How to unlock the Vehicular Manslaughter achievement in Defiance Free to Play - Definitive Guide

UPDATE: With this game becoming more broken each update, this achievement is very hard to pull off with the ATVs in normal gameplay. Your best bet is to find a friend in Shadow War and boost the achievement.

This of course has to be done in some form of PVP in the game because you have to roadkill 25 human players for this achievement. Either playing Capture in competitive matchmaking or queuing up for for a Shadow War needs to be done because they are the only modes with vehicles.

Personally I found Shadow War the fastest way to acquire this achievement. Spawn at a point that's close to an enemy team capture point. Press UP on the D-pad (just in case, you don't know for some reason) and drive around until you flatten 25 other players. I got about 3-5 road kills per match sometimes because Shadow War seems to end fairly quick. Just keep at it and capture points along the way for another achievement (50 captures).

Hitting someone at full speed while boosting should be enough to kill someone, but there have been several times I got most but not all of an enemies health down. It's safe to drive around the corner before turning around and going for another ram because you are pretty exposed while on the Quad and you can be killed pretty quickly. Try for surprise kills such as boosting into someone running toward a capture point or giving a sniper a 4-wheeled rectal exam (wouldn't you normally be the one with the scope? /rimshot).

It will take several matches (unless you are really good or lucky) to get the 25 kills, but the achievement does not seem to take very long at all and can be a good bit of fun flying through a base and getting a double splatter!

There is another vehicle in matchmaking called the Cerberus. It spawns at your base in Capture and Hold matches and in Shadow War. It is a large 3-seater truck and it's size makes good people pancakes if you can catch it when it spawns. There are not many of them during matches so grab it as soon as everything starts to get your hands on it. (Thanks to Felix Pie for pointing that out)

I'm going to give a downvote simply because the information in this solution is now outdated to the point of being wrong. With the big buff to shields, the addition of armor plates, and the buff to hit points and their rate of recovery that came with the Arktech Revolution DLC (and the nerf to vehicle damage that happened somewhere along the way) it is now 100% impossible to roadkill someone who is not cooperating with you.

To get a roadkill these days, you absolutely have to boost it. The targets need to have no shield equipped, and someone else on the roadkiller's team has to whittle down their health to about 15% with a BMG before the guy in the vehicle can successfully roadkill them. If the target's health is 20% or greater, they will survive the hit and regenerate enough health to withstand another hit by the time the driver backs up and boosts forward to attempt the roadkill again.

Freight Yard, being an enclosed PvP map, means that the randoms will find you. The moment they do, they will keep coming back over and over again because there is not a try-hard on the planet who will not return for a load of easy kills on unshielded enemies standing perfectly still. Shadow War is the best way to get the roadkills done by a long shot because you can go hide far away from the control points and be left alone. Over 5 Freight Yard matches, my group got a total of 15 roadkills done for everybody between bouts with randoms, but got all the roadkills done for everybody in 1.5 hours in Shadow War hiding somewhere 300+ meters from the nearest control point.

Great guide. Thats exactly what I did. I would add that the bigger vehicles(like the one with the turret) are more durable and do more damage and they are twice as wide. I found it easier to get kill with them.

nice note about the turret vehicle Felix. does anyone know how someone can access that vehicle? there was a daily contract for getting 10 turret kills the other day and couldn't find out how to get to this vehicle.

I see that the info I asked for was added to the solution. Thanks for that!

Got this today. I found that cruising slow around a capture point was the best way. Then when you get someone in your sights just line it up and hit turbo to crush them.

Great guide....using Cerebus vehicle in Freight Yard and crusing around the track could yield 3-4 kills per match.

Even the Cerberus isn't worth trying anymore. I finally found one and was pretty quickly killed in it. The top players' weapons are outrageously overpowered.

As Mobius Evalon said, boost in Shadow Wars (not the PvP specific maps; the Shadow Wars that occur in the regular Bay Area map). You will NEVER get this achievement otherwise.

Going to throw this out there for anyone still needing to boost this (and possibly for a solution update).

Worked on Freight Yard with a friend. The "victim" stays at the bottom of the cliff (his starting position). The driver goes along the path with the jump (broken bridge?). The victim drops a basic shrill grenade (non-colored else it kills too fast) before the driver hit him. Victims life should be down to 5-15% before vehicle impact. *I would drop mine as soon as the driver clears the jump. If initial impact doesn't kill, victim backs up so driver can gas and nitro it in again.

