How to unlock the Valorous achievement in Destiny - Definitive Guide

Public events on Earth is the fastest way to do this. Go to Earth and go to Patrol. You get four marks per event completed. It is possible to get sixteen Vanguard Marks per hour using this system. At X:00 and X:30 the public event at the Mothyards can be completed. At X:15 and X:45 the public event at The Divide can be completed. Move from one to the other every fifteen minutes to catch each event. Repeat as necessary.

The new way to do this (full credit goes to BladeOfArchon) is to simply get to Rank 1 with the Vanguard.

Used this last night, works exactly as described. One note: if you finish the events quickly, you can (sometimes) catch the event in the Steppes (the area where you spawn) as you travel between Mothyards and the Divide.

MORBSTA - 1) you have to do 100 in a week's time, not total. 2) you may need to go to settings in game, log out > switch profile, then choose your gamertag again. This is because the achieves are glitched.

FYI, today the events stopped happening on Earth midway through the day. Weird.

maybe they have learnt! saw this a week ago on another site.. definately the most effecient.. the guy gave a map and also times for rarer public events so you can sometimes get 4-6 events per hour. roughly 20 points a hour.
this is also great for gaining legendary gear once you wear faction item

You may want to add that when you spawn, go right, to the building with the staircase to head towards The Divide, and go left past the tunnel/drian thing towards the wrecked plains to be in the Mothyards.

Thanks for the times and locations though. Game needs a map.

Upon reaching Level 18 you unlock the ability to gain vanguard and crucible marks.

The maximum weekly score is 100 (same for crucible marks).

Vanguard marks are unlocked in the following 'missions':

Daily Heroic Story, Level 20 Story, Rewards: +5 Vanguard Marks

Strike Playlist;
Level 20 Strike, Rewards +2 Vanguard Marks
Level 22 Strike, Rewards +3 Vanguard Marks
Level 24 Strike, Rewards +6 Vanguard Marks

Weekly Heroic Strike;
Level 22 Strike, Rewards +3 Vanguard Marks
Level 26 Strike, Rewards +6 Vanguard Marks
Level 28 Strike, Rewards +10 Vanguard Marks

Public Events, +4 Vanguard Marks per completion and +2 Vanguard Marks for first daily completion from postmaster.

Converting 50 materials, +5 Vanguard Marks (Foxfire49)
I really recommend not converting your materials as you need them to upgrade legendary and exotic gear so for only 5 marks it really isn't worth it.

Weekly Reset occurs Tuesdays.

Personally I find the fastest way is to play the level 24 strike playlist as I get through each one in 15 - 20 minutes, pairing that with the weekly strike, daily story and public events will achieve this in no time.

I can confirm +2 daily when completing your first daily event. This is of course after you open up the mark at level 18. Also seems like there is confusion in the comments... level 20 is a soft lvl cap, so the tougher strike missions are in some cases gated by light... something you find on high lvl gear. To open or become more effective in the tougher strikes you need gear from the lower lvl vanguard strikes first.

I'll make sure to check bounties and update with info on those today I hope.

The public event I'm not sure on I did gold the one I got mine for and it would make sense given the fact the reward (you pick the marks up from the postmaster) says for completing the event but I'm not really sure =/

Hopefully someone can clear that up soon.

If anyone is interested in possibly doing the Weekly Heroic Strike or just grinding a few lvl 20 (Vanguard Viper) strikes from the Vanguard playlist, shoot me a message! Currently flyin' solo and would like to put in some work! All I ask is that you have a mic and are willing to communicate. If I didn't want to coordinate I would play with randoms. Happy hunting!

Bounty does not contribute just double checked. (unless there are some that do but at this point they appear to not) I think I might have traded in spinmetal for some marks and that is what got me the extra ones I'm not sure about.

Also not sure if it was via something else or what but just beat devil walker public and it gave me +4 marks when I finished it (with gold). I don't know why I did as I don't recall that happening before or maybe I just missed it but if someone who has managed more public events, specifically the devil walker can confirm/deny that you get an extra four for certain things or whatever would be a help.

Just a suggestion but you might also note you can get +5 vanguard or crucible marks by turning in a stack of 50 materials to either the vanguard armoror for vanguard marks or the crucible armoror for crucible marks. Turned in 150 of those helium filaments yesterday and got 15 vanguard marks.

I'm not 100% sure what the person above me means? You have to be level 18 to earn marks which is stated, it then lists possible ways to earn marks when you hit level 18.

If you haven't reached level 18 you wont be able to earn them i don't understand how it's not friendly to those below level 18 unless I'm entirely missing something here?

Could you explain that?

I did a bounty on Earth and received Vanguard Marks.
It was a rare bounty, where you have to kill a target. I was directed all the way back to the starting area.
Bounty Giver: "...Get him before he gets you.". If you hear something along the lines of that, then you might have the bounty.

I also started the bounty at a beacon in the first spawn area.

Hi,

So, as long as I reach 100 Vanguard Marks, the achievement unlocks no matter if I earned them in more than a week?

Example: I gather 100 vanguard marks in 9 days, 10 days, etc... more than a week.
Does the achievement still unlock this way, or it needs to be within a single week (7 days)?

Would you please clarify this for me? Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure that you have to earn the 100 in a week. I'm unsure of the timeframe but I'll update once my counter gets reset. As far as I'm aware this isn't shared across multiple characters so you can in theory earn 300 a week across the three slots available.

I am sure I also got 2 marks for completing a public event today. I got them in the beta too but obviously it only grants it for the first one you complete daily so you could get an extra 2 a day via public events if you encounter one.

