How to unlock the Notorious achievement in Destiny - Definitive Guide
Edit September 20th 2015: According to Dark2099:
There are no more crucible specific marks, and this now simply requires hitting rank 1 with the crucible reputation.
Once you hit level 18 you get points towards you Crucible score. These points you can use to get legendary gear in the city.
The maximum you can get in a week is 100 so once you hit that you obtain this achievement and cannot obtain Crucible points until its a new week.
When you win a match you get 3 points, 2 points when you lose a match.
If it doesn't unlock, try logging in then out.
The Cap will reset every Tuesday 2:00 AM US PST
Note: If you do not make it to 100 you have to start from 0 again and get to 100..
The unlocks for these Trophies/Achievements are being changed to the following:
Valorous: Earn reputation rank 1 in Vanguard
Notorious: Earn reputation rank 1 in Crucible
All previously held Vanguard and Crucible marks will be converted to their respective commendations on 9/15/15 with the release of The Taken King.
If you have already earned these Trophies/Achievements they will remain unlocked. No further action is required.
I would recommend playing in Control if you are not confident in your PvP abilities, since deaths have a lesser effect on the outcome than in Deathmatches, and you're likely to be teamed up with halfway decent players.
With the recent release of The Taken King, Crucible/Vanguard Marks have been eliminated and with it the weekly limits. Because of this, Bungie has changed the requirements of the achievement to simply reach Level 1 with the respective faction.
In short, the new requirements to unlock this are to reach level 1 in the Crucible. Bounties, quests, and regularly playing matches will get this unlocked for you soon enough.
Here's the link to the post detailing this change: https://www.bungie.net/7_TrophiesAchievements-Valorous-and-N...
To check your current weekly amount, simply check under the Crucible playlist. In the bottom left corner, there will be a Crucible symbol with a number underneath. This number indicates the total Crucible Marks you've earned that current week.
Similar to the Vanguard marks, Crucible marks can not be earned until Level 18. However, these are much easier to acquire. You will receive three marks for every win in the Crucible and 2 marks for every loss. Simply play the PVP for a while and you'll max it out, win or lose.
Your Crucible rank is increased through their specific Bounties (50-100 rep each) and completing matches (10 for a loss/25 for a win) in any of the various PVP game types. You need a total of 1,500 rep to reach Rank 1.
Crucible score is reset every week on Tuesdays at 2am PST/5am EST/9am GMT, so if you're not very close on Monday night you may be better served working on something else if you don't think you'll make it.
You will need 1,500 Crucible points to reach Rank 1. Crucible reputation unlocks with the acquisition of the Crucible quest from Shaxx at Level 5. Completing daily bounties and matches will contribute to your total. Some class items will have a perk that increases your Crucible reputation gains.
The “Taken Spring” update (April 12, 2016) includes Vanguard boosters that can be acquired in Sterling Treasure packages or in Crucible packages. These will increase the reputation gains in Crucible matches for 2 hours.
Reputation gains as of April 12, 2016:
- Daily Crucible bounties: 50
- Weekly Crucible bounties: 75 or 200
- Completing a match: 90
- Winning a match: 108
