How to unlock the Winners Don't Use Drugs (or Biocells) achievement in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - Definitive Guide

Edited to add: I see I have picked up a couple of negative votes. I assume it is because this guide focuses on the conditions needed to unlock the achievement and does not present a full walkthrough. The video in this guide is part of a complete walkthrough of this DLC. The entire 100% achievement completion A Criminal Past DLC video walkthrough can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/DE-MD-CrimPast-WT. Additionally, if you have been unlocking the achievements in order , the other videos in the walkthrough are featured sequentially in my guides for all the other A Criminal Past for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided achievements beginning with the Quid Pro Quo achievement.

The game is completed when Adam boards the aircraft to leave the prison. The achievement will unlock during the cut scene that follows--provided that the conditions have been met. First, Adam must refuse the Pill on any occasion that the Fixer might offer it to him. Second, Adam must not use the Altered Biocell at any time after it has been obtained from the stuffed Teddy Bear in the A Cell Block laundry room. Satisfying these conditions means that Adam must accomplish his mission without augments. The below video shows the achievement unlocking along with two others:

There are two other achievements that may unlock at the same time. If this is the first nonlethal completion, the following will unlock:

Deus Ex: Mankind DividedCode of ConductThe Code of Conduct achievement in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided worth 71 pointsComplete A Criminal Past without killing anyone.

If this is the first completion, the following will unlock:

Deus Ex: Mankind DividedA Criminal PastThe A Criminal Past achievement in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided worth 61 pointsComplete A Criminal Past.

Dear God I despise achievements like this. Hey, we'll give you oodles of toys to play with, BUT if you want this achievement you can't play with 'em! Ugh....

I feel exactly the same way. I would much have preferred a 'stretch goal' achievement that would have required Adam to explore areas of the prison that could only have been accessed through augments. This is the last video in a playthrough sequence. One can see it is not particularly difficult and (IMHO) a no augment run doesn't add much to the game play experience.

I found myself in an unusual position here. On the Helipad, I sided with Meija and then shot him in the leg with the Stun Gun. I didn't realise until I got on the plane and the achievement didn't unlock that, for some reason, this shot KILLED Meija and voided both this achievement and the Code of Conduct achievement too.

I reloaded my save, backed off and shot Meija in the head instead. The ZZZ appeared next to him and THEN the achievements unlocked during the escape cutscene. Just in case anyone else wonders what the hell happened here. Try a cheeky reload...

Technically, that would also void the achievement. You can't use any biocells altered or not. In addition to making biocells, there are biocells that can be acquired. If you want to do an augmented playthrough you can pick them up.

Practically, unless you use the altered biocell, a regular biocell will not work. Jensen is at full energy. He remains at full energy because he cannot use augments. If you recall, when you play the main game and you are at full energy and you try to use a biocell, it will not be consumed. It will only be consumed when Jensen is not at full energy. So, the altered biocell must be used first in order to circumvent the restrictions placed on the use of Jensen's augmentations. Then, when Adam starts to use his augments and depletes his energy, then he can consume biocells that he makes or otherwise acquires.

This is basically the achievement for doing the unaugmented run. If you refuse to take the pill from the Fixer and don't use the altered biocell, you won't have access to any of your augmentation powers for the DLC. The achievement will unlock at the end as you escape the prison facility.

This achievement is very self-explanatory. During the narrative, you will be offered a Fixer Pill once you meet the Fixer. Reject his offer to take the pill. After speaking with him, you'll receive a new objective that eventually leads you to finding the Altered Biocell in the Laundry Room of Cell Block A. Once you retrieve this item, just bring it to Flossy and agree to his request of delivering it to Red Shoes in Cell Block B. Do not, at any point, consume the Altered Biocell.

That's all there is to it. Avoid either substance/item and complete the entire DLC. Take note that without these items, you will not have access to your augmentations. It may seem difficult to complete the DLC without any augs but it shouldn't be too much of a problem so long as you take it slowly, avoid combat at all costs, explore thoroughly for alternate access routes, and save often.

The achievement will unlock upon complete the DLC provided you did not use either the Fixer Pill or Altered Biocell.

Play on the lowest difficulty, forget about stealth, kill enemies, some places are better to run through, and also try to search all the bodies for supplies, do not waste electronic master keys on regular terminals
