I got this by accident while playing with the following settings:
Map: Out Of Fuel
Mode: Poison Core
I was following a youtube video guide (below) for this achievement:
The Nail Biter achievement in Defense Grid: The Awakening worth 29 pointsWin mission with the last core less than 10 seconds away from the map exit.
Place towers as suggested in the video -- three level 2 guns at the top, and one level 3 gun in the middle just below the first three. The fifth tower can be placed if you like, but I got this achievement long before it was even needed.
