This achievement is story related, can't (normally) be missed. Create your character and view the cutscenes, then simply complete the few things EGO has you do, find a shield, get the shotgun, pick up grenades and then pick a skill. Then go help Cass defend a battery of some sort.
If your game crashes during the tutorial, there's a chance that the game will automatically advance you through it, which will NOT grant you the achievement. You'll have to create a new character to unlock this.

Would not say it can't be missed...I started the game and with the server issues lost connection...when I came back it progressed me passed the tutorial.

Same thing happened to me, had to create another character just to get this achievement.
