How to unlock the The Desk Job achievement in DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION - Definitive Guide

I actualy got this first time but dont know if it was a fluke or not. I played out Wayne Haas with PLEAD PLEAD PLEAD CRUSH then he let me go through and pop 15G. As I said, may have been just luck but my only advice is to save just before you talk to him and reload if it doesn't work. What have you to lose lol takes about a min or so for this exchange. Easy cheevo's. Good luck.

I like how dynamic the game is. I got is with PLEAD PLEAD PLEAD ABSOLVE. Basically I kept with PLEAD until the character says "I need to hear you say it wasn't my fault", and that was the option for ABSOLVE.

I got this on the first try, without the Social Enhancer augmentation, starting with plead, then using absolve, absolve, absolve. Seems like there are several different successful paths to this.

**Spoilers, obviously**

After completing the Sarif plant and talking with Mr. Sarif, you will be asked to go to the morgue at the police station. In the lobby you can talk to Wayne Haas, who you must convince to let you into the station.
There are multiple approaches to this situation. If you have no upgrades invested in social augmentations, this is still possible going with absolving/pleading speech options.
Make a save just before talking to Haas so that in the event you screw up, you can start over from the beginning. There are different reports as to just how he will react to your speech, with some speculation as to this whole scenario having semi-random outcomes. But sticking with the absolve options I was able to get this my first try.

Below is a Youtube of the actual scene to give you an idea of what to expect. Obviously, spoilers if you have yet to reach this part of the game.

The social aug makes this much easier - you can blackmail him after about 3 options.

None of the others worked for me, In the end it came down to listening to what he was saying and hammering him because of his past.

What ever way you go start with Plead off the bat, then whenever he was done taking use the response that would fully blame him for what happened. Crush for the other answers in my case.

His dialogue changed over the many attempts I took to do this, it's not random as others suggest you just need to aggravate him not placate him. If he says all he want is for you to admit it do not , tell him it was all his fault, as tempting as it his to cool him down.

Using all plead or crush etc and getting this is luck form my experience. My solution should take some of the luck in getting it out of the equation for some I hope.

The Desk Job-
Convinced Wayne Haas to let you into the morgue

During the quest where you need to get into the police station morgue, as you enter the lobby there is a guard behind a window at the reception desk. You have history with this character, and can attempt to convince him to allow you access to the morgue.
I had the social augmentation, which gives you extra monitoring/influence options when talking with NPC's. I used the pheremone ability after determining he was a Beta personality to blackmail him into giving me access. This appears to have negative social consequences as he will not speak to me anymore. Another option would be to continue the discussion track, using the absolution path which may get you the access, without alienating the character.

*Save*

As you have to come to the station to get to the morgue for your main mission, so this is the time to obtain this achievement. It also helps with the 'Motherly Ties' and 'Sentimental Value' achievements. Seeing as if you enter anywhere without speaking to Wayne first and him letting you in, the police in the area will go hostile.

As you enter the police station head to the front desk and make your save here. Now speak to your old friend Wayne Haas. You and him go way back but he has some demons haunting him that are stopping him from letting you inside. While talking to him choose the following dialogue options:

  • Absolve
  • Absolve
  • Plead
  • Absolve

In some cases, you can choose Absolve for all. If it doesn't unlock the first time try this route.

Missable! Wayne Haas is the Desk Sergeant in the Police Precinct. Convincing him to grant you access is 1 of 3 possible routes that you can take to complete the 2nd Story Mission: M5 - Investigating the Suicide Terrorist.

Head to the Police Precinct, speak with him for a Social Battle. Win and this will grant you safe access inside and the trophy.

The correct sequence varies depending on your playstyle. Possible answers are:

  • Absolve, Plead, Absolve, and Absolve
  • Absolve, Plead, Absolve, and Plead
  • Absolve, Crush, Absolve, and Absolve
  • Crush, Crush, Crush, Absolve

In a conversation with Wayne, I chose the option to forgive and in the end he agreed to let me through

At the “real DEUS EX” level, my conversation order was as follows: forgive, beg, forgive, forgive.

Jensen's ex-comrade is a nervous person, which means the main option in the conversation will be “forgive.” At least I constructed phrases #1 and ##3-4 that way, and was allowed into the precinct.
