How to unlock the Wishing for the Best achievement in Destiny 2 - Definitive Guide

Update 4/21/2019: This achievement can be obtained by just finishing the last encounter of the raid. You can get a checkpoint for the heart run (aka Queenswalk), and once completed, the achievement will pop for you.

If you would like a quick completion and have a checkpoint at the heart, feel free to reach out to me at discord, Tekmote#9815

====================================================

This raid has a total of 6 encounters. Please note that the encounters can be beaten at a lower light level than the suggestion listed below. However, being at the recommended light level should make the encounter a little easier to beat.

The guide below is a very basic explanation of the encounter. For a detailed walkthrough, I suggest you check out one of the following sites:
- https://www.pcgamesn.com/destiny-2/forsaken-last-wish-raid-g...

The video below has my view of completing the entire Queenswalk encounter outside of the heart. Fast forward to 12:30 of the video to see the path you need to take in case you never get teleported inside the heart.

Congratulations, you have beaten the "Last Wish" raid.

Maybe stupid question, but i ask it anyway. Is it possible that you can get the achievement just for "last part" (Queenswalk) of the raid?

Note: This wish for the etheral can only be used ONCE per account. You cannot get a second key on your second or third character. You also cannot get another key after the weekly reset once this wish has been activated.

You need to be Season Rank 3 (and or higher =>season 9). Just SPAM the leader SLOANE or Shipwright Captain Tara Halliday. It’s SEASON 9. You must purchase the SHADOWKEEP:1000 silver PREMIERE rift pass.

N3m3siSxQCx just hit me up on discord (Tekmote#9815) and let me see what I can setup. The game is kinda in a low point at the moment, so not a lot of people are playing, but I can probably try to figure something out if schedules align. I just helped out another TA member 2 days ago (July 4, 2020), and he asked for help on July 3, 2020.

Apparently stasis makes killing Riven incredibly easy. Also I don’t know what’s happening but every day several more people have this achievement despite there never being any sessions for it.

Please update your guide with the current season's power caps. Add information about how using stasis affects the raid. Without this info, it makes this current guide partially obsolete. Thank you. You're welcome.

For people that want to complete this raid, find a “Looking for Group” post and keep refreshing and looking until you find someone who is willing to teach or carry. Don’t join one that they require you to know exactly what to do, since it is your first time. This is the method I used and I found someone who was nice enough to explain everything to me, and he gave everyone a role. By the time that I joined, they were starting from the 2nd encounter, so you do not have to start from the beginning for the achievement. It took over 6 hours for us to complete, but it felt very accomplishing when the achievement popped! And on top of that, I got 1K Voices on my first completion!

Just a warning to people, this raid is now buggy as anything. Some things work, some things fail you that shouldn't, the whole thing has degraded into a broken mess. Get in, get out and good luck!

So I've just completed this and no unlock, and I have the triumph for completing the raid... I've done the standard switch profile to get achievements to unlock for this game and nothing...

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Can confirm just doing the Queen's Walk will pop this. I found a random LFG on the Xbox app for this, and after about an hour of trying we made it. :)
If you want to actually open a raid chest at the end, you need to start from the Riven fight.

For those looking for a checkpoint for Last Wish (and a potential fireteam as well), D2checkpoint, https://d2checkpoint.com/, is a great resource. It's not obvious how the site works but you can find articles walking through the process, like ScreenRant, https://screenrant.com/destiny-2-checkpoint-bot-how-to-uses/, and DOT eSports, https://dotesports.com/destiny/news/how-to-use-the-checkpoin....

I’m gonna level with y’all - I really, really dislike raiding on this game (I love the game, just not a fan of spending hours and hours attempting something for which, if you fail, you gain nothing). I’ve just completed the Gambit Triumph Seal, which leaves this achievement (Wishing For The Best), as the last I need for the 100%.

I would be eternally grateful to anyone that could put me in their backpack, and literally, figuratively, and probably emotionally, carry me through the last checkpoint. I’m rocking a 653 Hunter, so there shouldn’t be a light level issue.

