How to unlock the Challenge Accepted achievement in Destiny 2 - Definitive Guide

As you progress through the story you will unite the 3 Vanguard members (Zavala, Cayde-6, and Ikora) and they will join all the other vendors at the Farm and will be told to speak to them.

Upon speaking to Ikora you will unlock challenges which will require you to do certain tasks such as getting multi-kills or ability kills during activities such as Strikes & Patrol. These can be checked during the activity by pressing cn_back and will appear on the right-hand side of the screen. Occasionally if there is something else being displayed on the screen there may be a delay so be patient if they don't appear straight away.

There are 3 unique challenges per activity/area and can be stacked amongst each character so this can be done within a day assuming you have at least two characters at the same stage (confirmed by OniAegis in comments below).

List of activities/locations confirmed so far for which the challenges differ:

• Earth
• IO
• Nessus
• Titan
• Strike
• Nighftall Strike
• Prestige Nightfall Strike (same challenges as normal strike but stack)
• Crucible - Quickplay
• Crucible - Competitive
• Crucible - Trials of the Nine
• Raid
• Prestige Raid*

*Currently unsure if there will be challenges in the prestige raid (which I'm assuming is likely).

Thanks Maka91, I didn't think to clarify that :)

I've now added a list with all the different activities and locations which contain different challenges (basically all of them) so it currently requires a min of 2 days to get the achievement unless someone can confirm they do stack between characters.

Can confirm this is account based rather than character based. Did a bunch of challenges on my first character and I popped the achievement while playing as a second character I created today and only just got access to challenges a couple hours ago.

By bigtoba on 26 Sep 2017 03:55
@Bigtoba there are milestones for challenges but they are separate. Unlike milestones which can be viewed at any time, you can only view challenges while you are in a particular activity e.g. If you want to see the challenges for Nessus, you have to go into Nessus and then bring up your ghost to see them.

So to clarify, this is accumulative right? You don't have to do them all at once.

I have a question. After the new update with Forsaken, how do you even start receiving challenges? I followed the guide and I don’t know how to start a challenge after this update. Before the update they appeared on screen when you activated your ghost.

By RedDevil9487 on 11 Oct 2019 14:07
@RedDevil9487 It just means get kills with that weapon type. Can be against any enemy in any activity.

i.e. Shotgun weapon calibration = gets kills with shotguns.

This method is no longer valid due to a previous update via Bungie.

Not in-game unfortunately, and I believe Bungie have implemented Xbox tracking either which is annoying.

The only way to track in-game per so is to go around each area/activity in a day and check how many challenges you've completed with that character, but as they reset daily it won't give you an overall picture. Should give you some idea though.

The achievements appear to be a bit buggy popping like in D1. I once just loaded up my game and the Life Exotic achievement randomly popped for me.

By Racxie on 14 Sep 2017 22:12
Also, I think you have different challenges for different areas. I believe they can be stacked (for the achievement) if you have multiple characters. And completing challenges will help level Ikora at the farm and you'll gain Legendary engrams.

All of the information in this guide is correct as of Season 15, Season of the Lost. I have finished my time with Destiny 2. If there are any changes to this achievement in a future update it will be up to someone else to write the guide.

With the Forsaken update what was considered "Challenges" were changed to "Bounties" and no longer work for this achievement.

*Update*
Challenges have changed once again with the Beyond Light update. I logged in and my character was at 1100 light level.

There are several weekly challenges that you can complete each week. There are weekly challenges for doing bounties for NPCs in the Tower. There are also weekly challenges for doing Crucible, Gambit, Strikes and Nightfall Strikes, and dungeons. You will know there is a weekly challenge when there is a gold star by the option on the Destinations tab.

When you highlight the NPC on the Tower map in the directory it will show the gold "weekly challenge" under their description. Go to that NPC and you will be able to purchase 4 bounties that have specific requirements with your glimmer. The bounties only last one day after purchasing them.

The NPCs I was able to find in the Tower were

Zavala (strike bounties)
Banshee-44 (gun bounties for various weapons
Lord Shaxx (crucible bounties)
The Drifter (Gambit bounties)
Suraya Hawthorne (clan bounties - mainly for raids)

You can purchase a 5th bounty from the NPCs for more glimmer than the normal ones that gives a random requirement.