Do this 5 times each (with max grenades), then pick up any spares, rinse/repeat.
There is a learning curve to getting this just right, and avoiding the enemy team and spawn point killers from messing this up. Communication is key. Be patient as this will take several games to get.
**Always buy back up to full grenades after each game.

I should have this by now, but not sure why not. Currently, Cerberus kills show 12, but I have at least that many and more with ATV. Will update when I can complete this out.

I hope this helps anyone still struggling.

Its practically impossible to do these now, however if you and your boosting friend has a detonator with fire or radiation on it, you can shoot yourself and burn or irradiet yourself till near death and then you friend should hit you and get the kill. Otherwise it's practically impossible, your regeneration it's to fast even at low EGO, even if you take your shield off. So, I hope it helps.

I did get this a little while ago (using my method on my comment above). The problem was my boosting partner had a purple shrill grenade, so when his health was low, i would hit him, but the last damage he took was from his own grenade. I got credit for the kill onscreen by vehicle, but it did not count towards the 25.
My (basic/white) shrill grenade would never kill me, but would bring me down low enough to where one to 2 hits would kill me. I would have to drop it as soon as he cleared the jump on Freightyard. "Burn" damage would be done by the time he got to me.
ATV and Cerberus both work for the kills (achievement unlock for an ATV), though you can only "track" run over kills on the Cerberus (under the driving pursuits).

It will still take time to do, and "teammates" killing your boosting partner before you gets frustrating...

I hope this helps anyone else struggling.

Dude! Where's My Cerberus? (DLC-5 UPDATE!!!)

DLC-5 has changed Defiance completely and unfortunately that applied to MP as well. Everyone's shields got a big boost in strength and they also got armor on top of that. This means that is is hard as hell to kill someone by ramming them with a vehicle. There are some things you can do to make it easier:

- Unlock and fully upgrade the "Hell of Wheels" perk.
- Max out vehicle skill.
- Use the Cerberus.
- Cerberus is in Shadow War or Freight Yard (Easy to find in Freight Yard)
External image

One of the downsides to the Cerberus is that it takes damage every time you hit someone with it. This damage can be fixed by exiting the vehicle and then quickly re-entering it.

Now, even having done all of this, it is still going to be REALLY hard to kill people with their souped up perks and gear. This means that you are going to have to boost this with friends. Boosting this game is hit and miss because you'll never be guaranteed to get a game lobby to yourself. With the game going free-to-play mid July 2014 I would imagine it is only going to get harder.

If you do mange to get into a decent boosting situation. You are going to want to knock the other players armor and shields off before you run them over. This will almost guarantee a kill when you hit them while boosting the engine. Bio weapons knock off armor pretty fast if you want to use those.

How do we get into the same match if we aren't in a group? Glad you asked.

To get into the same match you will both have to be on the same sever. Just "friend" the other player and then "go to" them in the menu. Once you do that you will be on the same server. Then you can both search for Freight Yard and end up in the same game.

The Hell on Wheels perk made a huge difference. I was lucky to get 2-3 a match without it. With it I was getting 5-7 per match and very quickly earned this cheevo. Thanks for pointing out the obvious that I overlooked. +1

Its so hard to even get into Freight Yard matches to use Cerberus. But when you do get in, this vehicle definitely makes it alot easier.

This doesn't work anymore. I can't even take 1/4 of my girlfriend's shields when I boost into her with the cerebrus. They must have increased everyone's shields/health while I was gone. This is going to be nigh impossible without boosting.

DLC V changed the game completely. I've left my solutions as is hoping they'll roll back some of the "mistakes" they've made.

In one of the recent updates, players are able to simply remove their shield from the slot and not have one equipped. Without doing that, it is impossible to kill someone by running them over any more.

It is almost impossible to get this cheevo. We made a 2nd account ego 20 and nothing equipped. Boosting in this charachter makes nearly no damage... not to mention how impossible it is to get to the target without loosing your cerberus a billion times or trying to get rid of these turrent junkies... without a full session of ppl working together this cheevo gets the most fckd up award...

done this today with boosting partner...matchmaking shadow war..meet up with partner at an area near the spawn of the person getting killed, kinda out the way of all the fighting..person getting killed shoots himself with a weapon that reduces his shield the final killing blow has to be with other person hitting him with vehicle..we did this easily in just over a hour..i had 12 kills then 13 kills with time to spare...just msg your partner a rough co-ordinate of where you are...eg...150 on a big flat area from A

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

Needs to be done in Player versus Player (PvP). To run over players, you’ll need vehicles. Vehicles can be found in the Freight Yard map and in Shadow War. You can either use the Cerberus (heavy armored vehicle) or a Hannibal (quad) to run over people. While the Cerberus seems the better choice, if you start a Shadow War, you can spawn a Hannibal wherever you are. And since you're out in the open, it shouldn't be too difficult to run over people. Especially when they're at a capture point. Just make sure to hit them full on at full speed (use your boost, ).

