How to unlock the The Snake's Bite achievement in Defiance Free to Play - Definitive Guide

Gonna add locations for the enemies. Obviously as most everyone knows you need at least 4 or 5 high level players in the area to take it to threat level 10 and spawn the apex/formidable/ark variants.

Edit: Tweaked slightly with a couple additional tips from Jackanape.

Scrapper Omnivolts - just run Scrapworks Salvage on Expert. You'll get tons of these. You can also do scrapper major arkfalls, but you have to get to the bonus waves on the small crystals and be at threat level 10, so running the co op map is easiest

Volge Viscera - Either the incursion/siege that ends at the quarry (the one southish of Ken's farm, I'll nail down more specific location later) or the siege in San Fran that ends at the Bathhouse. Also the Major Ark Impacts that you have to place 4 batteries at, run the outside area after the initial waves of enemies, when the volge show up.

Mutant Minigunners - Whenever you see a Major Ark Impact go place the 4 batteries and see if mutants come. If they do, recruit some high level friends/clan members to come down and bump it up to threat level 10. You'll get lots of the big blue bastards during the outside area before the volge show up. Also the Incursion at Mt Tam that ends at the academy is good for these (if it shows up). Lastly there are 5 in Liberate the Lost on Expert.

Raider Tanker - If you can get a minor arkfall where it says to destroy the crystal with raiders, just get it to threat level 10 and keep farming the raiders rather than destroying the crystal and you'll get lots of Tankers. Also like the Mutant Minigunners, the Major Ark Impacts may have these (the outside area is either Mutants, Raiders, or Dark Matter before the Volge show up).

Hellbug Monarch - Do the Sausalito incursion and at the end/siege phase you'll get 4 Monarchs every other wave. Most of the high level experienced players tend to congregate around the gate area, so try to pull the Monarchs up to that area and they'll go down fast.

Infected Hulker - the Formidable Hulkers at the Kenn's Farm seige, or the incursion that ends at Kenn's Farm, will count as long as it is at threat level 10. The key here is to make sure everyone is attacking the hulkers and ignoring all the smaller enemies. Two hulkers will spawn on waves 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, etc. They tend to spawn around the half-way point of these waves unless people are killing too many small enemies, in which case they may spawn at the very end leaving no chance to kill them. Your best bet is to go to this siege and congregate on the road that leads away from Kenn's Farm (the road that runs between the small house and the big barn). I'll give more specific info later, but most of the experienced players already know where to congregate on this road, so just look for the giant gaggle of players and stay there. Make sure to target whichever hulker has the least health so that you're working with the majority of the players. A good group can kill both hulkers before the wave ends.

Darkmatter Bullwark - The Commander Cronkite co op map spawns 4 of these at the boss fight on expert, and you can lure them back up the tunnel to fight them. Alternatively if you go to Darkmatter Major Arkfalls you can get them during the small crystal portions if it gets to the bonus waves and there are enough players in the area killing everything fast at threat level 10. Finally, like the Mutant Minigunners and Raider Tankers, the Major Ark Impacts may have these (the outside area is either Mutants, Raiders, or Dark Matter before the Volge show up).

99er Goldrusher - Motherlode co-op map on Expert. Jackanape said he got 14/15 in one run.

Some good spots:

Goldrushers - just do the Motherlode co-op map on Expert (have to anyway for the other pursuit) as I got 14/15 of them in just one run through that map.

Minigunners - if you get the incursion/siege in Mt Tam (that ends at the academy) then loads of minigunners should spawn there. Though I haven't seen this event turn up in a while. Plus they nerfed the threat level in Mt Tam for newbies so not sure if they will be high enough level. Failing that you can get a group of four high level players and hit up the radio towers here for some minigunners.

Bulwarks/Tankers - can use the same method that you posted for minigunners. As if you don't get mutants at a Major Arkfall site you will get either Raiders (for the Tanker) or Dark Matter (for the Bulwarks) and you can knock out a bunch of these at once.

Volge - ANY of the sieges that they turn up at (North Point Mine, Serenity, Bathhouse) though they only appear on certain waves and take a LOT of punishment. Best method is Major Arkfalls again as you HAVE to kill them (assuming they spawn) to get inside and, once in, another two are guaranteed to spawn.

Infect Hulkers - Kenn farm is practically impossible to get due to the wave ending after X number of kills...after some research there seems like there will be a patch on/around June 4th 2014 - Hope this info helps that came from a community team member

---------------------------------
Regarding Infected Hulkers and the Snake Bite Pursuit
Ark hunters,

We've been hearing your concerns about the irritation of trying to burn down an Infected Hulker in Kenn Farm before the stage ends and they despawn, preventing completion of the Snake Bite pursuit. If it isn't obvious, we don't want to make it impossible to complete said pursuit. Here's what's up for those unaware of this issue.

