Easier than it sounds, though you'll need a weapon effective against BTs beforehand and may depend on the catcher type.
Wait until you get the blood grenades in Act 2, you'll get an order to trial them out in the field (not the firing range, although you might have to do the firing range test first).
Go to that area on the coast and complete the order first by using a grenade on a BT.
Now for the catcher - you'll want to deliberately get caught by a BT. Allow them to pull you down into the ground and they'll move you about a bit. The catcher will then spawn (I got the whale in this area).
Equip the grenade and climb onto a ledge so you are out of the black tar. Throwing the grenades you should now be able to take the catcher out quickly in a few hits.
They'll be a ton of crystals when it's defeated so be sure to pick those up!
