How to unlock the Excess Baggage Fees achievement in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - Definitive Guide

EDIT : It seems that they have increased the drop rate of the expansions items significantly.


Two notes to begin this solution :

1) This cheevo is 100% luck based so you may have more or less luck than me.
2) If you begin the breach mode for the first time AFTER downloading the update, it will be easier, you should have no trouble with this if you only buy 15000 credits pack along your journey in the breach mode.

The expansion items are special and very rare items found in pack. When you have one item, you can find it under Items > Expansion Kits in your reserve (to enter in your reserve, press cn_LT on your equipement screen). They up your stats and are not limited in use. When you have one, it's foverer unless you sell it !

To buy packs you'll need money... A lot of money... Here is my method based on the last darknet files linked to the update. To unlock it, you must have completed all others Darknet cases !

When i completed the last darknet files, i've "stolen" the money (i've not gave the credits to the guy) ! the result was 500 000 credits in my pockets ! With that i've bought only 15000 credits pack ! With 34 pack, i've earn 5 expansion objects !

For the rest i've made challenges with a dummy account ( if you beat someone's challenge, it gives you a victory booster pack or backup pack and 15,000 credits. You are limited at 5 challenges a day, you can challenge friends once you complete a level in any way. There will be a "Send Challenge" button on the bottom right once you reach the results screen. ) and sell useless"patch" and "cheat" to have more money ! And so on...

A B-ranked expansion item takes 3x2 places in the inventory, a A-ranked takes 5x2 and a S-ranked takes 6x3.

1. Create a new account; it doesn't matter if it's a silver/offline account. Just make sure to be signed into your main account while booting up Deus Ex on the dummy account.

2. Enter Breach Mode and finish Network 00 and a few servers in Network 1A. You'll soon have the ability to send challenges to friends. Complete ALL of the servers in Network 1A, but don't waste your Firewall Key on the firewall. Save it for sending more challenges.

3. Finish all ShadowChild's challenges for that day (1 for tutorial + 3 for the first day). It's okay if you can't win, just try three times and even if you fail, you still get the Backup Packs for some credits.

4. You should roughly have 100K credits after completing everything and selling all your items. Spend the credits on 2 Firewall Keys and start challenging your main account using the first level in Network 1A (Tarvos).

5. Finish the level in 10-14 seconds and that should be more than enough for your main account to win. For each dummy account you create, you can challenge your main account 12 times (3 times of the day + 9 from 3 Firewall Keys), and that's 12 Victory Packs for your main account.

6. When you are done with your main account, switch back to your dummy account to open those Backup Packs and you should have enough credits to buy 1 more Firewall Key.

7. Send challenges again.

8. Repeat with other dummy accounts if you have any.

Good guide. I got three expansion items from about 50 of the 15000 credit packs. Things progressed faster when I started only buying the elite packs. Received my last three expansion items from about 10 of those packs.

This achievement sucks. I'm never lucky. RNG is the worst. I bought 40 enhancer packs and only got one expansion item, though I have a total of 3 now. It's the long grind for me.

I got so lucky on this one tonight! I was using my dummy account to generate more easy challenges for the cash so I could get enhancer kits, ended up rolling 11 additional expansion kits from 12 victory packs! Maybe the patched server side so that expansion kits are very common? Or maybe I rolled incredibly well, but now I have 15 expansion kits! I really don't need that many, but boy am I grateful to be done with Breach! Great guide, got my upvote!

Opened 30 packs (15k ones) and got 10 Expansion Kits. 33.33%. Guess I got lucky.

Tips have been great on this and other solution(s). If I only knew earlier about challenges and them giving you those Nuke Viruses and good money which makes everything way easier. Also that tip with keeping the money from the DLC Darknet File is golden.

Also, if you want to grind Praxis and Levels, I suggest Network 1B - S11_Thorax. Rock an upgraded Battle Rifle and you can kill the Prime Unit in ~4 seconds each run. Very very easy.

The dummy account method is by far the easiest way to do this, in my opinion. Using just my alt account I cleared teir 1a and was able to afford enough keys to give my main account around 35 victory packs, plus 2 more from the daily challenges, and I got 12 expansion kits from those. Achievement was basically done with no difficulty thankfully.

Thanks for this info. I want to add although I'm not sure if it is random or not. I just did 5 challenges and got 4 expansion kits out of the 5. What I did was complete the challenges on the 3rd try. It may just be a fluke or it may be something to it.

Edit: I have confirmed that it is the 3rd attempt that gives you these kits. I'm up to 7 kits off of 5 successful third attempt finishes.

I'm pretty sure they've fixed the drop rate of the expansion items. I got 6 of them out of like 14 or 15 packs. Was dreading this achievement, so happy they fixed it!

I was helping someone out recently and I noted a significant increase in drop rate. I had never previously gotten the expansion item that increases the Praxis memory limit. However, 3 of the 4 elite kits I bought had this type of expansion item.

People seem to get the most out of elite packs. I'll have to give that a try.. Either that or the newer speed score and gear ones if I have the credits. Appreciate the guide!

