How to unlock the Hunter Mastery achievement in Destiny - Definitive Guide

This achievement is a long haul, It's taken me a long while to get all 3...and to be honest it can get pretty repetitive/boring as you progress.

All you gotta do is get experience, however there are many ways to do this. In particular I did the whole game solo on hard for every mission. Although tricky, I was able to get bonus amounts of exp, whilst also honing my skills.

You have access to two 'Subclasses' the second of which you'll unlock at lvl 15 (though after doing this for your first character, the other two will be obtainable from the start!). Wait to do this one as you'll already have a lot of progress done for the basic subclass.

ALWAYS have bounties active. I do all story/co-op player ones available for the boost of exp, and it's very high.

Daily challenges are helpful as are weekly ones. You may need a friend or two to help you out.

Strikes are good for exp, but you might wanna get a friend or two to help speed things along. Me and a friend of mine did about 10+ strike playlists on the lvl 24 setting. We also got a lot of currency/nice loot.

You can also trade in stacks of 50x materials (i.e. Spinmetal, Helium, Spirit Blossom or Relic Shards) for a boost of exp, but it will take you a while to amass the needed amount.

The cryptarch at the tower will be your port of call a lot, and as you bring him engrams he'll start levelling your cryptarch lvl. Doing this is easy (I'm as of writing half way through lvl 5) and nets you a big amount of exp.

Hope this helps guys!

Also; for those having trouble unlocking glitchy achievement do this:

Press the Menu button RB over to settings, highlight Log Out and choose Switch Profile (not Change Character). This will take you back to the game start screen, and once you press A, it will ask you to choose your Xbox Live profile.

Choose your profile and then choose your character from the character select screen. Any achievements that should have been unlocked will then unlock.

*Cheers to FLEEBS & ludo10109 for the info

Might be worth noting that if you have a high level friend who is willing to help you out and run you through on the highest difficulty you can do according to your level, you will progress much faster. I don't know if the xp is shared across kills but an extra 1200 or so at the end more than makes up for it.

Do you know if this works for the new subclasses?

I've just fully upgraded the nightstalker subclass (titan is my main), and no achievement has popped. I've done the switch profile trick and nothing as yet?

Finished Nightstalker subclass as well and have yet to receive the achievement. The little profile log out-log in trick did not work for this achievement as well (It had worked for others).

Sedgendary did that work? I too can't get it to pop with a fully upgraded Nightstalker (tried the usual "switch profile").

Don't do nightstalker. It glitched for me as well. Sadly now I have to spend another 5 days ranking up a different hunter subclass.

I was able to get the to pop with little issue upgrading Bladedancer, I would avoid Nightstalker.

I don't believe that you get experience for the Cryptarch and for trading in materials. You DO get reputation (for the Cryptarch and Vanguard/Crucible/Faction, respectively), but I don't think that you get ACTUAL experience...

Im starting to think you can't get this achievement for nightstalker. its probably glitched so badly it doesn't pop for nightstalker. i should have gotten the achievement 2 weeks ago and I tried the switch profile dozens of times yet it still hasn't popped. and yes before you ask the retarded queston my nightstalker IS fully upgraded.

Subclasses unlock at rank 1 (Gunslinger), rank 15 (Bladedancer), and after “The Nightstalker’s Trail” (rank 25 and completion of “The Coming War”). The XP grind will take a long time and you will be above rank 20 by the time you unlock every subclass perk.

The best way to do this is to stick with the initial subclass that you have. Don’t switch to Bladedancer when you unlock and continue doing Missions, Strikes, Raids, Patrols, and Bounties on Gunslinger until you full upgrade it.

The glitch that blocked Nightstalker from counting towards this trophy has been fixed (thanks to Metdevil).

However, there is a shortcut to this trophy, but it can be costly. If you buy the Hunter level 25 rank up shortcut from the PSN Store for $30, included in that is an item that will max out your subclass. This will unlock the trophy (thanks to tuffmuff).