I got Flawless Raider in D1, so I shouldn’t be useless, but I cannot stress enough that I am essentially begging for a carry at this point. I don’t play the game “regularly” enough to be in an active clan, and playing with ransoms is often (not always) a massive waste of time, which when exams are around the corner is not my bag (I understand the inherent irony of what I’m posting).

Please hit me up on Xbox (Flaymex) if you’ve got the last checkpoint and want to help a completionist out ❤️ Big love to everyone that has already done similar!

UPD: I did only the Riven Fight + Heart Run, the achievement was unlocked after I've opened a reward chest, at the same time as I received the respective in-game trophy for completing the Raid. So I can confirm it's not needed to do the full raid and it's only necessary to kill Riven, do the Heart Run and open at least one reward chest at the end.

Original comment:
Lukejordan16, I know I'm a bit late with a response, but my guess is that it may just not pop instantly. It's a common issue with Destiny 2 achievements, and sometimes you need to go to the settings and select "Switch Profile", then sign in back into the game and select your character, the achievement will pop either when in orbit, or when spawned in any destination.

I'm planning to set up a session for this raid, so if I succeed with my run, I'll confirm whether it's still sufficient to just do the Riven encounter + Queenswalk, or it's now needed to do the full Raid, but chances are, the final 2 encounters are enough.

The reason it might not work if you do JUST a 6th checkpoint (aka Riven's Heart or Queenswalk) is that you have to do the Riven fight to get access to the chests with rewards after the last encounter. The Riven encounter is where you get an Ethereal Key for the final reward chest. You can get Ethereal Keys by entering the 1st wish on the wall, but I'm not sure if it'll count really, so it's more straightforward to just kill Riven and then do a Queenswalk. Without Ethereal Keys in your possession, you won't get to open the chest after doing the raid, this might also be the reason why someone didn't get the achievement and told you that.

Required players: 6
Prerequisites:
  • Completed Forsaken questline.
  • Unlocked the Dreaming City.
Recommended Power Level: 550.

The Last Wish is made up of six main encounters. I'll do a quick breakdown of each below. At the end will be the list of wishes that can be made.

Kalli

Around the center of the room there are six symbols hanging above the room. Find the plates associated with them and send each player to one of them. The plates are divided into thirds. Get on one section of the plate at a time. The other two will be glowing green and have tiny blights on them. Once all three sections have been stood on, a Taken Knight will spawn in. Kill it quickly and move to help anyone that hasn't killed theirs yet.

Go to the middle and jump into the area below where Kalli now is. Do as much damage as possible until Kalli prepares her weapon (a gray aura will appear over her head). Six small rooms will open up beneath her. Each person runs into one. Run out, kill the Taken, and do more damage.

Repeat this two more times until she disappears. If you need to do multiple damage phases, then repeat exactly what you have done before.

Hidden Chest: On your way to the next encounter, you will need to cross a bridge, but on the under side of it. One the center pillar, you can climb or jump down to find a chest.

Shuro Chi

Kill everything as quickly as possible when Shuro opens the room up. She will retreat to small platform after all of the Taken are dead. Three crystals and plates will appear around her. Three people have to grab the crystals, stand on the small plates, and shoot beams at each other. All six people will damage her to remove 1/6 of her health. If needed, there is a Taken Captain that drops an Eye of Riven. If you use the super attack of it on Shuro while she is preparing her weapon, it will stun her for a few seconds.

Proceed to kill the Taken that appear until you see Shuro at a second plate. Repeat the above process again until you remove another 1/6 of her health.

Backtrack a bit and go into the first puzzle room. There are nine plates on the floor and three puzzles on the walls around the plates. Start at the left one and have four people jump on the plates that correspond to the missing pieces of the image. Repeat that for the next two images. With the second and third puzzles, you cannot stand on the same plate twice. If you need to, ask to rotate with other people. The other two people should be killing the Taken that will spawn. Climb up the platforms that rotate and proceed to the next platform.

