Same issue here. Hit level 20 in-game, no achievement. Log out, sign back in, and achievement popped.

You'd think with all the times we had to log out and sign back in for D1, they would've fixed that for this game.

Agree with S1rJ0hn0fYork and Tandar1. Kind of ... dumb that it hasn't been fixed. Someone must have lost their post-it list ...

So this cheevo didn't pop for me initially, and I'm not really sure why. However, today there was some maintenance and while I was playing it sent me back to the title screen to download a small update. As soon as I logged back in as my only character, the achievement popped. Probably been at least a week since I actually hit level 20, and I did try the "log out and log back in" trick to get it to pop a couple times with no luck, so I'm just glad I got it eventually.

This is the line and sinker achievement in this hard achievement list?

This Achievement is still glitched only on Xbox One.

I played it most on Battle.net. When moved to Steam, i got the Steam achievement.
The game have cross-save. I started it on PS4, and trophy popped up.

I start it with same save on Xbox One, and no achievements pop after starting game 2 times.

I loaded up the game a few months ago for my very first time and never got any achievements in it (only played a few minutes). Then today I log in and beat the first prologue mission thing and bam, I get this achievement and my character was brand new. Are they giving all new players a Level 20 character now or something with this new update?

@K4rn4ge apparently this is the case, you should have earned all sub-classes too if you didn't have them before! I'm about to jump in on a backup, and this is reportedly the case.

Got this achievement by playing the side-mission, Shadowed Keeper. It should come naturally by playing the planets, IO, Moon, and Nessus.

I just downloaded Destiny 2 and was playing with a friend. We were playing through the tutorial/prologue at the same time - the achievement popped for him and not me. Any suggestions for how to trigger it? I tried creating a new character and going through the prologue again with no luck.

I just started playing today. Because of it being on Game Pass, chose (what I'm guessing is) Destiny 1 carry over file. As soon as the tutorial started I unlocked this one & the Titan subclass achievement.

Same as above, created a character and it unlocked. I played Destiny 1 and hit level 40 in that, carry-over?

Since it hadn't been stated, yes, now when you start a character, you are just immediately level 20. You have all subclasses open as well. You don't even do the initial missions anymore, you're thrust in with very, very little guidance.

Me and a friend unlocked this only by creating a character. We never played Destiny or Destiny 2 before. We just started the game and created a character. Right after finishing the character, not even in the actual game, during the loadscreen it popped up.

Very simple achievement to get since the release of New Light and Shadowkeep.

All you have to do is create your guardian, complete first mission and achievement unlocks straight away.

As of Jan 2022 it's just a case of choosing your class, deciding how you want your character to look and hitting to confirm. Should pop when you hit to confirm your character

You will gain experience for basically every action you take in Destiny 2. Killing enemies, completing any type of quest (patrols, adventures, story quests), and even competing in the Crucible. You'll most likely get to Level 20 simply by playing through the game's main story quest, but if not you will be given an immediate boost by completing a mission in the Traveler hub area that opens once the story is done. Speak with Hawthorne to start the quest, which is simply a matter of speaking with Ikora, Zavala, and Cayde. No matter what level you are when you do the quest, you'll jump right to Level 20. Hawthorne is marked on the map below.

New Light update: This will unlock after you create your character.

Issued for reaching level 20 - the maximum level in the base game of the game without add-ons. You will actually automatically receive it by completing the story. Almost all story missions have a level requirement, and you are forced to reach a certain level in order to continue the story. For the final story mission they give enough experience to gain 2-4 levels. If you want to get it faster, just clear the map from secondary tasks. Clearing two planets is enough to get level 20.
