How to unlock the The Prestige achievement in Destiny 2 - Definitive Guide

Update: During Season of the Lost, the Grandmaster Nightfall difficulty will be available until February 22 when the season ends.

During a season of Destiny 2, there will be 6 total Grandmaster Strikes available. Normally these strikes will cycle each week; but towards the end of the season all 6 will be available giving you the option of which strike you wish to attempt.

Before attempting a Grandmaster Nightfall it's important to note that you will be severely handicapped. Enemies are going to be 25 power levels above you meaning they will always hit harder. To add to that, you will need to be within 25 levels of the Grandmaster before even attempting it; this includes bonus power gained from the seasonal artifact. Bonus power is acquired through normal exp gains from anything in the game.

To demonstrate: The current pinnacle power (as of season 15) is 1330. Grandmasters are 1370, meaning you have to be at 1345 to even attempt a GM. You do not have to have be at the power level cap to attempt a GM you just need to be at 1345. That being said, if you are over 1345 you will still be treated as if you were 1345.

Grandmasters, in addition to Legend & Master difficulty, do not have matchmakinng enabled so you will be required to find a fireteam of three. Unlike the other Nightfall difficulties, Grandmaster gives your fireteam a pool of lives that is shared. If your fireteam loses all lives or all three of you are dead then you will be sent back to orbit, requiring you to start the nightfall from the beginning. However, your team can earn additional lives by killing what is called a Champion.

Champions are present in the Nightfall Ordeal difficulties of Hero all the way to Grandmaster. They are a type of enemy that requires a specific mod to combat them.

The mods are as followed
Barrier: A mod that pierces barrier of a champion which will stun it. After receiving a certain amount of damage, Barrier Champions will erect a barrier that will make them immune to damage unless you use a barrier mod to destroy their barrier.

Stagger: This mod will produce a stagger-like mechanic after you ADS for a few seconds. This is used on Unstoppable Champions that have an aggressive behavior when compared to other enemies. Once staggered, the champion will be unable to move for a few seconds and will more vulnerable to damage.

Disruption: This mod is used on champions that have an erratic behavior known as Overload Champions. These champions are similar in behavior to the Unstoppable in that they will be very aggressive. Some will move faster while others will attack faster. These are by far the more aggravating of the champion types.

One thing to keep in mind is that the mods needed to combat champions can be acquired from the seasonal artifact. In addition, there are some exotics that will have an anti-champion mod intrinsically.

One final tip: if you ever decide to do The Glassway strike - don't. You'll thank me.

Can you do this at 297 level?

I was the only one at 300+, if you're close to 300 you should be fine. As long as your other two fireteam members are 295+ you'll be golden.

The description say complete the raid or a prestige nightfall. I completed the raid and this achievement didn't unlock, and I did the switch profile method and still didn't pop. Thoughts?

The raid has to be on prestige difficulty as well for it to count.

Yes. The raid will need to be on prestige for it to count. So just to save everyone time and headache I wrote this guide because the Nightfall will be faster and require less people. It will also have the amplifiers which will actually make it easier.

This week's is pretty easy. Did it with a 300 striker, 302 storm caller, and 296 void Walker. Just clear out the adds at the first two sets of rings and have someone spring through the drill part while the other two try and get rings. We had 6:25 left when the boss spawned in and had a little under 2 minutes left at the end.

The easiest one to do legit is Pyramidion with Torrent and Zero Hour(as the guide suggests).
The easiest one to do at all is Savathun's Song with Anomalies, as there is a bug that allows you to max out the timer

Just a heads up this is prob currently unobtainable . They released a paid DLC on Dec 5 that upped the power level of all prestige modes to 330. You cant actually hit that level unless you own the DLC.

I heard so it'll be partially unob. I don't remember them doing this with a lot of their content in D1, but I do remember them screwing people in year 3 that didn't have RoI.

Despite the anger around this situation, this week's Bungie weekly blog post doesn't really address the matter. It does state, "We are aware that there are some Destiny 2 Trophies and Achievements that have become unavailable to players who have not purchased Curse of Osiris. We are committed to fixing this issue, and are currently investigating a solution. Please stay tuned for more updates on this topic as progress is made."

There was a blog post tonight. They are making changes this week to lower the raid back down. No news on prestige nightfall for now but the prestige raid will be lowered back to 300 light and the achievement it sounds like will be changed to complete a prestige raid.

It looks like they changed the description of the achievement to “Complete A Nightfall strike on Grandmaster difficulty.” And for ‘Belly Of The Beast’ it’s now “Complete a Nightfall strike on Master difficulty.”. So thankfully it’s not unobtainable.