This next cycle is a repeat of the last one. You will remove her health 1/6 at a time and then complete another puzzle room. Climb up to go to the final section of the room. The final section is the same as the previous ones, but there is no puzzle room.

You will have to jump into a portal and across some rocks in the Ascendant Realm to proceed.

Hidden chest: Just before climb up some rocks to proceed into the Ascendant Realm, turn to the left and run around the outside. There will be a tree angled upwards. Jump onto the tree and then jump over to the cliff across.

Morgeth

Three people will need to go to each side of the room. One person will need to pick up the floating white orb (Taken strength) near Morgeth. That person will have a Taken strength of one.

Kill Taken until two Taken strength orbs appear on both sides. One person on each side (not the person with one already) will pick up both. You cannot pick up more than two Taken strengths. There is a Taken Captain on either or both sides that will drop an Eye of Riven. One of the two people that picked up orbs will caught in a Taken vortex. The person with the Eye of Riven will need to run over and use the eye to remove the vortex. The person that uses the eye now has two Taken Strength and the person in the vortex will need to get two more orbs. Proceed until everyone, but the person with one Taken strength, has two or until a single Taken orb appears. The person with one orb will pick this one up to begin the damage phase. Everyone should group up on the bridge in front of him.

If you have six people with Whisper of the Worm, you can kill him in one phase. Keep shooting at his back until Morgeth releases a bunch of Axion bolts. These will kill with one hit. A Titan with the new Sentinal shield should use that to block the incoming bolts and the other should keep firing.

It's very easy to one phase kill Morgeth, but if necessary, the second round is a repeat of the first.

The Vault

This is one of the more complex rooms in the raid. Three people will be clearing enemies and three people will be unlocking the vault.

For the people killing enemies, the priority is to kill the Knights that spawn in. On the first key, there will be one, two on the second, and three on the third. You have kill them quickly because if they kneel on one of the plates for more than a few seconds, they will kill everyone. There are three cycles of this to unlock the vault.

The three people on the plate can help with the enemies and knights when they are not unlocking the vault. They should stand on each of the plates and look towards the middle of the room. There will be three symbols on the center pillar. One person calls out which symbol is their middle symbol. Describe it as quickly and as best as you can. One of the other two will say if that symbol is on their right or left of their three. If it's on the left, they have a Penumbra plate. If it's on the right, then they have an Antumbra plate. That person then calls out which middle symbol that they have and the third person will say if it's on the right or left side.

If you know what those two plates are, then the third is easy to figure out. If both plates are Penumbra, then the third plate is Antumbra. The same goes for the vice versa case. If one plate is Penumbra and one is Antumbra, then don't worry about what it is. It will be determined by which buff the runners pick up.

After the symbols, the room will have barriers around it, but one side will remain open. It will either be on the Steps, Rocks, or Trees side. The person that was on that side's plate will run in kill the Captain and pick up the Eye of Riven. Someone will have to tell the runner which side is now open. They have to run through the side tunnels to reach the open side. On the left side, it will say Penumbra or Antumbra. They will need to run to the matching plate from the previous section and use :l1: to detonate.

The same patter happens for the other two plates and the other two cycles of the vault.

Riven

Riven is either the most complex boss fight or the simplest one if you decide to cheese it. The cheese is detailed below. If you want to see the normal way, here you go:

The group load out that you should have for this cheese is: three Gunslingers with Celestial Nighthawks, two Sunbreakers with the top tree activated, and one Dawncaller with the Well of Radiance. Each person should have on a rocket launcher with cluster bombs. The primary weapon is used as a back up, but use Rat King.

Go to the six plates to begin the fight. All six people will then run to the crystal side room. If you see Riven's tail go past the room, then you are ok. If you do not see her tail, then you will need to run out of the room and run into a corner of the previous room that lets you join allies to teleport back to the beginning. Run as quickly as possible down the lift shafts to get to the tree side. Riven should be there just after you arrive and quickly clear enemies.