Currently, the required number of monster kills to pass a stage can't adjust based on the scaling mechanic introduced with Arktech Revolution which is (situationally) doubling the number of monsters. This means that, as you've probably experienced, sufficient mobs are killed to advance the stage before all monsters are killed. Since the other monsters that spawn in Kenn Farm are all easier to kill, downing an Infected Hulker is very difficult to pull off. There's also a typo in the Snake Bite pursuit that targets Apex Infected Hulkers when Formidable Infected Hulkers are actually required, but this is only a typo and downing Formidable ones works just fine.

We're working on a change to how these siege events progress through stages. Instead of a minimum required number of monster kills, each stage will only advance when all monsters in that wave are killed. This will definitely prevent the Infected Hulkers from despawning before you and your fellow ark hunters can take them down. (We'll also fix the typo in the pursuit.) The window for this adjustment is our next major game client patch on June 4.

Thanks for your patience while we address this frustrating issue!

Major arkfalls are a great place to get Scrapper Omnivolts. All I did was sit just outside the circle and put a single sniper shot into every Omnivolt I saw. I got 11 in one arkfall and was only present at 2 of the small events and the Progenitor, so I'm sure catching one from the start will finish all 15 kills in one arkfall.

For Ark Viscera, I liked camping the ambient event spawn just outside of Iron Demon Ranch. The events Volge Await and Volge at E-Rep Camp spawn two Viscera each that must be killed to complete the event, so there's no danger of them disappearing on you. The best part about this area is that it's high traffic and there are a ton of people camping around, so if they're not willing to bump up the threat to level 10 from the get-go you can simply kite the enemies into the ranch and they'll get involved pretty fast.

Liberate The Lost expert has at least seven Biomen minigunners/grenadiers in it, and the Piercer counts as well. There are some off the beaten path, so you'll either have to ask or force the other people to fight the extra ones (because they sit out of visual range and don't attack unless you aggro them).

Great guide and also first comment are both very helpful.

Some further help:

Minigunners - you can get a guaranteed five of these by running the Liberate the Lost co-op map on Expert (mix of gunners/grenadiers).

Monarchs - Danger at Diablo event has a guaranteed Monarach at the end, plus there are lots of "Kill the Monarch" emergencies IF you have a high level group to get the threat level up. Better methods are to hit up the Hellbug Hive Mutation major arkfall (guaranteed two monarchs before the final stage) and the Island of Lost Soldiers co-op map on expert.

Mount Tam incursions don't even show up anymore. All I ever see is the one that ends in Diablo, and the other at Kenn farm.

Another thing I noticed was that Hellbug related arkfalls don't bring Apex Monarchs, all I've ever seen is Adapted. I'm at threat level 10, there's dozens of people around. Seems to be yet another bug. Easier to do them at Diablo, it's the only place they spawn reliably.

I got my first 4 apex monarchs at arkfalls. Its probably just a new bug related to the patch.

I got most of my monarchs at a mature hellion major arkfall. There are 3 Goldrushers on Liberate the lost when you go down the dead end for the clicky objective.

Yeah, for Goldrushers you should just do ALL the co-op maps on expert as you will get enough of them from the Motherlode and Lost Soldier maps to be done. There are two monarchs on Lost Soldiers too - but the best way is the siege/incursion that ends at Diablo. I got about 6/7 of them every time that event popped up so it took netx to no time.

Mt Tam incursion does seem to have been axed to so best way for minigunners is to go to Major Arkfalls. If mutants show up (and you get a threat level of 10) then run around and tag EVERY grenadier and minigunner you can. You can get 10+ of them easily that way.

Only real grind is Hulkers as there are that many people at Kenn Farm on the EU servers that even getting 1 is impossible at the moment.

yeah the hulker's are the worst. It's not impossible but really hard because not everyone shoots at them they all shoot the little things (cant remember the name)
apart from going on the American server only thing i can think of is wait till people understand like how to kill the warmaster.
If anyone knows where to find the hulker's else where that'll count for the pursuit please tell us.

Omnivolts spawn on waves 3, 4, and 5 in scrapper major arkfalls, not just wave 5. At least, in the major arkfall I just finished. Maybe that's not always the case, but it's an easier way for people like me who generally play solo.

Goldrusher can also be farmed in union depot, northeast of top-notch toolworks with 4 ppl. as sson as you finish the "mission" head back to the street and the mission will reset and you can go in there again instantly!

