How to unlock the Widely Regarded achievement in Defiance Free to Play - Definitive Guide
For the four main factions you must progress to the maximum reputation within each faction by doing Daily and Weekly Contracts. You do NOT have to increase your reputation with Paradise Territory, just with the 4 mentioned in the achievement description. The maximum reputation is trusted status which requires 600 earned rep.
Don't worry about buying weapons and stuff at the Faction vendors. It has been confirmed that the achievement pops when you reach Trusted status with all four factions, regardless of if you have over 600 rep with them or not, as the achievement is tied to the faction status not the reputation totals. The game 'remembers' rep you've earned, so once you've earned 600 rep with a faction you will reach Trusted, even if you have spent some of that rep along the way.
To find what contracts you can do, hit Start, Hold Lt, go to the top right of the wheel to Goals, then tap Rb to switch from Pursuits to Contracts. You must be Ego 175 to do contracts. This is a change from launch when you had to be 250.
Daily contracts award 10 reputation.
Weekly contracts award 50 reputation.
Reputation levels are as follows:
0 - Unknown
100 total - Familiar
300 total - Reliable
600 total - Trusted (max status for the achievement even though you can "bank" 1000 rep at a time)

Unfortunately no side missions don't give you any rep. You probably had a reputation boost at some point, either the one Trion gave us for the snaffu'd launch, or one from your clan. You can potentially get 12 reputation for a daily and 60 reputation for a weekly if you have the full 22% Rep boost (10% self, 5% group, and 7% clan).
And Weisguy as others have stated this IS in fact a solution. Just because it only has the "tentative" final requirements doesn't mean it does not explain how to earn rep and directs people toward one of two possible goals (600 rep or 1000 rep).
Even though I caveat the solution with the fact that it is unknown if all 4 have to be at 1000 simultaneously, most people including myself HIGHLY DOUBT that this is the case because if so then putting in a game mechanic to spend what rep you've earned on weapons would be a hell of a shady thing for the devs to do. If in fact the achieve does require 1000 rep with each, I will bet good money they don't all have to be there at the same time.

Noble - To level up after I had done the easy pursuits, I just ran around the map doing emergencies and tagging arkfalls occassionally. With the right perk setup with overcharge you can clear emergencies in a matter of seconds for 2500-3000exp. Or you can just keep doing Mine 99 over and over as it gives 5000+ exp each time and if you're good you can clear it in 2 minutes.

This is a solution for getting trusted status for echelon (600 points)
An easy way to get 600 points for echelon is to play 60 matches in shadow wars or 60 MP matches (any map). You get 10 points for completing a match which only takes about 10-15 mins. win or loss it makes no difference u still get 10 points. Even if u get no kills or captures, u can just stay away from the fighting if u don't have decent equipment and when the match ends bang 10 points.
This way u can get your achievement a lot quicker, rather then having to wait for new echelon daily/weekly contracts.
Plus a bonus if there is a weekly contract for completing X amount of shadow war matches, that's an extra 50 points in the bank.
Hope u guys find this useful, I am currently half way through to getting this achievement using this method it works a treat.

There is a good chance that it has been patched as I wrote this guide 3 years ago. I will have to go and check if this still works, but thanks for the feedback so now I'm off to check this out and I will update the guide in the next few days.

Not sure if this has been patch nerfed but completing Shadow War is awarding zero rep and winning competitive maps (like freight yard) awards 3. Losing a match awards 0.

