How to unlock the I Read You Like A Book achievement in Devil May Cry HD Collection - Definitive Guide

This is a more or less complete guide:https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/228814-devil-may-cry-hd-col...

Some things arent properly explained though.

Sin Scythes
Paragraph 6 - The umbrella-like shape that appears is a nucleus that gathers
evil spirits and converts them into its own energy. When this
occurs, they become even more fierce.

Method - As the battle goes on, eventually they will use this move, just be
patient!

Paragraph 7 - They'll stab their prey with their scythes and immobilize them to
steal their souls. Quickly move the Left Analog Stick back and
forth to free yourself from death.

Method - Only after they use their umbrella move will they use this attack.
Just let the attack hit you.
NOTE - You must have Devil Trigger off.

^Forget all that, you need at least 2 of these enemies and shoot all of them a little bit. They should start circling you after a few seconds and spawn circles midair. Jump onto them and let them grab you and use the LS to escape.

Shadows

Paragraph 8 - The Shadow will go into a state of shock if you succeed in
standing on top of its spear. When this happens the spells also
lose their barrier effectiveness and allows the bullets to go
right in. In another words, if you are able to blast enough
bullets during this state of shock, you can defeat the enemy
without trying to attack it's core directly.

Method - When it gathers energy to shoot the spear, stand still. Then time
your jump so that it shoots where you were standing. This will
allow you to land on top of the spear. Now fire your guns. Its
very difficult to do enough damage in one go and may require many
attempts. It may help if you engage Devil Trigger.

^pisseasy, even on DMD as long as they're not devil-triggered. Lock onto a Shadow and once they start bubbling jump up and as soon as you're standing on the pole shoot a few times with your pistols.

Blades ( these are by far the worst entries)

Paragraph 5 - When they notice that their pray is weakening, they will with out
mercy, come to finish you. Remember to always be on guard.

Method - Let it hit you when your lifebar is in the red zone.

^When you're almost dead they sometimes initate an attack where they leap towards you. This particular attack has to hit you and/ or kill you. As long as you have a yellow orb it will count.

Paragraph 9 - Even Blades equipped with masks, claws, and agility will not stand
a chance when they are put off balance. Attack from behind and
take them down face first. Then attack from the air to finish them
for good.

Method - Knockdown the enemy, then jump slash to kill it.

^aka instantkill them. You need to get behind them, stinger them in the back and use Helm-break to kill them. They almost explode completely into blood and orbs. Really annoying to do.

I’ve unlocked all the entries and completed multiple playthroughs on the same file and it still hasn’t popped. I wonder if it’s an Xbox issue or my save file is glitched somehow.

You should get Table Of Contents and Bookworm in your first playthrough without even trying.

When it comes to I Read You Like A Book, you basically need to document every enemy's moves. In some cases you will need to die and in others you will need to use a certain move on the enemies. Going for this achievement will stop you from getting The Devil Made Me Do It, so its not advised to go for it on your normal difficulty run.

There is a helpful counter in the Enemy Files that tells you how many of the moves of each enemy you have documented.

Refer to this guide for further assistance.

The trophy is easy to miss!

In the pause menu, File section, there is an Enemies item. They collect data on enemies, paragraph by paragraph. Each paragraph appears only after certain conditions (letting you be captured, seeing their attack, etc.), which will be described in the paragraph.

Try to do it on the normal difficulty level, since on hard the enemies change to their strong counterparts and you may no longer encounter weak ones.

When you first meet an enemy, it is better to watch him for a long time and let him attack you. Having opened more paragraphs, save. When you reload the mission, all paragraphs will remain, and the enemies will return for further study.

This guide may help you.

You can find articles in the menu, and by checking the site in the tooltip above, you can identify which paragraphs are missing. If you can’t get the missing note out, follow the advice.
Playlist (en) for all enemy attacks in separate videos.

Hello everyone, regarding Sin Scythe -paragraph 12, I did it as follows: They are stunned simply with one shotgun shot, then we jump on the stunned poor fellow and fire a second control shot and voila you get it - sign 8) It may not work on the first try, but gamers are stubborn people 8) Go for it, kids.

It took a long time to get Fetish to jump on his back as shown in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_KGRjTLBNk
Beat Fetish so that he is almost dead and you won’t have to wait long for him to jump on his back.

There were also problems with Sin Scythe. In addition to the tricky paragraph about the umbrella, another paragraph “to break the braid” was not completed. Take pistols in your hands, wait for Sin Scythe to throw a scythe at you, enter the Devil Trigger state and shoot at the scythe until it breaks.

Blade has a paragraph that opens if you kill him with a jumping blow (for example, hitting the sword on the ground). For me it opened not on the regular Blade, but on its improved version. (Apparently) It’s dark and a little larger than usual. Found in Mission 14.

I’ll write a little about records that require certain actions or are simply very rare of their kind:

difficulties may arise with the enemy Sin Scythe - Paragraph 6 - The umbrella-like shape and Paragraph 7

He puts this umbrella if you spin it, you must have pistols equipped. During the battle, just stand at one point and shoot at him without interruption and he will begin to circle around you, shoot until he stops, then stop firing, since you can accidentally kill him. when he stops he will start installing this umbrella and the paragraph will open. Stand next to this umbrella so that he grabs you with his scythe and pulls you towards him, by doing this you will open another paragraph in his file.

Shadow - Paragraph 8

This enemy from time to time turns into a long spear, as if shooting at you. At the moment when he gains energy to shoot, you need to jump in time so that the spear passes under you and you land on top of him. Shadow remains in the position of this extended spike for several seconds, and if you did everything correctly and after the jump stood on top of it, then start shooting at the enemy with pistols. You need to have time to inflict enough damage on him in this position so that he turns red. Firstly, this method allows you to kill him without opening his kernel, and secondly, it opens the last paragraph in his file.

PS this paragraph for shadow opens at a normal difficulty level without a devil trigger and on hard drive with a devil trigger.

Fetish - Paragraph 3

You need to be with your back to the fetish and at the same time at the right distance from it, not far and not right next to you =) The fetish should pounce on you from behind and sit on top. This action occurs quite rarely, so try to be alone with him and just walk with your back to him, keeping a distance. if he leans back then jump back as you will come under his fire and then again turn your back and walk...

Blade - Paragraph 7

If you can’t open this paragraph using the guide given in the hint, then swim close to it and let yourself be killed. Very often, it is the last blow to you that is necessary to open the paragraph.

These are the rarest entries in the book. If you have any difficulties, write me a PM and I will add a hint.

For this achievement, it is best to replay the game on normal difficulty again, since on high the enemies will kill you faster during exploration. And at the same time, you can accumulate items for passing on DMD. After you complete the game on normal and hard, you will be asked to choose the difficulty for the next playthrough of the game.

The point is, when a particular enemy performs an action (or you perform an action on him), Dante can note this in his files. During the first two playthroughs, you will open most of the records by accident; the rest, more rare, will have to be obtained intentionally. Use this guide https://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/445101-devil-may-cry/faqs/32417 See what records you are missing and try to get them. The main thing is to be patient. If the enemy does not take the desired action for a long time, try to beat him, let him hurt you, or stand with your back to him. Perhaps this will trigger it.

If you encounter any difficulties, create a topic on the forum - we will look into it in more detail and update the hint.
