How to unlock the The Lion's Claw achievement in Defiance Free to Play - Definitive Guide

This is what needs to be done for this achievement:
Complete 25 daily contracts for the Chimera = as of May 14th you now need to be Ego 5000 just to do expert or have a friend host a group that's Ego 5000 to do dailys.
Reach Reliable status with the Chimera = 300 Rep
Buy 10 items from Chimera vendors = 100 Rep, and 10,000 Scrip to complete this one.
Cores are not needed Thanks to RPG Master 1985 for confirming that Arkforges count. And the Chimera Vendor can be found at the Headlands Transit Depot Fast Travel stop.

Yeah, but the thing is. 4500 ego isn't low. Yet they need a friend to coop. I'm not excited to grind out 2500 ego for 15 dailies. But, I don't have any 5000 ego friends and no one in clan/zone offers to help when I ask (not that I blame them) so I have zero say in the matter. I understand why they have a cap, but pretending everything below 4996 ego is dead weight in an expert coop map is just stupid as fuck.

Cores clearly count. Nothing can be purchased without them.

Scroll to the bottom of the list Arkforge does not need cores to be purchased and count as items.

Cores are not needed. You can definitely buy ark forge for the 10 items requirement.

I have bought 10 of the arkforge things at the bottom of the vendor list and they counted for the pursuit. I have 10/25, missed 2 dailies when it was 101. People top of comments are calling it 100 lol. Anyways, you need 300 rep to reach reliable and 25 dailies at 10 rep each is only 250/300 rep so we will need to do 5 extra dailies

Motherload is easy just make sure when the smaller enemies spawn during the boss you focus on them. Same goes for Liberate the lost. Soleptor, on the other hand, is pure ass. Finally got it done today and never doing it again even if its a daily.

Well apparently it is scheduled for 14/05/14 (which is today) at 5pm GMT (10am PST) and as the next daily doesn't go live until 8pm you may be screwed. I only needed three more myself so this is just a big FU from Trion to anyone that hasn't spent 500+ hours on this awful game.

Wow, that is some Grade A cow shit.

Yup, I've done 27 dailies now (of the 30 needed) and I'm going to need to put in 50+ hours work (probably more) to get to level 5k just to be able to do THREE more daily challenges. What a joke.

I can't imagine why else they would put a level restriction on the expert maps other than gauging competence with a faulty metric. At EGO 3500 I can compete with the big boys at 5000+ easily, as every expert map I've completed I have always finished with similar stats to them (and in nearly every case, tons more kills).

Yep I'm 3500 myself too and I have no problem with the expert maps. I've done a few with jackanape too. but yeah its BS. They're technically changing how/when you can pop this achievement and isn't there rules for that shit by MS to devs...

If you're on at the time the patch hits then you can get another daily. You're not forced to download it until you're logging into the game. I've done it a few times. I won't work if they take down the servers just before the patch goes live though.

They are taking down the servers for 2.5 hours at 5pm today - apparently. So the patch will be forced on us before I can do anymore dailies. I've done pretty much EVERY pursuit bar some of the PVP ones too, so the thought of grinding out 900 EGO levels of XP is not an appealing one.

It's almost like Trion is trying to purposely drive away anyone who's sticking around on the game.

If you have a friend who is 5k then he can invite you in! I found that out earlier when I was in Zone Chat.

the reason for the 5000 ego req. is because low ego characters would join expert coops and then just hide and stand back while the rest of the group struggled to finish the map.Not real fun if your the one trying to finish it when there is a group of 4 but only 2 or 3 of you are doing anything.

^Most people are on US of A servers. Even most Europeans who actually try to stay competitive switched over. Third world countries and whatnot.

Once you hit level 1000 ego send me a msg. I am a member of the free masons and will recruit you in. Only condition is once your a member, you stay a member. Do not join get the level 10 achievements and leave or you will tarnish my credibility and ruin recruiting chances for other members getting in the clan. I want to help the community but 1 person could ruin it for everyone.