I'm not entirely sure but bounties may grant some also. As i had 2 from the public event, I got 5 from the heroic story mentioned above giving me 7 but I'm currently sitting on 11 and the only thing I did outside of those things was patrol and work through some bounties.

Obviously I can't prove this as of yet but if someone else could confirm or deny it would be a help.

When in orbit go to "select destination"...on the lower right are "Vanguard" and "Crucible" with a shield and crossed swords. There is a ring around the shield and crossed swords that increases as you gain marks. Blue is Vanguard marks, Red is Crucible.

This trophy will unlock once you earn the maximum of 100 Vanguard Marks in a week. (Marks reset on Tuesdays.) Marks can be earned in a variety of ways:

* Daily Heroic Story missions (5 marks)
* Weekly Heroic Strikes (3 marks)
* The Vanguard Strike playlist (2, 3, or 6 marks depending on difficulty)
* Completing Public Events on planets (2, 3, or 4 marks depending on final rating)
* Collecting your daily reward for a gold-rank Public Event (from the Postmaster in the Tower) will also grant your character a few marks.

It is currently possible to farm Patrol Cosmodrome (on Earth) to collect the weekly maximum in a few hours:

* A walker will drop in The Divide at quarter past the hour and quarter of the hour (XX:15 and XX:45), though sometimes it appears a few minutes early or late.
* A random mission (Warsat defense, Priority Target kill, or crew elimination) will appear in the Mothyards at the top and bottom of the hour (XX:00 and XX:30), though it may be a few minutes early or late.
* Between these times, there is a chance (though not guaranteed) that a Public Event will spawn in The Steppes.

At 16 marks per hour (more if the rare events spawn), 100 marks can be achieved in just over 5 hours.

Vanguard and Crucible marks are being removed for all players when The Taken King releases. This won't inhibit players' ability to gain all Trophies/Achievements.
The unlocks for these Trophies/Achievements are being changed to the following:

Valorous: Earn reputation rank 1 in Vanguard
Notorious: Earn reputation rank 1 in Crucible

All previously held Vanguard and Crucible marks will be converted to their respective commendations on 9/15/15 with the release of The Taken King.
If you have already earned these Trophies/Achievements they will remain unlocked. No further action is required.

Just get vandguard to level 1

To earn this trophy, you must earn a total of 100 Vanguard Marks in one week. Vanguard Marks are given as rewards for completing Strikes and higher difficulty missions. Vanguard Marks can be used to purchase Legendary gear at the Tower.

To check your current weekly amount, simply check under the Strike playlist (to the left of the Crucible playlist). In the bottom left corner, there will be a Vanguard symbol with a number underneath. This number indicates the total Vanguard Marks you've earned that current week.

Yes, this achievement is still obtainable, and here's how.

With the recent release of The Taken King, Crucible/Vanguard Marks have been eliminated and with it the weekly limits. Because of this, Bungie has changed the requirements of the achievement to simply reach Level 1 with the respective faction.

In short, the new requirements to unlock this are to reach level 1 in the Vanguard. Bounties, quests, and patrol missions will get this unlocked for you soon enough.

Here's the link to the post detailing this change: https://www.bungie.net/7_TrophiesAchievements-Valorous-and-N...

With the release of The Taken King Expansion this trophy's requirements has changed. It's now required to get rank 1 in Vanguard. This can be accomplished many ways including turning in vanguard bounties, doing patrol missions, and doing various strikes.

Your Vanguard rank is increased through their specific Bounties (50-100 rep each), Patrol missions (10-25 rep each), and completing Strikes within the playlists (10-25 rep each). You need a total of 1,500 rep to reach Rank 1.

The Vanguard score is actually the marks you can earn from Strikes, Public Events, and material exchanges. You can only earn 100 marks per week, and can track your progress at the Legend online. You need to be at least Level 18 to start earning marks, though you will not receive marks as a reward from Strikes until Level 20. Here are all the ways to earn marks:

  • Level 20 Strike - 2 Marks
  • Level 22 Strike - 3 Marks
  • Level 24 Strike - 6 Marks
  • Level 22 Heroic Strike - 3 Marks
  • Level 26 Heroic Strike - 6 Marks
  • Level 28 Heroic Strike - 9 Marks
  • Material Exchange - 5 Marks
  • Public Event Gold Rating - 4 Marks
  • Daily Heroic Mission - 5 Marks

I would advise against the material exchange, simply because it takes forever to farm the materials and they are much better used for upgrading gear later on in the game.

It is possible to max out your marks in four hours farming the various Public Events on Earth. You'll have to be quick and hit multiple events one after the other. See this post on Reddit for how.

Vanguard score is reset every week on Tuesdays at 2am PST/5am EST/9am GMT, so if you're not very close on Monday night you may be better served working on something else if you don't think you'll make it.

You will need 1,500 Vanguard points to reach Rank 1. Vanguard reputation unlocks with the quests for bounties at patrols at Level 5. Completing missions, strikes, patrols, daily bounties, and quests all contribute Vanguard points. Some class items will have a perk that increases your Vanguard reputation gains.

The “Taken Spring” update (April 12, 2016) includes Vanguard boosters that can be acquired in Sterling Treasure packages or in Vanguard packages. These will increase the reputation gains in strikes for 2 hours.

Reputation gains as of April 12, 2016:

  • Vanguard bounties: 50 or 65 per bounty.
  • Patrol missions:
    • Scouting, VIP, Energy Bursts, Taken Blights and Surveys – 50
    • Kill enemies and Kill and Collect – 40
  • Vanguard Heroic Strike (Level 41): 120
  • Vanguard Strike (Level 36): 40
  • Legacy Strike (Level 20 or below): 40
  • Nightfall (Light Level 320): 500
