The new update made the game much easier. We now get way more money per wave and we can buy a lot more upgrades.
I recommend fully upgrading your base weapon first, Damage, Rate, Speed, Cartridges, and then you can focus on health, accuracy or whatever you want.

Complete 4th wave. Best to upgrade accuracy, and the basic weapons first. After that go for health regen, some armor, health.