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE
Once you reach EGO Rating 175, you’ll unlock Contracts. You can check your contracts by pressing , hold , go to Goals and press to open the Contracts tab. You’ll see contracts for 5 companies. If you open one, you’ll get to see 2 contracts. The first is a daily contract, the second is a weekly contract. There are 5 companies in total, but you only need to raise your reputation for 4 of them. You don’t have to do the Paradise Territory contracts.
For Von Bach, Soleptor Enterprises and Top Notch Toolworks, you’ll need to simply kill certain enemies. Even though it says you need to collect items, there’s no actual item drop. Just kill an equal amount of enemies as items needed. For the Echelon faction, you’ll need to play Player versus Player (PvP) matches.
For some contracts, you need to kill the enemies in co-op maps, or at a specific location. If you need the location, open your map and look at the top left corner and search for the location. Once you’ve found the location, either drive around for random spawns or strongholds. A great and quick way to farm enemies, is to search for Side Missions, or even better, Hotshots and Rampages, and see if they mention the enemies you need. For Hotshots and Rampages, simply keep repeating them. If you start a side mission, once all enemies are dead, abandon the mission ( and press ) and restart it. There are also missions active in an certain area already, without the need of starting them. If you finish such a mission, drive away from the area and return for the enemies to respawn and the mission to restart. If you need help with any of the contracts (enemies, location etc), use this website.
Enemy respawns are pretty quick, so you can farm it at one place. Also, if anyone else kills the enemies and you’re close by, it will count as a kill for you. While it’s possible to come across the enemies you need while playing the game, do note that you need to complete a contract in 24 hours or 7 days real time. If you fail to do so, it will reset and you’ll have to start a new contract.
To check your reputation (status), go to the Contracts tab and check the reputation bar for each company. It will tell you the total amount of rep you have and your status. For each daily contract you complete, you’ll earn 10 reputation for that company. For each weekly contract you’ll earn 50 reputation. You will also gain reputation even if you don’t complete a contract, but not as much.
While the actual max reputation is 1000, you’ll only need to obtain 600 reputation (Trusted Status), which will take you at least 5 weeks of continues play. That's if you complete all the daily and weekly contracts within their limit in those 5 weeks. You probably spend somewhere from 10-30 minutes on daily contracts and anywhere from 1-3 hours on weekly contracts. You can spend your earned reputation at Faction vendors, the 600 reputation is cumulative.

- 300 REP - Status: Reliable

You can speed up the progress. How much faster depends on how much money you’re willing to spend. The game has a store with micro-transactions and the PSN Store has booster packs. With real money you can purchase Bits with which you can purchase Skill EGO boosts, or you can get these as part of the booster packs in the PSN Store. You can also join a clan/group and get Clan/Group Reputation boosts. These will stack. To check if there are any boosts active, press and use to open the Boosts tab.
This is unlocked by increasing your Status with the 4 factions to the max status of Trusted. This is reached by earning at least 600 faction points with a specific faction. This will be one of the most time consuming achievements in the game.

You level up your reputation by completing contracts (daily and weekly) for each faction. You can view the list of contracts by pressing Start --> hold --> hover over the Goals section at the top --> click here or to go to the Contracts section. We open tabs for each faction and look at the list of contracts and time until completion.
There are gradations for contracts: 0-100, 100-300, 300-600, 600-1000, ...
In order to get the trophy, we need to upgrade each faction to the Trusted rating, that is, for each of them, upgrade the reputation to level 600.
There are two types of contracts: daily and weekly. For a daily contract, 10 reputation units are awarded, for a weekly contract - 40 units. Sometimes you will notice that they charge a little more (for example, for a week instead of 40 - 53), this is due to the fact that you participated in a match or in a group with people from whom a reputation boost was purchased.
Contracts are currently updated at 23:00 Moscow time (the time may change later: in the first month of the game, the update took place at 20:00 Moscow time, but was shifted due to the release of a huge patch and the closure of servers for several hours).
Daily contracts are updated every day; weekly, at the time of writing this tip, - on Mondays (this may also change later, previously it was on Sundays).
The factions “Von Bach Industries”, “Soleptor Enterprises”, “Top Notch Toolworks” give contracts related to knowledge of the area and maps, sometimes you need to go into co-op mode - the easiest ones; "Paradise" is only responsible for completing co-op maps; "Echelon" is associated only with the competetive mode (I only came across contracts in team deathmatch and capture & hold) - the most difficult contracts, in my opinion, and, most likely, you will upgrade this faction last, since you often come across very inconvenient contract requests, with conditions that largely depend on a combination of circumstances, and also there are dead hours online, when matches take quite a long time to complete, and if you don’t have a lot of free time to spend half a day in multiplayer, you will miss them.
ps For the trophy, completing contracts for the Paradise corporation is not required.

if you spent faction reputation points on buying weapons, don’t worry (although in the faction column these points will be taken away from you) for trophies it doesn’t matter.... also by joining a clan (preferably a cooler one) you will receive a bonus that increases the number of points you receive

For each participation in a battle in the Shadow War mode, regardless of whether you win it or not, you are awarded 10 points. I ended up leveling up to Trusted in Echelon faster than in other factions.