Hulkers are damn near impossible to kill. I'm stuck on 16/25 and Kenn farm is a joke, the Hulkers despawn with 95% health left.

It's probably harder on EU server. Most of the time on US server we kill at least 4 or 5 hulkers per incursion b/c everyone congregates at the road spawn that leads out of Kenn's farm and just ignores all the small enemies during the hulker waves to wait for them to spawn. When I was doing it I frequently saw both hulkers die in the same wave.

Yeah everyone just kills the add on the EU server. We all know what to do but the majority don't give a fuck.

Yeah I read about that. It's still annoying though, it they bothered to actually bug test it they would see the problems before they caused any trouble for anyone. They have a beta for defiance but they don't listen to bug reports from players, someone from the forum was mentioning that the aforementioned problem existed before it was released, and Trion did nothing.

In any case, I'll be finishing the game when its released and I cannot wait!

Surprise surprise, the June 4th patch has done fuck all in the way of fixing this hulker problem.
I have killed everything else but still stand at 0/25 infected hulker kills - seriously how difficult is it to fix???

Um you need to kill hulkers at kenn farm for this. I got it an hour after the servers came back on.

you need to be at Kenn farm and kill them there whilst the threat level is 10. I got about 6 every time Kenn farm was on. Just stand in the centre between all 3 points and attack the hulker with the lowest health.

Yeah, the June 4 patch doesn't despawn all the active enemies when waves end so the hulkers pretty much have to die now. I've been doing the same thing I did for Apex Monarchs -- camp just inside the yellow siege circle and snipe the enemy a couple times to get credit for it before it dies.

***Update*** Kenn Farm Hulkers no longer disappear. The stage won't progress till all enemies are dead. Thanks for actually fixing something for once Trion.

They could have made it much easier to make all formidable hulkers count, such as the ones you run into in Soleptor and Explosions 101. The infected hulkers are the only enemy to spawn at exactly one place and needing so many of them wasn't terribly nice either.

Also, it seems as though each 1000 EGO equals one threat level (starting at 500). As a 3500-4500 I was a threat 4 all by myself, but the moment I turned 4505 I was a walking level 5 threat. Between myself and my 4300 buddy, we were turning roadside Volge emergencies threat 9 and spawning Ark Viscera all by ourselves. For larger emergencies like arkfalls and sieges it seems as though your threat level is cut in half. If I go to a minor arkfall alone, it's only a level 2 threat; once my friend joins me, it goes level 5.

Just to add, I did gold rushers at Port Stinson which takes about 8 minutes to complete and generates between 2-6 gold rushers a pop. Was much easier than doing the expert map and more reliable. Plus, to restart all you and your group have to do is go out of the threat zone at the end of the mission and go back in to restart it.

"The Snake's Bite II" pursuit requires you to kill many enemies that only spawn when at Threat Level 9 or 10. If you're low-level EGO, you probably won't encounter these on your own, so go to more populated events, like Arkfalls, Incursions, or Sieges. Thankfully, you do not need to get the kill-shot on these enemies for them to count; they simply need to be killed after you've already shot them.

Here's a list of the enemies, and where to locate them:

  • 25 "Apex" level Hellbug Monarchs - The Sausalito incursion ends at Diablo, where Monarchs spawn quite frequently.
  • 15 "Apex" level Scrapper Omnivolts - The smaller Arkfalls within large Scrapper Arkfalls are good for these, as well as the Scrapworks Salvage co-op map on Expert.
  • 25 "Apex" level Infected Hulkers - These can be found at the end siege of the Madera incursion, which is at Kenn Farm, or at the regular Kenn Farm Siege. Hulkers appear every few waves. When they do, focus fire on them to kill them before the wave ends.
  • 25 "Formidable" level Mutant Minigunners or Grenadiers - Place ark spikes at a Major Impact Site to call down a Major Arkbreak, and hope you get mutants. Tons of both these enemies will spawn in time.
  • 15 "Formidable" level Raider Tankers - You can find these inside Soleptor Excavation co-op map on Expert.
  • 15 "Formidable" level Dark Matter Bulwarks - The smaller Arkfalls within large Dark Matter Arkfalls are good places to find Bulwarks. They also appear in the Scrapworks Salvage and Commander Cronkite co-op maps on Expert.
  • 25 "Ark" level Volge Viscera - These can be found seemingly everywhere: the end siege of the Marin incursion; inside Major and Minor Arkbreaks, and at Volge sieges at the quarry and bath house.
  • 15 "Ark" level 99er Goldrushers - These can be found on The Motherlode co-op map on Expert.

Most of these enemies can be found other places, but these are some of the areas where you'll find them in more concentrated numbers.
