How to unlock the Ashes to Ashes achievement in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - Definitive Guide

In order to reach the point where you can work towards this achievement, you will have become quite proficient in Breach Mode. So, this guide is not going to dwell on the basics of reading maps and clearing servers. There are many different viable approaches. I have outlined my strategies in guides for the Data Disciple, Expert, & Master achievements. Moreover, I have an in-depth video guide for the Data Detective achievement that illustrates the tactics and strategies that I used throughout Breach including Breach Mode for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

In order to unlock the Santeau Darknet File (the fourth Darknet file), you must first complete the third Darknet File. The Prime Unit in the final third Darknet File has Titan armor. Though not invincible, if activated, it prolongs the battle and there is a very short time limit. I cloaked immediately to avoid detection and stunned him with the stun rifle before he activated his armor. While stunned, he quickly succumbed to an A Class 10 mm pistol with standard rounds. I had to stun him a couple more times between pistol volleys to keep him incapacitated. This is not the only way to defeat him, naturally, but my weapons of choice throughout Breach Mode were stun rifle and 10 mm pistol with standard and EMP ammo.

It helps to work on or complete the below achievement before the Santeau Darknet file. The expansion items you get by doing so level your avatar up by an order of magnitude. The six expansion items I got for the achievement increase my avatar's HP by plus 450 HP and plus 150 energy. This permanent (so long as the expansion items are in your loadout) increase to energy and HP make it a lot easier to get all achievements for this DLC. WhiterValkyrie has a good guide that helped me figure out how to get the achievement:

Deus Ex: Mankind DividedExcess Baggage FeesThe Excess Baggage Fees achievement in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided worth 124 pointsBreach: Complete a server using 6 Expansion Items at once.

The principles you have employed to get to the fourth Darknet file will enable you to clear them. One of the files, DF1_CAISSON, has an extreme HP static burn when you are standing still so your approach should be to stay constantly on the move. You can get most of the fragments by avoiding enemies. Where you are exposed, cloak and focus will help you get by. All the Santeau Darknet feature an abyss so, once you meet the conditions to clear the server, you can jump into the abyss to respawn at the exit point. The achievement unlocks following the customary Picus newscast at the end of the file. The Darknet servers in this file are as follows:

DF1_CAISSON
DF2_CAISSON
DF3_REBAR
DF4_CAISSON
DF5_CAISSON

Edited to add: There have been a couple of comments about clearing DF5_CLAYMORE in the third Darknet file. Below is a video solution of how to clear it. I get a little distracted making these videos (I'm still not very good at making them) and am embarrassed to point out that I missed one of the 10 fragments on the top floor. The fragment is in plain sight and easy to pick up. Although I miss it, there are more fragments than the 22 required to clear the server so the server objective was still met):

Although DF5_CLAYMORE is not in the Santeau Darknet file, it must be cleared as one of the steps to clear the third Darknet file that must be completed in order to unlock the Santeau Darknet file. I have provided some additional information on how to clear DF5_CLAYMORE in the below comments.

Any tips for Tarvos Security DF5_Claymore located in Tier 3? Collecting 22 Fragments seems impossible with that health bleed and way too strong enemies on that server.

AI Status is v5, v8 and v5.5 and I also have no clue how to get these Nuke Viruses in-order to downgrade them.

Edit: I just ran through it with 11 Biocell's and a coupple Hypo Stim's. I don't get it... I searched the whole map and collected every fragment and Data Tower I've seen and that still wasn't enough to complete the mission.

What am I missing? Good thing that I wasted 11 Biocells, right?

Dude you are fucking amazing.

Writing this detailed solution, capturing a video for me and even messaging me additional details.

Guess I will have to grind some dummy account challenges then. Thank you so much for the answers.

If you're stuck on DF3_REBAR, take a close look at the level maps before you enter. Make note of all the data stores. When you enter the server, you will not be able to see them all because some are hidden behind breakable walls. I used the vision augment extensively while scouting to find them all and then disabled it once I'd finished my scouting.

When you play, time is not much of a factor so you can be methodical. It's a little easier if you have the augment that allows you to hack open lockdown doors. Right when you start, there's a breakable wall that leads to a ledge and a hidden data store. You can then collect all servers on that level. Once you have done so, there's another breakable wall on the far side of the level from where you started. That leads to a ledge and a broken stairway you can leap across. Jumping across and going up the broken staircase to the next level proceed across it while avoiding detection. On the far side, there are a couple of data stores (you'll probably want to EMP zap a couple of turrets and a flying enemy) and a ladder up to the top. On the way up, there is one more hidden store behind a breakable wall and a data store at the top. If you have made note of the servers when looking at the map before you entered, you should have enough data to meet the requirement. Jump into the abyss to respawn at the exit point for a completion.

