How to unlock the Triple Play achievement in Destiny - Definitive Guide

DISCLAIMER:- This isn't a guide as such as more of an observation.

So from what I've seen this achievement is semi-glitched the achievement description isn't completely accurate. From all the people i've spoken to who have unlocked this it has only unlocked through using a super ability and getting three kills that way, well at least for a warlock and titan not completely sure about a hunter.

EDITED for posterity: Apparently you can get this achievement as long as it's in the "triple down" time limit which being a Bungie game, I assume is within 4 seconds of each other.

Seriously? Is that why im not getting this achievement? You have to kill all 3 with your super ability without dying?

It works with guns... It just has to be a triple kill with 3 different classes. Can be nova bomb, super gun, shotgun, whatever.

This achievement sucks if it has to be a triple kill, I rarely see Titans in games, let alone ones that are following the other two classes.

Ok, it has to be a triple kill. But can it be ANY triple kill? A triple kill consisting of the 3 classes seems like an extremely rare event without boosting.

Not any triple kill, a triple kill consisting of the 3 classes. Keep your special for an appropriate occasion and good luck. Just got it today on some guys capturing a capture point.

I can confirm you have to get a triple kill, though they don't have to be in the same instant due to a super. I smashed two people, then shot the third, and got a "Triple Down" medal and the achievement. It does have to be all three classes though.

I can provide further clarification. I got mine on Salvage(3v3 game mode). First, I got a triple down by killing two enemies with a super nova, then using the shotgun on the third. This didn't pop the achievement. A friend then used her power and got three kills, and it unlocked. Later in the match, I used super nova again, got all three enemies, and it unlocked. From this I feel it is safe to presume it is either buggy, or needs to be in one attack.

I just got it however I didn't get a medal denoting a triple kill but I got each kill like within a couple of seconds gap. 10th time the charm but it wasn't against each of the three classes and I did it on scavenge I found I got more tripple kills hope this helps :)

Mine popped and I definitely did NOT get a triple down. Mine popped when I was on a killing spree. I had killed 4-5 people already and then I got a double down with my super and it popped. Mine seemed to follow the original description of the achievement.

My buddy had the same situation as me and it popped for him as well.

My guess is that it is supposed to be like the description but is super buggy for everyone.

When I got the achievement to pop, I got a quadruple kill. They weren't all at the exact same time, but one after the other. I'm not entirely sure there was a warlock either but I guess their must have been.

If you want to see the clip of it I can upload to YouTube if you wish.

Assists seem to count as kills in other achievements, so it may be possible to get this achievement without killing one of each class. So long as you get a kill or assist on one of each class within 4 seconds of each other, you theoretically should unlock this.

I doubt Bungie are very concerned about a glitchy achievement. But the only time it popped for me was with a super, and I am pretty sure that it doesn't have to be different classes, just a triple down, maybe not with a super, but for sure a triple down.

I've done every varation people have listed; 3 of each class in a triple down with my Super, 3 of each class in a triple down without the super, 3 of each class + throughout one life. The only variation I have not been able to do is 3 at once, since that's not really possible with the standard Golden Gun. This achievement is crazy frustrating, not at all what the description says.

I also got mine from grenade and auto rifle kills. If the achievement doesn't pop in game, try changing profile (not character).

For Halo players, here is what Bungie call the other multi-kill medals now:
Double Kill = Double Down
Triple Kill = Triple Down
Overkill = Breaker
Killtacular = Slayer
Killtrocity = Reaper
Killimanjaro = Seventh Column

There are currently 72 different Crucible medals (including First Blood), so there are plenty for Bungie to choose from for the DLC achievements. Thankfully there is no equivalent to Killionaire!