Instead of doing all this stupid grinding your best bet is to just finish easy challenges that Shadow Child sends, these are free and give you money I was getting one drop 50% of the time out of the 10 challenges I did after the 2nd server was completed.

Square Enix Europe forced Eidos to add this and even created a small extra team for breach dedicated to creating a mobile style, pay to win, microtransaction driven mode in a matter of months before releasing the game. Worst decision ever, and cannot be attributed to Eidos, who crafted an excellent game, but to greedy businessmen who thought tacking on a horrible side mode was a good idea.

Yep, dummy method works great, been meaning to add my silver account to my One for a while now anyway.

Already got 2 out of 6 of the need Expansion items from Victory Packs, one from another friend's challenges he sent me, and got one in my first Victory Pack I got from my Silver's first challenge. Just gonna stick with this one extra account, don't want to have to setup brand new accounts, when I can send 3 challenges a day anyway.

Just got another from the third challenge, they must have really upped the drops rates. There we go, just got the achievement, only took me about 10 Victory packs. So either I got really lucky, or the drops rates are just so much higher now.

Ended up with 14 Expansion items after sending myself challenges, got around 6 Firewall Keys with both the credits and Praxis Kits my silver account had,

@MorbidEclipse24 - When the game was first released, elite packs gave the best bang for the proverbial buck. Today, the ghost network provides the best rewards providing you have a firewall key to access it. Once you clear one ghost network, you invariably get at least one firewall key or more than enough fragments to result in another firewall key. If you haven't entered Tier1B yet, the Ghost network will not cause the enemies to level up as you play Breach. Additionally, the Ghost Networks identify their difficulty. So, you can choose whether to play on a difficulty of 1 or 2 or accept the challenge at the max of 5. The rewards are greater the higher the difficulty.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the ghost network is the best place to get kickass S class weapons along with the components to enhance them.

The newest three booster packs (Speedrun, High Score, Gear-Up) give expansion items like crazy, as well as other high profile items. I would highly recommend buying these as your main source of items, and not just for the expansion items.

Now, with a uptade you can buy firewall key with your praxis, so with a second account you just have to do "S01_Stockade from the Network_1A section" few times to level up your character but DO NOT spend praxis, buy firewall key instead.

1500 xp per run (15 sec) [second account]
> Send challenge
1500-1700 xp per run (8-10sec) [main account]
> win challenge 15.000 - 20.000 [main account] and 5.000 - 7000 [second account]

Repeat.

This is by far the most time consuming and luck based trophy from the update. They can be found within booster packs and act as HP/Energy boosting items as long as they remain in your inventory, they are quite large so you may need to upgrade your storage size to hold 6 of them at once.

If you do not get 6 Expansion Items using the credits from the other trophies and the Darknet File as part of Ashes to Ashes then you will need to grind. By far the best method is using challenges to obtain victory packs, you can only do this once per day unless you have firewall keys to replenish your challenges.

I created 5 alt accounts and played Breach Mode up until the point where Shadowchild notifies you that challenges can now be attempted and sent to other players on your friend list around 1/3 through Network 1A Server 4 (skip 3). It took me around 15-20 minutes to get each account up to this point. When you do simply complete 3 servers and at the completion screen press  to send a challenge to your main account, personally I used the time completed as the challenge every time and used Network 00 Server 01, Network 1A Servers 01 and 02 as they are very short and easy to complete.

Once you have done this on however many alt accounts as you desire, you will obtain a Victory Pack for each one you successfully complete on your main account, you do not seem to get Expansions from these packs but you will always get a large number of credits in the range of 13-20k and high grade nuke viruses which can sell for 3-12k each.

You can also send challenges from your main to any alt and have that account purposely fail the challenge for a victory pack, the quickest way is to press  then exit server 3 times. Firewall keys can be used to send another 3 challenges and you can also attempt the daily challenges from Shadowchild as well, otherwise you will need to wait until the next day to try again.

In total I can grind around 400-450k credits in an hour by sending challenges from all 5 alt accounts and opening all obtained Victory Packs, selling Nuke Viruses Cheats/Patches and whatever else you have spare. I strongly recommend using your credits to buy Enhancer Packs (15k) until you get the 6 expansions you need, I got 2 from 16 packs. I had no luck from Elite Packs and they are over 3x more expensive.

Keep doing this daily until you get 6 expansions, you are at the complete mercy of RNG here.

Expansion Items are unique, rare rewards that can be found in Booster Packs of the Enhanced (15k), Elite (50k), and Ripper (200k) variant. Once acquired, they are stored under the "Items" tab in the Reserve Inventory menu. These items are permanent in their use and when placed in your loadout, depending on which item you've acquired, they boost HP and Energy stats.

In order to unlock these Expansion Items you will need to amass a large sum of credits and purchase Booster Packs from the in-game store. For this achievement, you should focus on only purchasing Enhanced Packs, which cost 15,000 credits. Due to Booster Pack rewards being completely randomized, there is no way to calculate a suggested, definitive amount of credits needed for this achievement. One useful tip that can be suggested, however, is to keep the 500,000 credits towards the end of the new Darknet File case.