To increase the durability of your vehicle and to increase the collision damage, you can equip the “Hell on Wheels” perk (2nd on the right of the Decoy power).

To start a PvP match, press and go to matchmaking. Select Competitive Maps/Shadow War and choose a map or quick match. Alternatively, you can press , hold , go to matchmaking and use to open the Competitive/Shadow War tab. There’s no lobby system, you’ll queue up instead and can keep playing the game.

This is unlocked by running over 25 players in Shadow War. Just look for enemies running around and make sure to hold down boost when you run into them. If they don't die, quickly turn around and run them over again.
A nice little tactic is to try and get a few bullets into them beforehand. Then quickly press , jump into/on your vehicle and run them over. Hopefully this will eliminate the process of having to turn around if they didn't die the first time.

This trophy is done in the Capture & Hold (FreightYard map) or Shadow war modes, since there are large maps and the ability to move on vehicles is given.

You need to do 25 "Road Kills". You are unlikely to kill a player with one hit if he has a full supply of health and his shields are not knocked down. I advise you to purchase the “Wrecking ball” skill in the Ego-improvement section (EGO Grid) and pump it up to the maximum, this will give +45% damage to the enemy’s vehicle, and you can knock him down when he is also on the vehicle from the 1st hit.

trophy for luck -) in general, everything is described correctly except for the skill - you need the skill "Hell on Wheels" (and the skill "Wrecking Ball" increases damage against vehicles)

I liked the FreightYard map. There is a car (Jeep) Cerberus....
It's easy to push people around. I get 2-3 kills with the machine in one game (it’s not hard to count how many games you need to play on this map). this jeep crushes people, removing a lot of armor and a little bit of health and, most importantly, knocks the enemy down, all you have to do is roll back a couple of meters and run into the lying dude again, bam and kill with the car....
The secret is simple: we always sleep at the very beginning, if the jeep is busy, then we combine our game with a trophy for 50 goals, this map is also suitable for camper outings. You can also combine it with a trophy where you need to win 10 times on the FreightYard map...

Since the enemy flies away quite a long distance during a collision, there is no need to move away. This way you only give him a chance to dodge your next attack. So as soon as you shoot down the enemy, crush the lying body. The easiest way to get the trophy now: Launch Freight Yard, spawn on the map as quickly as possible, get into the Cerberus and ride around the map, running into everything that looks like an enemy, not forgetting to connect nitro before the collision. Don't be upset if you lose, because the main thing is to make as many Road Kills as possible. Took the trophy in just 3 games, averaging 7 kills per game.

Problems arose here - even with a boost and without armor, it was not possible to kill the enemy, because... health regenerated quickly, and the motorized bike crashed even faster.

I found the following solution.

We select Shadow War and agree on a collection point somewhere away from the capture points, but not too far (the coordinates will help you). The one who fills the kills must have an infector. First, we shoot from the infector until a bubble appears (three or four shots), and then we finish it off with acceleration. Thus, health is not regenerated (and even gradually decreases).

In this situation, there will only be one random chance left: getting into different teams. If you hit one, then leave and come back again, maybe it will scatter in different places.

You can remove some of your health with any weapon (not necessarily an infector), but weapons with any nanoeffect are more useful (regeneration is slowed down at the same time)... and in general the idea is correct. After you take down some of your health, one hit will be enough to make a kill. It is important to remove the armor from the equipment for those who will be crushed.

In general, I advise you to make the trophy a boost, because it is the most dreary of all. And I also want to draw your attention: the higher the ego rank of the players (who will be in the game with you), the higher the regeneration of your health will be. So, for example, if there are players in the game with an ego level above 5000... health regeneration will be atomic and it is generally not possible to crush it with technology until you knock down most of the health with some kind of weapon... take this into account when entering the game. The maximum ego level of all playing players is displayed in the upper left corner (bright yellow).