So what I noticed when trying to go for it, is that it HAS to be a triple down or more. I got all 3 kills within one life on rumble, but it never seemed to pop. What I did was go play Control (This is what I recommend playing) and I was lucky enough to have 4 enemy players on one flag. I used my Super and got all 4, which was a hunter, warlock and titan. My achievement didn't pop straight away, I had to sign out and sign back in again (I hate that Glitch) and it was there. Anyway here is my video guide for it showing how I did it. Enjoy!

Yeah honestly its pure luck i was in a control match and there was literally 1 second left on the clock i mashed down rb and lb got a triple kill and finally boom the achievement popped instantly i was more shocked than anything but anyone that needs help boosting this achievement or anything else hit me up on xbox one for destiny, Gamertag: AlphaGangsta24 this was the most frustrating and luck based achievements in the games for destiny in my opinion it took me 9 attempts, and in those 9 attempts they were triple downs anyways best of luck to you all, happy achievement hunting.

Play 'Control' on the map 'Shores of time' behind capture point 'A' in the cave there is some rocks you can hide behind, to make sure you dont appear on motion tracker, stay crouched behind the rocks 'only once you have your super move ready to use, in this case i used Titan's super. Wait until you get 3 or more enemy players capturing this point, you can walk up whilst crouched to check, and once ready unleash your super attack... Fingers crossed there is one of each class. When i discovered this it took 2 attempts and on my second i killed a full team of six 'achievement unlocked' hope this helps.

1st attempt: Someone saw me and killed me at the back.
2nd attempt: Saw an enemy capturing A. Then I saw 2/3 more enemies joining the capture.

I slowly crawl to the front and use the titan super. Achevo unlocked immediately. I didn't see a Titan though, Im assuming a triple down via a super? Will check the stats on Bungie.net later

Great guide too

PLAY RUMBLE!!!!!! Have a party of "3" Make sure you have one Warlock, Hunter, and Titan. Now everyone assemble on a part of the map so you 3 meet up. Press the start button at the beginning of the game and go to roster scroll over the name and find out what class the other 3 people are. If you are a titan you need to kill a titan and then your two friends. Same for any class. You can also try sending a party invite to the other 3 randoms and see if one will help out.

This is not so much of a guide as just a helpful hint.

I know there is a lot of talk about this being misleading, glitched or whatever else. However I can CONFIRM that I just unlocked this achievement by KILLING 2 Hunters and a Warlock, and ASSISTING a Titan kill, only using my auto rifle, sniper and a grenade. No special was used. And this was all over the space of about 2-3 minutes without dying.

**Notes:
*I recorded my clip with GameDVR and watched it afterwards. I definitely did not get a Triple Down, in fact I didn't even get a Double Down.
*I also looked up all the names of the players that I killed or assisted in that life on Bungie.net, which allows me to see what class they use, hence how I know what I killed and what I assisted.
*This occurred in my first life of the game (Not sure if this makes a difference or not, but it meant I hadn't died all game when I unlocked it)
*This occurred in a Clash playlist. Again, not sure if this helped trigger it or not, just trying to provide all the details to help others out.
*This proves that Assists count towards the achievement.

For some people this may be glitched and they may have to get it other ways. But this is how I got the achievement, so I'm sure it's possible for others.

If you are going for this legit (i.e. no boosting) then I advise playing as either a Titan (Striker class) or a Warlock (Voidwalker class).

Playing on control or salvage is the way to go primarily because you can adequately deduce enemy locations based on the capture points.

Using a Titan/Warlock's supercharge move basically makes these classes a 1-hit murdering machine. When that is ready, all you need is a bit o' luck regarding who exactly is taking control of a specified point (Is it at least 3 people? Are the different classes? etc etc)

I got this on salvage with my Titan - came in from above with my super while the other team huddled around the relic. They did not see me coming wink.

And I will confirm: you need to get these 3 kills done in succession - within ~4 seconds of one another (i.e. a "Triple" kill). Anything less (as I figured out multiple times) will not net you this achievement.