Just doing what the bounties requires does not automatically complete it. To claim the bounty reward you just open the directory and go to the Quests tab. From there all the bounties you have aquiried will be on the right side of the screen. The ones you have completed will be at the top. Click on them to claim the rewards and have them count for the weekly challenge.

For the playlist items you only need to do however many matches it requires. Generally Gambit and Crucible want 3 matches each. Nightfall Strikes have percentage bar, where harder Nightfall Strikes fill the bar faster. Once you have completed the required number of matches the weekly challenge automatically completes.

I finally figured this shit out, you can get a max of 6-8 per week but I'm unsure of what dailies count. at a point you unlock challenges for planets (atm I only have the gold icon for EDZ) and the playlists (vanguard, gambit and crucible)

it's on uh the planet to the right now the gold icons indicate challenges you can do 10 a week. possibly more if you have a clan/good fireteam to break the 100k score on the nightfall I don't think any daily stuff counts, if it did I'd have the achievement by now, looks like I have a week left after I do this week (maybe another week)

Just a tip if you feel like you have completed 30 but haven't unlocked the achievement, go to Settings > Log Out > Switch Profile then sign in again and pick your character again, this often forces achievements in this game to pop and is generally a good practice for a lot of them in the game

I did exactly the same thing as the "Soundgoodizer" did: leave my profile and open another profile. Then I left the other profile and had mine open again. And there: my achievement has been unlocked! Finally, by my count, there were already at least 36 challenges completed. This achievement is buggy!

FYI from what I can tell, most of the weekly challenges no longer appear until you reach light level 1200. You can still do the weeklies for bounties that you redeem at the tower (shax, Zavala, Gunsmith, Gambit, clan XP), but the ones for actually playing in Crucible, Gambit and Strikes won’t show until you reach Light 1200 (excluding artifact).

While I have not gotten it yet I can confirm that while playing with some friends after the change they completed one challenge and got the achievement. So they had done 29 challenges from the old way and then did one the new way and they stacked. Granted that was like 3 months ago so I can't say for anything too recently.

Pretty sure I'm doing it correct. Been doing the 8 bounties for zavala, the drifter and banshee. The 5 nightfalls, weekly flashpoint, clan bounties and completing 3 gambit matches.

Always comes up with challenge completed at bottom of screen and made sure I'm collecting the rewards as well.

Unless 1 or more of those challenges don't count toward the achievement, then I can't see why it hasn't unlocked yet. I've been tracking them and definitely done 32 in total. Guess I'll have to keep grinding it out and hope it unlocks soon.

Up to date solution as of January 2021

Challenges appear on the Director as a gold medal icon.

When you hover over the vendor or activity that's offering a challenge, you'll see it as a gold bar on their popup. This screenshot shows two challenges for Nightfall: The Ordeal
External image

New challenges appear at the weekly reset and you'll have until the next weekly reset to complete them. There appears to be no way to view how many challenges you've completed, so keep track of it yourself.

You may need to do more than 30 challenges; it didn't pop for me until I did 37. My 37th challenge was for completing Crucible bounties, and it popped after I talked to Shaxx and claimed my reward. You may need to do the switch profile trick.

The exact challenges offered can vary week-to-week, but the following is a list of frequently-appearing challenges, what vendor/activity offers them, and how to complete them. I've read that some of these challenges won't appear until you've hit the soft power level cap, which is currently 1200.

Zavala: Complete 8 Vanguard Bounties
Zavala's bounties are for Strikes, and require a number of kills with a specific ability or weapon type or of a specific type of enemy.

Gunsmith: Complete 8 Gunsmith Bounties
The Gunsmith's bounties are framed as "calibration," and are for kills in a specific world, activity, or with a specific weapon type.

Shaxx: Complete 8 Crucible Bounties
Lord Shaxx's bounties are for completing or winning Crucible matches, sometimes in specific playlists, or for specific categories of kills.

Drifter: Complete 8 Gambit Bounties
The Drifter's bounties are for winning Gambit matches, banking motes, or for doing specific things during matches.

