Just play through the storyline -- as you recruit artists, they will begin working on new songs, and once they complete the songs, put money into the releases. Once 6 songs are released, the achievement will pop.
I kept my artists happy (paying their bills and fighting their fights) so I would recommend doing that, though I'm not sure if failing to do so will actually prevent songs from being released.

While progressing through Build a Label, you will keep gaining artists, and they will keep sending you songs to release. It doesn't matter how much money you invest, but so long as you release 6 songs, you will get the achievement.