^once your a member everyone helps, all you have to do is say you need chimera daily and a bunch of people will offer to help. Same with anything else in the game. Great clan.

From my time doing Chimera with Freemasons, actually getting people to help you if you're under 5k is a crap shoot. You need a 5k EGO to host the group and those guys are almost always disinclined to do the dailies without other 5ks, even though every person they take with them has all their stats scaled up to match. In a pinch they'll always take the higher EGOs first so you're still going to have trouble getting them done if you're not 3k+.

It's the belief of many people that if you're not 5k then you do not deserve to do Chimera dailies, almost exclusively because of the Arkforge you get for completing the map. Prepare for abuse if you announce you want to do Chimera dailies, because if you're under 5k you need one to volunteer and you'll quickly find out how elitist people get at that level.

^Not sure who Mobius asked but that's simply not the case. The dedicated core of FreeMasons are always willing to do the Chimera AGAIN after they may have already completed it.

I was in the FREEMASON clan and I received plenty of hostility, sneering, and just plain being ignored by clanmates when I asked in clan chat for a 5K host. What I ultimately ended up doing to get this done was grinding myself up to 5k from 3800-ish so I could host the thing my damned self, then suddenly everyone was on board to complete Chimera dailies.

There are a small number of Freemasons who are genuinely happy to help multiple groups per day but a majority of them seem to think the 5K barrier is an entry to an ivory tower or something.

This solution needs to be updated. It now only takes 10 rep for the cheapest item for Chimera. It's for arkforge.

Just an FYI for this one - Trion are releasing a patch today/tomorrow that will make it so you HAVE to be 5000 EGO to be able to play the expert co-op maps. Thus screwing anyone below that level of the chance to get this achievement - at least until you grind your way up to 5K EGO.

Hopefully they make rep available by other means but time will tell.

It's great that you know a huge timesaving glitch Achvment Freak, but it's no help whatsoever if you're just going to say you know about it and not tell us what is. Fortunately, I've discovered/been shown what you're talking about and I'm actually going to tell everyone what it is.

The central point of the glitch is the Decoy power, and using it you can bypass nearly every barrier over the course of the map. Run directly into any barrier that would normally open later, and use the decoy power when your face is pressed firmly against it. Use the power again and you switch places with the decoy, bypassing the firefight and the barrier. Each map ends up taking about 15 minutes since you can run past all the ankle biters and go directly to the boss.

This works on the forcefields of Island of Lost Soldiers, the bulkhead doors of Soleptor Excavation, getting past the hulker trigger on Explosions 101 without fighting them, etc. The game's populace calls this "speed running" so make sure you specify that when calling for players to do it with you.

The "The Lion's Claw II" pursuit has the following requirements:

  • Complete 25 daily contracts for the Chimera
  • Reach Reliable status with the Chimera
  • Buy 10 items from Chimera vendors

Do the following to earn this achievement:

  • The daily Chimera contracts task you with completing the different co-op maps on Expert. In addition to 10 Chimera rep, you'll also receive Caeruleum Cores for completing these daily contracts. Finish 25 contracts. See the "The Unbreakable Horn" achievement for more details on expert co-op maps.
  • Reach 300 rep with Chimera faction. The only way to earn rep with Chimera is to complete contracts, and unlike all the other factions, there are no weekly contracts, only daily contracts. This will take a minimum of 30 days. If you're in a clan, that could be cut down to 28 or 29 days if the clan has rep boosts active. You can also buy rep boosts for Bits (real money) if you want, but it's not really worth it. You can track your rep on the contracts screen. Just remember that it only displays the amount of unspent rep, so if you use some to buy an item, be sure to factor that into your total rep.
  • The Chimera vendor is located at Headlands Transit Depot. All the items there are expensive, requiring a combination of rep, scrip, and Caeruleum Cores to purchase. Fortunately, you can purchase a single unit of Arkforge for 10 rep and 1000 scrip. So just buy ten of those and call it a day.
