To unlock Pursuit of Excellence you must complete twenty pursuits within the game.
Pursuits are a mini collection of goals and challenges. They usually consist of 4-5 goals each. To complete a pursuit, all goals within that pursuit must be completed. You will see a tick next to every goal you have completed. When you complete all goals within a pursuit, every goal will be greyed out and the pursuit will be registered as completed.
You can see how many pursuits you have completed. At the top, it will say Season One (X/107), where X is the number you have currently completed.
There are 107 pursuits within the game currently, some taking minutes, some taking thousands of hours. Luckily for this achievement, you just need any twenty.
To view your pursuits, press START. On the character screen, hold down LT, and select GOALS (at the 1 o Clock position). Here you can see all pursuits divided into categories.
For those wishing to knock these out fast, below is a list of easy pursuits that can all be completed in ACT1 with little/no trouble. Then, as you progress into ACT2, hitting twenty should be no trouble.
Browse the list, and see what you find easiest. For some of the combat ones, these require respecing your EGO points.

I think i'm gonna accidentally get this one, almost at 20 and have not purposely gone for anything. I'm only on Act 3 but have done lots of Arkfalls and side quests.

This solution has some great suggestions for easy pursuits but with the episodic content that has been added into the game this achievement should come pretty naturally. I have not gone after any specific pursuits yet and have completed 30 pursuits so far.

If you press

and go to Goals, you’ll be able to see all the pursuits the game has to offer at the moment. You’ll need to complete 20 pursuits in total, in the Bay Area. The Bay Area is the entire world in Defiance.
Most of these will come by normal play, so don’t worry about it. It’s wise to check out all the pursuits at least once, to have a general idea of what these pursuits are all about. Also, check every now and then to see which ones are almost complete. These will help you out greatly with EGO Rating.

Pursuits are a collection of goals and challenges to complete by doing various activities like using EGO powers, killing, driving, completing quests, exploring, etc. There are currently 104 in Season One plus Episode pursuits that are available for a week (coincide with the TV show). Completing 20 should com naturally by playing the game. To access pursuits, bring up the Start menu, hold down 
, and choose Goals in the 1/2 o'clock position.