Drop the Well of Radiance and one of the Titans will do a shoulder charge on her. Everyone should begin firing rockets into her mouth and the Hunters should fire their Golden Guns. The second Titan should prepare to shoulder charge her head after a few seconds. Keep firing until she reaches around 10% health. At that point, she will leave and everyone will be teleported into the Ascendant Realm. Run along the platforms to reach a Taken strength orb. Only one person will need to make it to this. If you die, you will need to be revived back in the room. Once the orb has been touched, you will be teleported out and have to kill Riven.

She is dead, but you are not done. Jump into her mouth and run down her throat and destroy the blight at her heart.

The Heart

This is a relay race. One person will be randomly selected to carry the heart. They can carry it for about 15 seconds until they are pulled into the heart. They should do a countdown because anyone near them will be pulled into the heart too.

Another person will be selected at random. They will have to carry it for 15 seconds while everyone else clears enemies. When someone is in the heart though, there will be one Taken strength orb for each person in the room. Picking up all of these will extend the time that the heart can be carried for another 15 seconds. You can still hold two at a time.

This will carry on until the heart is carried out through the vault and down the lift to where Shuro and Kalli are. Once they cleanse the heart, the raid is complete.

The Wishing Wall

From where you enter the raid, progress to the entrance to the first room. If you enter the first room and begin the Kalli encounter once, The Wishing Wall will go away. There are 15 wishes.

To gain access to the raid you need to complete the main story of the add-on and get light level 540. However, for a comfortable raid, it is advisable that the entire group be around light level 580. Just like with all other raids, to get the trophy you do not have to complete the entire raid from beginning to end, it is enough to complete the last stage - “running with your heart”. It is not necessary to open the chest to get the trophy; however, you can get one key for a wish without killing the final boss. The trophy is awarded exactly at the moment when you receive a message about the completion of the task. You can use teleportation to the last boss through wishes to speed up the process, the trophy will still be given out.

At the moment, there are objectively only two difficult stages in the raid, the second and the last. In both cases, they are complex solely because of the need for coordinated actions and strong time constraints. Plus there are still bugs at the second stage. If the developers fix the ability to quickly kill the final boss, bypassing the mechanics with symbols, then the difficulty of the raid will increase.

I recommend “Intruder” in the 1st slot, and yes, don’t forget to put the gear on the reserve ammunition of rocket launchers.

After the "Crazy Wastelands" update, the 2-minute method of killing specifically "Riven" may NOT work, because... nerfed CLUSTER BOMBS!!!
The raid is not nearly as difficult as they say. You just need to act in a coordinated manner so that everyone knows what they need to do.
Boss No. 1, we killed her the same way, I advise you to kill her with the “Sham” ( video ).
Boss No. 2, If there is no “Ikel D”, then the “Alien” (shotgun from Gambit) or simply from the “Malinger” ( video ) will do. It is worth noting that the stage is much more difficult than “Riven” itself or other Bosses, so carefully watch this video about stages with buttons.
In general, as the Boss of Nightfall, it all depends on how quickly you deal with the buffs ( video ).
It’s not difficult, even despite Triple’s words, just understand the signs, how and who should call out ( video ).
By Riven. There are many videos and many ways, but here’s how we did it:
1) Warlock + Well of Light + “Faction Moon” (these are Exotic boots) + RPG “Bad Omens”
2) Titan Sunbreaker+"Bad Omens"
3) Hunter + "Tow Gun" + Golden Pistol (WITH HELMET for 1 shot with 6x DAMAGE)
The rest doesn’t matter who, as long as there is an RPG “Bad Omens” (EXCLUSIVELY ABSOLUTE! FOR THE 2nd RESET FROM GAMBIT!).
Hunter flies in from the tow, thereby debuffing Riven, the others are already landing with an RPG right in her mouth, the hunter, after 1 shot from the tow, shoots with a Golden Gun and continues to hit from the tow while standing in the warlock's puddle.
Thus, we destroyed "Riven" in 12 seconds and completed the stage with it by running along the tower.
Extremely simple.