If you are running a hunter, don't bother with this achievement - it will most likely frustrate the hell out of you. Don't get me wrong - the hunter is my absolute favorite class, and the bladedancer subclass is the best for crowd control, but if you are not fast enough with the super you will just get annoyed chasing this dream.

For example: I was using my bladedancer on Control, and had 4 enemies at point C on earth. I thought "Hell's yeah, bitches! Prepare to get shanked!"

They saw me, and instead of firing they scattered. I got two of them (Titan and Hunter) and as I chased down one of the Warlock's, that tool decides he would rather glide out to his death then fall to my blade. Like an idiot, I tried to chase him off the cliff, and died as well.

So, a word to the wise: just go with the Fist of Havoc or Nova Bomb - it is much, much more difficult for enemies to run from those moves.

Questions, corrections and neg vote justifications below.

The description for this is misleading. You need to kill at least one of each class within I believe 4 seconds. If you succeed, the Trophy will pop right then.

I recommend choosing the Control game mode. Your best chance will be on a small map, not those larger maps where people hop in their Sparrows to get around. You may well get this eventually through normal play, however to increase your chances you should camp near a common flag that your team owns, not moving and out of sight as best you can, and wait to see the flag being taken by the other team. Wait another few seconds to let more of their team arrive, then pop out and drop a super ability on them, and clean up with your shotgun and melee as needed.

If all classes were chosen equally by the other team, I calculate (hopefully correctly!) that the odds of getting this from a triple kill will be 22%, and from a quadruple kill 44% (credit to ElectroSpecter). In practice there are currently fewer Titans than other classes, so the odds will be lower. I don't know the exact ratio of classes chosen, so let's say it might be a ballpark estimate of 1 in 7 to get this from a triple kill. Good luck!

This does involve a lot of luck but I found the 3 vs 3 game modes the best for this trophy. Teams typically stay together in these game modes. Now use a super grenade or heavy weapon to wipe them out quickly. I've had a lot of triple kills this way using the bladedancer subclass for hunter. This is where the luck comes into play and hope that they are all 3 different classes.

So this is why I can't get this one. I was wondering why I couldn't get this trophy even after 7-8 killstreak. 4 seconds ? That's just bullshit. Now I know I won't bother to try to get this one anymore.

Regarding the math: I agree with 22% for triple kill (more accurately, 2/9 chance), but for the quadruple kill, I'm getting 36 desirable combinations out of a total of 81, or 4/9 (44%). I could be wrong.

Also, this is assuming of course that each class is just as likely as another to be picked.

Electro, I just double checked your number of 36/81 desirable combinations in a quadruple kill, and you're right! I wonder what I was doing when I originally got 33% instead of 44.44%. Interesting that it took someone nearly 4 years to notice that. Solution updated accordingly.

Not very hard, but it requires some amount of luck.
The description is misleading, however.
In order to get this achievement, you have to kill all three classes in a triple Down. (Three kills within four seconds of eachother.) However, it does not need to be in one hit. You are able to kill the classes seperately so long as it's within a Triple Down. This is easiest to do on Control. Wait until the opposing team is trying to capture your objective, and unleash your super on them. Warlock can do this easily, but Hunter and titan players will have to get up close.
if the achievement doesn't pop on your first triple Down, keep trying. You can get 5-6 Super attacks in a single control match, but be careful not to waste them.

11 Sep 2014 21:55

I didn't get a Triple Down medal when I got this but the kills were within a few seconds of each other. I've posted a link to the kills that got me the achievement (but it didn't actually pop in the video).

I got a decent number of triple kills before getting this achievement and I got almost all of them while playing control. My recommendation for this is to use your super when the enemy team is taking over a control point (the B points typically seem to be the most contested ones) and go on a rampage. Good timing and a bit of luck get you this achievement.

