.

Yeah, when myself and a group of five did this, we couldn't figure out how to do this with only three. Once we got a nice routine, we were able to have two players win the tournament simultaneously.

Yeah when I typed that I was either confused/didn't notice the error or simply missed out the word "others" wink

Corrected, thanks for letting me know!

As far as I can tell there's no way to create a 1 round match under Tournaments, you can only do that in Player matches.

Seems to be a great solution, I'm just confused on one step: once a player wins a tournament, can the winner dive back into the same tournament and work his way back up to the top to win again, or does the tournament have to be created again?

I figured it's matchmaking, but with that said, am I aiming to rejoin the same tournament with the same players once I win? Anyway, I'm afraid my question wasn't answered in a way I understand you. So, once someone wins the tournament, the winner would just search for the same tournament and go up the ranks again? Still trying to piece everything together and visualize it. My thought process is that the players doing the dashboard trick will stay in the same round and I would basically just fight them over again until I unlock the achievement and then the next person in line goes for the achievement. Am I getting warmer?

This one can be difficult for two reasons.

Reason #1 - Almost all people playing this game online are grade A jerks. Let me explain. When you play Tournament mode, you start of in First Round. If you win, your next game under Tournament mode will be Semi-Finals, and you will only be matched with people who also have just won a First Round game. Win the Semi-Finals, and your next game will be Finals with someone else who has also won a Semi-Finals round. Win 10 Finals to unlock this achievement. If you loose any game you will start off on a First Round match again. Sounds difficult right? Well it gets harder. This is because the dumb creators of this otherwise fun game mislooked one small but important concept of online gameplay. Fareness. It just so happens that when you leave a game before it ends, even if your losing, it does not count as a loss for you, nor does it count as a win for the other player. See the problem here? Most people just decide to leave before they lose, so they can keep their place in the tournament without having to restart to First Round. But when they do this, it does not count as a win for you, and you don't proceed. All i can say to help you is to please don't behave like this. Be greater than everyone else... be a man. There's truth to this saying: what comes around, goes around.

Reason #2 - 70%-90% of the time, people will use the Ninja. In my opinion he's way too overpowered. It thus becomes important to find a decent technique to fighting these Ninja lovers. I can usually win with the Centurion, but hey, that's just me. Another important phrase to remember here: fight fire with fire. Also works well for me.

Good luck with this one.

It does not matter how many rounds you set your match up for. If you decide to create a game, it's up to you to choose how many rounds you'd like to play. For example, you create a game and set the rounds to 3. This only means you have to win two of the three rounds, or two of three kills, to win the actual match with the person your playing with. If you win, you'll then be returned to the main menu and must find or create a new game to advance to Semi-Finals, and then Finals. Just keep an eye on the game info to the left when joining a game. It will tell you what the host has set for the rounds and for the game time. You don't want to go rushing in thinking there are 3 rounds when there's actually only 1, as some like to play.

Does this answer your question?

FYI for everyone on rage-quitting.

If your in a Finals match and lose, you don't have to rage-quit to stay in the finals match if your that type of player. Wait until the screen appears where you would push "A" to continue, instead of pressing "A" back out to the dashboard. It still gives the win to the guy who won but you can go back to a finals match instead of having to win a couple of fights to get back to a Finals Match. It doesn't solve someone quitting on you but it does help that you don't have to do the same to someone else to stay in the finals match.

That's true, but it's not going to stop all the inconsiderate players from just backing out. Why go to the dashboard and take all that time when you can just return to the menu?

Say you win in a Finals match but the person leaves so you don't get the win. You have to refight that Finals match again to get a another win for it to count. Now when your refighting that Finals Match and say you end up losing the match, instead of rage-quitting so you can get directly back into the final round again, let the screen that tells you your battle rating and "press A to continue" appear so the player who beat you will get the win. Now, INSTEAD of pressing "A", back out to the dashboard from that screen and reload the your game. It does take a little bit of time but it's better than quitting on someone else because someone quit on you. If more people know about this method maybe they will start using this method to quit and there won't be so many people rage quitting.

People are just probably playing all the new arcade games right now, like Monday Night Combat and that boat racing game. Just give it some time... Hopefully people aren't done with the game already.

