How to unlock the Excessive Force achievement in Destiny - Definitive Guide

Excessive Force

Pre-Requirement from FIASCOcomedy: Cant access crucible til level 4. You also cant access Heavy Weapons until you have access to one in game, (After the 4th mission you get one from the Gunsmith in the Tower). . .

This is actually extremely easy, when playing PVP you will start with no heavy ammo, but listen to the announcer and he will announce when heavy weapon ammo drops.

Look for a purple ammo icon and run to grab it, be quick because you are fighting to get it. Once you pick up heavy weapon ammo, hold the Y button to swap to your heavy weapon.

Enemy steal your ammo? Kill then and grab it for yourself, it will be a purple cube on the ground.

All 25 kills do not have to be in 1 match, it is cumulative.

Good luck and have fun! I really enjoyed using my heavy weapon!

Does the 25 kills have to be in one game or over multiple games.

May want to add this to the solution: Cant access crucible til level 4. You also cant access Heavy Weapons until you have access to one in game, (After the 4th mission you get one from the Gunsmith in the Tower). . .

I'm glitched as well, unless swords don't actually count toward this particular achievo. According to Bungie's stats I have 1 RL kill and 28 sword kills in the Heavy Weapon bracket.

Could you update that this does not have to be Consecutive kills in a match. That's what I was understanding but the comments solved that problem. Great solution Up vote earned.

So I was boosting Relic Hunter for myself and I had to do the log out, log back in method to cause it to pop. In doing that, this achievement popped too. I dont remember getting 25 kills, maybe they are just handin out freebies now lol

If anyone is looking to see how many HW kills you have in Crucible, go to destinytracker.com. Put in your gamer tag and click on Crucible. About halfway down the page on the left, you should see a weapon breakdown showing you number of kills by weapon, NOT weapon type. Hope this helps for those who, like me, did not know where they were in the total numbers.

I would advise to play either Mayhem Rumble or Mayhem Clash since they have faster heavy ammo spawn rates if you want to boost through the achievement.

Getting this trophy isn't inherently hard, though heavy ammo can be scarce in online matches.

Barring an exceptional rocket launcher such as the Gjallajorn which splits up and homes in on multiple targets, I prefer to use a machine gun for the precision damage. This can allow you to get far more kills in most situations with a single Heavy Ammo pick up.

At regular intervals during a match, the Lord Shaxx (the announcer) will say something along the lines of "Heavy ammo inbound". This is your cue to get ready. Heavy ammo will shortly spawn at several locations across the map, but they always spawn in the same location. Once you know where these locations are, it should be easier to get the ammo. Get there, open the chest and collect the ammo. If you have multiple teammates near the chest, ammo will spawn for all of them, so it's generally considered polite to wait a moment to make sure that nobody else is making towards you to get ammo before you open up.

Alternatively, you may be able to collect heavy from enemies who are carrying it. This tends to be pretty unlikely as it gets used up fast, so don't bank on this. Getting it from chests is much more reliable.

Simply use your heavy weapons to get 25 kills total across all of your matches to unlock this trophy.

Heavy weapon ammo in the PVP matches will spawn after four minutes. You do not start matches with any ammo for your heavy weapons. Once it spawns, you'll have to successfully loot it, or kill someone who did and take it from them. The 25 kills required is cumulative across all your Crucible matches, so work on it while you go for 100 kills of each enemy type.

This is a competitive multiplayer trophy (PvP). Heavy ammo only appears once in most crucible game types in two specific locations on each map. You will get a 15 second warning that heavy ammo is about to arrive. Control, Clash, Rift, Salvage, Skirmish, and Rumble all will spawn heavy ammo 5 minutes into the match. In Elimination, the heavy ammo will appear after one team wins three rounds. This will take multiple matches.

The quickest way to get this now is to play either Mayhem Clash or Mayhem Rumble. Instead of only 5 minutes into the match, heavy ammo will spawn every 2 minutes in Mayhem. However, Mayhem is a weekly crucible playlist and is not always available.

This can be boosted in private matches with one other person. Any game mode will give plenty of heavy to 25 kills in one or two matches. Using a sword will save ammo since it is a one hit kill.