This sum of credits alone will be enough for thirty-three Enhanced Packs (or more depending on your previous credit stash). There's a good chance you might need more credits, so feel free to utilize the "boosting" method below, provided by JieXY, to farm credits between your main account and an offline dummy account. This method involves completing daily challenges sent from your second account, which rewards you with a Victory Booster Pack that contains anywhere from 13,000 to 20,00 credits (and sometimes an Expansion Item). Guest accounts can send up to four challenges a day, which means you can essentially send your main account upwards to ~70,000 credits (or four to five Enhanced Booster Packs) daily.

Again, a big thanks to JieXY for the method below.

  1. Create a new account. It doesn't matter if it's a silver/offline account, just make sure to be signed into your main account while booting up Deus Ex on the dummy account.
  2. Enter Breach Mode and finish Network 00 and a few servers in Network 1A. You'll soon have the ability to send challenges to friends.

  3. Finish all ShadowChild's challenges for that day (1 tutorial + 3 dailies).
    • It's okay if you can't beat them, just try three times and even if you fail you still get the Backup Packs for some minor credits.
  4. You should have around 100,000 credits after completing everything and selling all your items. Spend your credits on two Firewall Keys from the in-game store and start challenging your main account using the first server in Network 1A.
  5. Finish the server in 10-14 seconds. That should be more than enough time for your main account to beat the record.
  6. Switch to your main account and complete all of the challenges. When you're done, switch back to your dummy account to open the Backup Packs and you should have enough credits to buy one more Firewall Key.
  7. Using the Firewall Key, send an additional four challenges to your main account.
  8. Repeat this process over and over until:
    • You have no more credits for Firewall Keys on your dummy account
    • You can no longer send challenges to your main account
  9. Wait 18-24 hours and the challenges should reset, allowing you to repeat the process.

Once you have acquired six Expansion Items, you will need to equip them into your loadout and complete any one server in order to finally unlock the achievement.

The worst Trophy of the Breach mode and the entire game in general. To obtain it, you will have to open 6 expanding items, which, judging by the information on foreign forums, drop out of the “Item Sets” for 15,000 and 50,000 credits. Pure chance and luck. If you are very lucky, you will receive the items before you run out of money. If not... Then you will have to go through several servers every day in order to earn the required amount for the “Daily Bonus” and buy a couple more “Sets” . And so on until the bitter end.

Addition: I received the Trophy in the following way: I took a friend’s profile, passed the first server in the Network Network_1A , sent a challenge to myself (the maximum possible number of calls is five, the minimum is three). After which he switched to his profile, won challenges, earned credits, went through the same server several more times and sent a bunch of challenges to a friend, which he all lost. As a result, the main profile constantly raises serious money from the victory, and the secondary one receives a “consolation prize”, which should be enough to purchase “Firewall Keys” ( 50,000 credits), which, in turn, are needed for new challenges. It sounds confusing, but I couldn’t write it simpler.

PS And, as Marchello_007 correctly noted, do not open “Sets” one at a time, it’s better to accumulate at least ten. The chance that the necessary items will drop out will increase significantly.

I recommend using packages of 15,000; the chance of getting an Expander out of a package of 50,000 is almost zero.

Friends, I want to share my experience with you. They say that nothing falls out of the winner's balls. I thought the same thing. Nevertheless, I decided to go on an experiment and save these balls. As a result, I accumulated 32 pieces. From these 32 balls I received......8(!!!) items. This is not a joke and I'm not bragging. Maybe it was some kind of bug or something else, but now I have 12 items of category B in my inventory. I’m writing all this because you shouldn’t rely only on purchased balls; items can easily fall out of the winner’s balls. Therefore, my advice to you is not to open the balls one at a time. Save up, then crack them open in one sitting. I received my first 4 items using the same scheme, only they fell out of purchased balls.

I saved up money for sets of 15 thousand each and bought 20 pieces, in the first ten the expanders fell out... maybe I was just lucky

You can simply create an additional profile (register, add as a friend) on your console, so as not to bother your friend))) It would be even better - start collecting winners' balls from the very beginning - only until you reach the S09_STOCKADE server with both profiles networks NETWORK_1A - they give much more experience.

They drop not only from the winner's balls, but also from the "consolation" balls, which are given if you fail the challenge.

maybe I was just lucky, but the squires changed the drop rate for the better, in total I collected 12 expanders, and one expander I got from the ghost server’s ball, I had about 30 sets of 15k in the whole game, but I opened a maximum of 10, that’s exactly how much I had enough patience. I also want to add that in my dream I don’t have a single friend who played the game, I did everything myself, I didn’t create profiles and I didn’t receive balls on the ball

After reading the reviews I was a little scared, in fact the trophy is very simple. Received at the beginning of the second level network. By that time I had collected 8 extensions. Just push them into your inventory and go through the server, for example s01_lavawall - it takes 10 seconds. Collecting extensions is also easy. We need a second account, well, we wrote about it here)
