How to unlock the Bane of the Emperor achievement in Destiny - Definitive Guide

Can be done on the first story mission on Mars. You'll get to a point where your Ghost will open a massive door that will introduce you for the first time to the cabal.

If found I could snipe the cabal with a Sniper Rifle & Hand-cannon for easy headshots in the same corridor. Just lure them foreword and poke your head out briefly if you need them back.

They have relatively large heads so they shouldn't be a problem to hit, but some will be using shields. For them just shoot their arm, and they will stagger, revealing their head for 2-3 seconds.

Pick the first difficulty option if the enemies are hard to kill, and try doing this at about lvl 16 at minimum.

Hope this helps guys!

Also, here's a handy video guide I made wink

Also; for those having trouble unlocking glitchy achievement do this:

Press the Menu button RB over to settings, highlight Log Out and choose Switch Profile (not Change Character). This will take you back to the game start screen, and once you press A, it will ask you to choose your Xbox Live profile.

Choose your profile and then choose your character from the character select screen. Any achievements that should have been unlocked will then unlock.

*Cheers to FLEEBS & ludo10109 for the info
wink

Achievement is very buggy. I just played the first mission and had 43 precision headshots and no deaths.

I can confirm BadAssCody, I Just got 53 precision kills on the first Mars mission and no chevo, yet I got two others using the same method (head shots) and they worked fine, so it looks a bit glitchy on this one.

Hope they fix it soon.

As stated on other achievements guides: switch characters or create a new one and any achievements you should have gotten before will pop while loading opening cutscene. Hope it works for you as it did for me.

Indeed, I got disconnected much later and it was the "centerpied" disconnect, when I logged back in two achievements popped, and this was one of them.

No idea personally, I got this first time. However the Exotic Gear achievement isn't popping or the Crucible kills atm so....your guess is as good as mine =[

@FLEEBS : try this one : instead of choosing "change of character", use "change of profile". Then choose the same profil. And choose one of your character. It has worked for me for all the achievement I've had so far.

This one was buggy as hell for me too, but it just unlocked (along with Use of Weapons, Lucky 7s and Decryptologist!) after I fully powered off the xbox for 24 hours. The switching character thing wasn't working for me after many attempts, and after yet another run through of the first mars mission, this time scoring 81 precision shots and still no cheevo, I turned it off at the plug, in a mood! Well, it worked laugh

Not sure how good this info is given the glitchy nature of these ones, but I got this doing a patrol and it popped as soon as the 25th head went pop. No need to finish anything but the barber work.

I did "Bane of the Emperor" today 50+ prec.kill, no unlock,
so I did follow the Log-out/change profile as FLEEBS said,
I not only got the Bane the Emperor but 2 other cheevos that were not unlocked for weeks , lol.
They should fix this.

Profile switch worked for me also. Oddly whenever I complete a mission the mission stats always show 0 precision shots even if get single headshot kills with sniper and score shows in yellow (which I understand to be a sign of a headshot). Does this happen for anyone else? It's not affected me being able to get the precision kill headshots but it's a bit weird and irritating.

I'm not too excited about this glitched achievement. I have done Mars missions multiple times (at least 4 times now), got well over 25 precision kills on the Cabal, and no achievement unlock. I read about switching to a different character and waiting until the opening cutscene unlocked, so I thought I'd give that method a try. Thing is, I had three different characters on all three character slots. First was my Warlock (lvl 23), 2nd was my Hunter (lvl 9), and third was my Titan (lvl 9). I understood the fix to mean starting a new character, so I wasn't looking forward to deleting any of my characters, but I went ahead and deleted my Titan. I started a new game, created the character, watched all cutscenes, and no achievement unlock. I even deleted the Titan again, played a Mars mission where I completed 33 precision kills on the Cabal, then created a new Titan and watched cutscenes again. No unlock. I really hope I am not glitched out of this achievement. It surprises me, too, because I wouldn't expect a game as high profile as Destiny to have glithchy achievements. Anybody know any other possible fixes?

@ludo101109: Thanks, ludo. I actually realized that was my problem the other day. Clarification for anyone confused: if your achievement is not unlocking, press the Menu button (the one with the three lines on it; I'll never get why they didn't stick with Start and Back *shakes head*), RB over to settings, highlight Log Out, and choose Switch Profile (not Change Character). This will take you back to the game start screen, and once you press A, it will ask you to choose your Xbox Live profile (this may only happen if you have multiple profiles on your console; I'm not really sure). Choose your profile, and then choose your character from the character select screen. Any achievements that should have been unlocked will then unlock. This approach is said to work 100% of the time, and it has for me. Unfortunately, Smidj is incorrect with the approach he presented above.

So I haven't fought any Cabal yet so my question is do they appear in a Patrol area? The reason i ask is i just got the achievement for 25 headshots on the fallen in one mission without dying just running around in patrol. I think if you activate a mission on patrol and then dont complete the mission and run around snipping it would work.

By the time you meet the cabal you should have 3 of these already.

The same trick applies here. Shoot the enemies in the head, (a little harder with the enemies with the shield). While you have to be in a mission (and not patrolling) you do not have to be in the mission area, if you're having problems doing it during a mission, just find some cabal, head shot those you can, drive away for a bit, come back and they should respawn, and you can kill them again. You do not need to be in a mission only area, just on the way to the mission.

A precision shot is essentially a critical hit, and in this instance requires a killing blow by headshot. If successful the enemy's head will disappear as a wisp of smoke escapes from their body. Cabal enemies are found exclusively on Mars. This can be obtained during any story mission, or while doing a Patrol session. Probably best done with a Hunter using its sniper rifle, both for ease of the headshot itself and for keeping your distance so you won't get killed.

Precision kills on the Cabal require shooting at their tiny turtle-like heads. Legionaries and Psions will be the easiest to kill with precision shots. This will unlock during the mission, so you don’t have to go through the whole thing without dying. Scout rifles, hand cannons, and sniper rifles are the best weapons to use.

The following missions are the ones in which the Cabal appear. Exclusion Zone may be the best to do this, but this can also be done in Patrol missions.

Possible Missions:

Mars:
Exclusion Zone
The Garden’s Spire
The Buried City

Dreadnaught:
The Dreadnaught
Enemy of My Enemy
Outbound Signal