The enemies are of little consequence. I stunned robots with a stun rifle, took out guards with takedowns, and zapped turrets and a flying enemy with a class A 10mm pistol using EMP ammo. Of course, I evaded whenever possible and engaged only when necessary.

Absolutely. Enemies cannot lock on to you readily when you use focus. So, whereas cloak relies on you being undetected, focus is of value whether or not you are detected.

Practice the top floor and the bottom floor separately. You should be able to get the 10 fragments on the top floor easily by stunning the robot with a stun gun and disabling the turret (and, optionally) the flying enemy with a 10mm pistol EMP round. You may want to destroy the flying enemy. Go up the left side and back the other side. Refresh the stun on the robot so it won't interfere . Open the server blocks near the entry point. There are two robots in the bottom. Stun them both and collect 10 fragments. They are easy to find. There are three more fragments that are harder to find. If you have difficulty seeing them all, do a scout mission with the Smart_Vision augment. At the start point, when you turn left and hack the server blocks to lower them, stand on the lowered server blocks and turn left. Jump on top of the permanent blocks. There's a tunnel with glass sides. Inside that tunnel are three fragments. Refresh the stuns on the robots, as necessary, and take your time. When you have at least 22 fragments, return to the exit point.

I must add that I did this after getting the excess baggage achievement. I have one S, two A, and one B expandHP kits for a total of plus 450 HP. That more than takes care of the burn. If you are having difficulty, use an S or A HP multiplier or up cheat. However, do not use the cheat until you have practiced the top and bottom floors separately and are confident that you can move through them crisply collecting the 22 fragments. Otherwise, you will just waste the cheat.

I do the top floor first, lower the server blocks close to the entry point and get the three fragments in the tunnel, and then do the bottom floor. You do not necessarily have to do them in that order.

If you are quick and efficient, you can ignore the flying enemy on the top floor. It takes a while to detect you especially if you cloak at appropriate places. If it does detect you, EMP and/or destroy it.

As a final comment, I don't know your style of play and there are many valid approaches. I have used Class A or B stun rifles and 10mm pistols throughout all four tiers. This data detective video guide provides a good illustration of the techniques I use.

@https://www.trueachievements.com/AkaiGAF.htm, I've been doing some MAFIA III video guides. Since I was all set up, I thought I'd swap out disks and do a quick video of DF5_CLAYMORE. I'm a little bit out of practice so it wasn't as smooth as I would have liked. Also, I'm trying to conserve my EMP 10mm pistol ammo so I used a machine pistol instead with EMP ammo. You'll notice the flying enemy on the top floor just as I complete it and head back to the start point. I just ignore it taking some damage but resulting in a faster finish. Here's the video. It's a straight capture without commentary:

The key to DF5_Caisson is to get up top quickly. That's where the big (20) data stores are. You'll see some tall structures in the middle. You can get on top of them without being detected and then jump on one of the long walkways to a 20 data store. Once you get to the first one, you have two choices. You can make your way directly to a second long walkway which is faster or riskier. What I did was the longer, less risky way. I jumped into the abyss, respawned at the breach point. and repeated my original route except that I went to a different long walkway.

There is no HP burn for DF5_Caisson. The only server with a burn is DF1_Caisson. It's a static burn so it only depletes HP when standing still. This is how I did it after scouting the structures a few times. I jumped off to the left to a low landing with two fragments and immediately proceeded jumping to a second landing with two fragments. Turned around and headed back to the ladders climbing up to where I started. I jumped on top of a structure with a fragment and then jumped down going under a similar structure with a fragment. I proceeded forward picking up fragments and turned around a corner picking up fragments. I retraced my steps, taking a left turn towards a turret picking up fragments while cloaked for a couple of seconds, jumped over a bannister and pressed a button to create a walkway under four fragments that had been in mid-air. I never stopped but moved until the walkway spawned then crossed it cloaking and uncloaking to prevent enemies from locking on. I climbed up a ladder (with fragments) towards the entry point and cloaked through lasers under the structure I'd previously jumped on top of to collect a fragment. There were two fragments under the structure that brought my total to 18. I then turned around quickly, jumped down to the bottom of the ladder I'd just climbed up and continued diagonally across the open area using focus sporadically to keep the enemies from locking on to me. I jumped on top of a structure at the end to collect my 19th fragment, turned left and jumped on top of a structure for my 20th fragment. I then jumped into the abyss and respawned at the entry point to complete the server.