26 Sep 2014 05:59

I did this on Twilight Gap on Control. At Point B enemies can only approach from the front but can enter the point from the front and sides. Using the Defender subclass of the Titan, drop a shield in the center of the capture point and cap it. Then hope that a group rushes you. The shield gives you extra armor while inside. Melee anyone who steps in and use a gun to kill anyone approaching. Just make sure you back into the shield after each attack. Use the radar to determine which direction new opponents are coming from. I got six guys in a row using melee and my fusion rifle when the achievement popped. Still a bit of luck involved but it's doable.

If you need this achievement still or any other non-quest related multiplayer achievement, you can boost it in private matches.

Get 3 other people for this and make sure they are all different classes. Make a rumble match. Now just find each other and take them all out quickly by any means necessary. Grenades work well or just use a shotgun or anything you have that can kill them fast.

Thanks to the new Rison of Iron update this can easily be boosted by setting up a Private Rumble, invite 3 additional friends with different classes and blow them up with a grenade. Easy.

Ok, just for some clarity from my session I held. Not sure if this is the most efficient way but it will take approximately 20-30mins for 4 people.

This achievement can be obtained with a minimum of 4 gamer tags obviously all running different classes. The two that are the same class can get the achievement in the same game. So if you all have multiple classes you can get this done in 2 games with 4 people.

I tried this in multiple private rumble games with 4 separate accounts. This DID NOT unlock the achievement.

I then tried it in crucible matchmaking last option on the right of screen called iron supremacy which is a 6 player free for all game type. We were searching in matchmaking at 10:30 BST (London) GMT

Luckily no one else was playing at the time so we managed to match all accounts into same game with 4 out of 6. This seemed to be the minimum to load the game. You can see how many guardians are matched on screen. Make sure you are all communicating via chat to make it happen, if not back out and search again.

Basically in game all group up in one area, we used any corner that was available, backed 3 different classes into the corner then used a grenade initially in the middle of the group and finished any surviviors with melees. You should get a triple down message if you managee to string the kills together. The other gamer tag with the same class can then swap. Rinse and repeat in next game.

We did finish the 10 min game to be double sure the game was registered.

My final word of advice is be roughly the same level as one of the accounts was level 12 and would not matchmake at first with levels 40 40 and 29. Luckily they had the spark of light item that boosted them to 40, after visiting tower and activating inventory item. I believe you get this for free as part of the legendary collection.

Also like many other games the achievement did not unlock straight away, I had to sign in under another account in the game and then sign back in under the initial account. Obviously after the game had finished.

It did unlock straight away for 2 out of 4 people.

Hope this helps!

The description for this achievement is a little wonky. What it actually requires is that you achieve a Triple Kill (or higher) with at least one of each enemy type included. You can not simply kill a Titan, then a minute later kill a Hunter, then a minute later kill a Warlock without dying in between. They must die within a few second of each other to get the Triple Down medal. However, much like the 100 kills achievement, assists are counted in that equation so you could actually only get two of the kills while a teammate gets the third (so long as you hit that third person).

Control or Salvage matches will likely be your best bet of unlocking this. While a group of enemies attempts to take over a ring, use a rocket launcher or your special ability to inflict massive AOE damage. Throw a grenade in just before for good measure, and come out of it firing on anyone still around.

Like with all Crucible trophies, you must be Level 5 before you can access the PvP modes. This is the hardest Crucible trophy in the game. It requires a combination of luck and skill. You must kill a Hunter, Titan, and Warlock in quick succession in a single life. There are multiple ways to do this. You can use Super abilities. Stormcaller (Warlock), Sunbreaker (Titan), Striker (Titan), Gunslinger (Hunter), and Bladedancer (Hunter) are the best options for this. Stormcaller might be the best choice because of how long it lasts (Transcendence perk extends it even longer) and its range. Striker and Bladedancer are more situational and you need to pick your spots (heavy ammo box, control point, relic in Salvage). Gunslinger is situational as well and requires accuracy.

Fortunately, this can be boosted in private matches. Get three friends and have them play as different classes. Line them up and quickly kill them.