Hawthorne: Complete clan bounties (misleading name)
Suraya Hawthorne's challenge is actually for earning 5000 Clan XP. She does offer bounties for doing activities with clan members that will give you Clan XP, but those aren't required. Simply being a member of a clan and doing activities solo will earn you Clan XP. This older Bungie.net post seems to line up with my experience of what activities give Clan XP and how much. You'll very likely knock this out without even trying if you're working on bounties for the other vendors.

Vanguard Strikes: Complete 3 strikes using the same subclass element as the currently active elemental burn
When you tap on the playlist, there'll be a set of icons off to the left. Hover over each one; one of them will be an elemental "Singe." Equip the subclass for that element and complete three strikes in the playlist.

Complete Nightfall: The Ordeal activities. Higher difficulties grant the most efficient progress
If you're playing on the lowest difficulty, it will take three strikes to complete this challenge. I don't know how many you need on higher difficulties.

Complete Nightfall: The Ordeal with a team score above 100,000
You have to play on Legend or above for a score that high to be possible. I've also seen some older articles that say you start losing points after 20 minutes, so completing the strike quickly is important.

Crucible and Gambit usually also have challenges for completing a few matches.

Challenges are the new name for Destiny's bounty system, and they work in much the same way. As you progress through the story, eventually Ikora will be available at The Farm, and she will be your contact to obtain new challenges. You will get three challenges in each different activity type (open your ghost to view them). You'll be doing dozens and dozens of these as you work toward the end-game grind. Most of them you'll complete without even really setting out to as they ask for fairly generic things, such as killing certain enemy types, or getting kills with specific skills.

These are the places/activities that will offer challenges:

  • Earth Patrol
  • Titan Patrol
  • Io Patrol
  • Nessus Patrol
  • Strikes
  • Nightfall Strike
  • Crucible Quickplay
  • Crucible Competitive
  • Raid
Using all of these activities, you could get 27 challenges done in one day, so you'll need at least two to unlock the achievement - though likely you'll just work on it over time.

New Light update: Challenges now weekly tasks for completing three strikes, five Nightfalls (higher difficulty means more progress), four core Crucible matches, four rotating Crucible matches, three Gambit matches, three Nightmare Hunts, one Shadowkeep mission, Pit of Heresy, Prophecy, or Garden of Salvation. These can be completed across all three characters.

Since the release of Destiny 2: New Light, many challenges will only be unlocked once you reach Power Level 900. Up to this point, only a few challenges are available to you. Challenges are all daily and weekly activities that are given to you automatically and are marked with a special icon on the map. These are not tasks/bounties that can be taken from characters. Each type of activity has its own challenges, plus there are challenges for almost every major character in the tower. This could be completing 3 strikes, completing a certain number of daily tasks for a character, completing 4 crucible matches, etc. Typically, such tests are rewarded with an item of increased light level. Weekly challenges are updated once a week, on Tuesdays, daily challenges are issued one each day and, after completion, will be available again after 4 days.

You don't have to go through everything with one person. All tests completed by three Persians count, so we calmly play and level up three Persians.

At the moment the trophy works, but I can’t say how correctly. You may have to do a little more than what the trophy requires. But if you, like me, don’t really understand with your fingers, I’m talking about all the available tips for this achievement, then I will leave two screenshots to clearly show what you need to do, where to look, and what it is in general.
The first screenshot is a test in the tower, there are a lot of them there, for every faction leader. For example, the person in charge of the Crucible or Gambit has contracts; after completing 8 contracts, you do the Weekly Challenge . It counts. Each of the characters also has them. For example, having completed all the tests in the Tower as a Hunter, switch to Titan and you can do them again. I’ll also mention that it’s not necessary to get a random contract, which can sometimes be too stuffy. Just complete the 4 contracts you already have and new ones will appear the next day. I will also say that in order for the test to be completed, you must return to the Tower for your reward.

Second screen. This is also a Weekly challenge and it has 3 stages. It’s hard to say whether each stage or the entire test counts towards the trophy. But it's better to fight to the last. In this case, the test counts any activity. Whether it's Vanguard or Crucible or Gambit, everything counts. All you need to know is that tests are marked with these yellow icons that look like suns)

Trials open closer to level 14, according to the plot. Essentially, in every open location you will have challenges from Ikora. Go to an open location and press the back button on the gamepad; on the right side of the screen there will be those same tests.

Let me add that there are tests not only in open locations, but in strikes, the crucible, and I think all activities.