A couple of comments. I got the 6 enhancer items for the excess baggage achievement. They included 1S, 1A, & 2B HP enhancers for +400 HP and 1A & 1B energy enhancers for +150 energy. The extra HP and energy helped a lot. Second, I put cloak on cn_LB so I could easily cloak and uncloak while moving to conserve energy.

So, watched a few speedruns on this one. I hadn't touched or upgraded my health so I needed something fast.

Turns out that one upgrade to focus and 3 biocells is all it took for the first try. The focus slows down all responses, but let's you move at a decent pace relative to everyone else.

Do I get a thumbs up for my solution? wave BTW, I see you're playing Mafia III. That's what I'm working on right now. I'm new to video solutions and am still not very good. I also find it a little distracting. You may have noticed that I missed one of the ten fragments on the top floor of the above video solution and all ten fragments are in plain view and easy to get. It wasn't a big deal because there are more than the required 22 fragments but I was a little embarrassed.

But I'm trying to get better. I hope my many Mafia III video solutions show a gradual improvement. I am particularly proud of this solution that gives people who have trouble making headshots an alternative way to get the achievement:

Solution for Recruited to 5th SFG In Mafia III: Definitive Edition

For this DLC, the Excess Baggage achievement is a real pain. You have to do some grinding. However, the expansion items you get doing the achievement are invaluable. They provide a permanent increase to either your HP or energy so long as you carry them in your loadout. That's why I could ignore the flying enemy and shrug off the not insubstantial damage it inflicted. My regular health is 150. With the four HP expansion items, it is 600--four times normal. I also have two energy expansion items for +150 energy.

So, you don't actually have to complete DF5_CAISSON if you refuse your client's request after DF4_CAISSON. Shadowchild compliments you for doing so, actually.

For people who aren't that far into this Darknet file, that should help. DF5_CAISSON still unlocks as a playable map even if you refuse to do it for the Darknet file, and as you can see, you do still get the achievement.

It's not much of a time-save, but if you really want to keep your Breach playtime as minimum as possible, it's something that could help.

As part of the Tier 4 update a new Darknet File has been added. If you haven’t completed all previous Darknet Files from the main game, you will have to complete these before you can attempt this one, it will automatically unlock once you have done so.

This Darknet files works in the exact same way as the others, however one important note is that once you are conversing with the client near the end of the file, he will ask you to steal money from a bank, ensure you ACCEPT his proposal and keep the money afterwards, you will end up with a whopping 500,000 credits which will help greatly with Excess Baggage Fees.

Before you can begin working on the new Santeau Darknet File, you must first complete all three previous Darknet Files from the base game. The Darknet servers in this new file are as follows:

  • DF1_CAISSON
  • DF2_CAISSON
  • DF3_REBAR
  • DF4_CAISSON
  • DF5_CAISSON

Naturally, these servers are a little more complicated than those that came before, so if you're struggling right off the bat and need to grind out credits for more ammo/Booster Parks, or XP for stronger and more diverse augmentations, please refer below to "Excess Baggage Fees" for more information. Not only will the credit farming method transcribed there help net better items, but you will level up a decent amount and also unlock Expansion Items, which help boost your core HP and Energy stats when equipped in your loadout.

All in all, the objectives in each server are fairly straightforward and you should have no problem completing them with enough patience. As noted in the solution for "Hourglass," each Santeau server has a bottomless abyss, so you can always fall to your death after collecting the data fragments/downloading the data in order to respawn at the extraction point and thus avoiding the long trek back past the enemy AI.

Once you complete the final server in the case and the Picus newscasts concludes, the achievement will unlock.

To open a Santo Group case on the Darknet, you need to sequentially close all previous cases, namely Versalife , Steiner Beasley and Tarvos . There is one case per server (except for the very first Network_00 ).

The darknet file "Santo" is the second to last file.
In the file itself you will have a male customer who will ask you to find his wife. Its search will account for 60% of the entire file. Afterwards you will find out the truth of your wife, who has a lot of money. He will ask you to steal this money. And here you have a choice:
  • To steal money
  • Refuse to steal
If you choose option 2, the case will be closed immediately and the achievement will be awarded. Skipping 40% of the file.
If you choose option 1, you will still have to go through 40% of the file.