The nightfall strikes change each week. (Reset on Tuesday) lake of shadows would be a "easier" strike. To look out for. The one last week wouldn't have been to bad. I forget the name but it's on the moon.

So we knock it out with 1:30 left but the achievement didn't unlock.... any idea why?!?!

Update: The fix is easy and same as to original Destiny, you'll have to use Switch profile option.

Go to games Menu -> Settings and choose Log out -> Switch Profile, you'll be logged out of the game.
Once at Main menu screen start the game again and choose your Profile and then your Guardian, your achievements will be unlocked at this point and acknowledgement for same should pop up on your screen..

Wrong, as long as you're above 300 you're fine for prestige. Can't go past 305 without the DLC.

Eriana's Vow is available in the Exotics Kiosk. So, if you have an Exotic Cipher, and the materials to afford buying it, I would recommend getting Eriana's Vow, as it has Anti-Barrier built in. Alternatively, the new exotic sword, The Lament, also has Anti-Barrier built in, but, since it is a sword, this is much riskier.

You need a certain level of light to play nightfall strike on Grandmaster difficulty. In this season that required level is 1275, 1260 base level + 15 artifact level. Moreover, you need help of two people/friends at the same level or higher, and it wouldn't be easy because enemies are at 1300 light level. One more thing, there is a limited time. At the end of the season power light will be increase (grandmaster too) so you would need to repeat that insane hardwork (leveling up) to face these strikes.

A really really really time consuming and insane achievement. Thanks Bungie.

Tactic we used for Pyramidion.

Hunter Nightstalker - can vanish and hack the 4 consoles easy. And the multi arrow super for the final phase of boss

2 Titan Strikers with double grenades.

When boss is in final phase and spawns to middle, everyone should have a super. Hunter instantly nails him multiple times as he spawns in the middle with the tether, both strikers pop supers and hit him when he’s tethered.

Boss had about half health and was left with a slither when we were done. Granted we all then died, but wait your 30 seconds, respawn at the same time, hurl grenades and rockets and it’s done.

We got to the boss with about 6m 45s and finished with 1m 2s left.

Also for room with 3 circles to stand in near the end. Don’t go in them. Clear all ads. Then all 3 of you take one each at same time. When done run to the force field, have the hunter make you all invisible and then run through.

As of Beyond Light, the Leviathan raid is no longer in the game, so Bungie changed the requirements of this achievement to: Complete a Nightfall strike on Grandmaster difficulty.

If you didn't get to complete the Leviathan raid on Prestige (an amazing experience, I might say), getting this might be less or more complicated depending on how much you enjoy harder content. Nightfall rotations change every season, but there's always 6.

Grandmaster Nightfalls are some of the hardest PVE experience currently in the game, but with enough practice and a coordinated team, you can easily complete even the harder ones.

Considering the rotation of different strikes, some will obviously be easier than others.
I consider practicing with some good builds and then giving it a try.

Prestige difficulty can be selected from the Director when launching the Nightfall or Raid. The Power Level recommendation is 300, and you can not change your loadout after entering the activity. The timer on the Nightfall is shortened from the regular version, but other than that, it is largely the same activity, just harder.

Since this activity requires the highest Power level, I figured here would be a good place to link a guide to leveling. That guide also has links to two other guides at the bottom if you're still confused in any way. Between the three you should easily be able to get your Power level maxed out.

Beyond Light update: See Belly of the Beast. All of that information applies but this version is harder.  Like way harder. The difficulty is set at about 20 levels over the pinnacle cap for the season. Grandmasters also don't become available until about halfway into the season.

It’s better to wait for the Grandmaster “Lake of Shadows”, look for a team and go through it

This trophy is earned by completing any Nightfall on Grandmaster difficulty. During each calendar week (from Tuesday to Tuesday), only one raid, randomly selected by the admins, is available for completion. If you have not purchased any DLC, then you can still get the trophy by waiting a week when a raid from the base version of the game is selected for completion (there are several of them - if it allows it in the group gathering menu, then you can pass).

One of the easiest raids to complete on the Grandmaster is Fallen SABER. If the other two players know what to do, then you can safely make it to the final boss, the main thing is not to die again. On the boss it is important to stand in the right spots. Video guide (en).

I recommend raising the level to at least -5 from the recommended level for the “Grandmaster” in the current season; if the gap is larger, you will die with a few hits even from the first mobs. It takes about 30 minutes to complete the entire passage. Completing the “Grandmaster” does not unlock the trophy for completing the “Master” - you must complete it separately.