@TryDodgingThis

I believe they fixed this issue with an update... making my guide not so accurate anymore. But believe me, when this game first came out, this was a HUGE issue. This achievement was worth its weight in gold back then.

i still need help with this if anyone is still interested, i know another person with the game and i was thinking if we could set up a boosting session using B00ME's idea about going back to the Dash to avoid the loss but giving the other person the win, a couple of hours work and we could have a few people with 10 tourney wins.
if anyone is interested in this idea then contact me through XBOX. i would love to solve this issue, not just for myself, but for the people who also suffer with rage quitters.

In addition to the quitting, one hit kills can derail your tourney very quickly. As a spear thrower one can be pressing B before the match starts and rattle off a few quick wins.

im not contradicting but i had a couple of rage quitters and i found if they back out it counts as a loss because you can press start in fight and leave. This will bring a pop up and counts as a forfeight. I have had a few people rage quit on me and it still counts as a loss. What i find is the biggest problem is that noone plays tournement mode NO ONE PLAYS THE DAMNED THING D: i sit there for hours with noone wanting to play tournement mode :'( why does noone play this dark horse of a game :(

Credit for this solution does to Large Coffee.

A team of 5 boosters will work the best.
First rank somebody to the top 3rd round and the 2nd round there only job is to host matches and letting the other boosters win.

Using the dashboard trick after a loss will keep them at the same level in the round. (After a loss instead of pushing "A" to continue you exit to the dashboard and when you reload the game you stay at the same level)

So 1 person host matches in each of the 3 rounds, the 2nd and 3rd level hosts use the trick ( first round using the dashboard trick is pointless)

The other 2 go up the ladder getting wins and then rotate with the hosts after they receive the acheivment.

Only 4 people will cause a lot of waiting in the lobby's for the hosts and more than 2 going for the acheivment will cause a lot of waiting for reloading

How long does this take? I'm very interested in setting up a session sometime this week and want to make sure I provide enough time for everyone to unlock the achievement.

Maybe this will make more sense once my boosters and I dive into this. I'm assuming a tournament can start with an odd number? I'm trying to map out the brackets on some paper, but it's just not clicking with me.

everyone starts on 1st tier. 1 win moves you to 2nd tier win again for 3rd tier. so pair up 2 sets of 2 boosters. 1 in each set wins to move to 2nd tier then the two winners fight. the winner hosts the 3rd tier and the looser hosts the 2nd tier. then the other 3 players 1 hosts the 1st tier matches while the others move up the tiers for the acheivement. hope this helps

That does help some more - thank you. I'll just have to get a visualization as well when the others boosters and I start this. And, I'm sure you already answered this, so forgive me for being redundant, but what's your best approach for this? If you had a team of 8 together, could two boosters technically go for the achievement? Also, once one booster wins the tournament, should they go ahead and win the next 9 or would you continuously swap out winners? I'm thinking it's best just to have one person win 10 tournaments and then cycle to the next booster in line.

(Hope all of that made sense)

A team of any number will work you're just going to have a bunch of people waiting around while the hosts reload the game. To make it less confusing I'd recommend having people run through until they get the achievement. That way people aren't constantly changing the hosts also once someone gets their achievement then they take over hosting one of the tiers

Just to add, if you are doing this with more than 4 people, you should have the additional people continuously hosting the "Final" round. You will not have to have anyone wait if you have 2 or more people hosting the "Final" tier.

It may sound confusing but you need 4 people you take turns getting to the tournament finals how you do that is 2 people fight winner goes on to semis and waits for the winner between 2 of the other players then in the semis the person going for the trophy wins and goes on to the finals now when yoh lose it sends you back obviusly so players 2 and 3 fight to get to semis then players 3 and 4 fifht to the semis to fight player 2 who will win and face player 1 in the finals then player 1 wins the tournament and rinse and repeat.

For this trophy you need 2 tournament fight wins in a row to unlock the final, then win the final for it to count as a tournament win. If you lose a tournament fight, then you will need to start your 3 win streak over. This means you will need to win 30 matches, in sets of 3 in a row. The easiest way is to boost this since the online is so dead but if you want to get it the real way, refer to the tips in Whose Deadliest Now? If you want to boost this trophy, go to this thread here: Trophy Boosting Thread
