After the first mission you get access to upgrades in the mothership. Just buy one for Crypto, to unlock the achievement.

Here is my 100% Achievement guide and full walkthrough so you don't miss a thing.
Technically unmissable.
After Level 1, we go back on the mothership and can now upgrade crypto.
I chose the zap o matic but of course you can Choose literally any single one to upgrade and it will unlock this achievement.

Complete the challenge with at least one star and return to the mothership. assuming you brought an Saucer upgrade first time, buy and Zap-o-matic upgrade from Crypto's upgrades to unlock this trophy.
Do it the opposite way around if you decided to upgrade your gun first.
