How to unlock the Card Counter achievement in Diablo II: Resurrected - Definitive Guide

Hey guys, I thought I'd share how I did this and got something useful out of it.

I wanted a Gull Dagger which has 100 magic find, I use this on my magic find Sorceress on weapon switch and do the final hit for an added chance at getting better drops.

I leveled a character to level 11 and collected gold from the shared stash, I believe you can only carry 110k at a time at that level.

I then gambled the dagger until the achievement popped, I think it cost abit over 2 million gold.
You can press R3 to refresh the items on the gamble screen until one appears.

The dagger only costs 1607 gold a piece at level 11 and goes up with each level.

please note it's a 1 in 2000 chance to gamble a unique item.

The reason you should get to level 11 is because of how item levels and character levels work, I believe you can only gamble items +5 or -5 of you character level, the item level of Gull Dagger is 5 so you will always guarantee at level 11 that you can gamble it.

Good luck :).

This is an absolutely great guide combining a great way to get a super useful item for magic finding items with the gambling achievement (and not rinsing your money in the process) I probably spent £700k-£800k ish getting mine. If there was an achievement solution of the year award I would vote for this!

The item level is at minimum level 5 because I think diablo 2 rounds down.

So yes you'll always get a unique, if you're lower than level 11 you could get a failed unique and there's an easy way to tell. It'll be rare but with triple durability of a regular dagger.

Was about to post the same solution! I managed to get this in just under 50 gambles. Achievement pops near instantly so if it does as you mass buy the daggers, then you got one!

Thank you so much for this guide. I wasted about 12mil gold on my main. Just rolled a new character got her to 11 and got gull dagger within my first attempt with full wallet.

I did this last night 10-12-21, and after 3.7million I finally got the dagger but no achievement. I see that PLEYOR got it today, so hope it's fixed. However I haven't seen another update, and I did it only about 6 hours before his post. I'd personally hold off doing this right now as it seems iffy at best. I just hope that it didn't somehow lock this achievement for me.

The achievement pops as soon as you purchase it. Doesn't matter if you look at it. You're doing it right.

Thanks Vaughan14. I'll keep trying. Just fill up another slot to 2.5 and burn through it. Probably will just start buying rings on my main character before too much longer. 40 rings for 2 mil, but some really good possibilites out there that I don't have.

Both guides are great and the achievement pops when the gulch dagger is placed in your inventory by gampling. I spent nearly 12M and got almost frustrated, but I didn't give up ^^

I've spent 2,5 million now and haven't gotten it. I'm playing offline hardcore, do you know if that affect it?

Great Guide. I took about 1.6 million but your mileage may vary. Did 2 sessions about 2 hours each time then got in 30 mins in the third try. Completely empty your inventory so you can buy 20 at once, resell all 20 then repeat!

@Sturmhauer: Don't know if you got it yet, but I just got it today. Took me 11.000.000 gold and a lot of time. And I did it with an offline Barbarian. Not hardcore, though.

So, I'm playing offline HC, and I was just buying them, and tossing them on the ground instead of selling them back, because it's way quicker, and no achievement for about 1 mil.

Looked on the ground around 1.2mil while going back to stash for gold, and there was a Gull Dagger there. Picked it back up, THEN the achievement popped.

🤷‍♀️

You should add in your solution that you don't actually have to take 110k out at a time.

You can move that 110k from your shared stash to your personal over and over until it's maxed, and THEN start gambling. It just takes it right out of your personal stash, which now conveniently is maxed, letting you gamble for much longer without having to re-up every 110k toast

I kept track of how many gambles this was taking me based on how many times I filled my inventory. It was around 6000 for a supposed one in 2000 chance. Prepare yourself for the possibility that it won't go well, because it briefly affected my mental health how long this was taking.

This is a stupid question but is it 100% level 11? I've gambled about 4 mil on daggers with my lvl 11 character and am yet to get one. The monotony is killing me.

Yes, I know it's random and 1:2000. That's about 3.2 mil on average so this isn't unreasonable yet. I just want to ensure that lvl 11 has definitely worked for people.

edit: got it after about 6m, but leveled to 12 for the last mil just in case.

Just making sure that this achievement should pop the moment it falls into my inventory. I'm just over 20 million in on this, and have yet to get the achievement. However I don't look at the daggers when I'm selling them back because they're obviously not what I'm after if the achievement didn't pop. Just making sure that I haven't already possibly got it, and that I'm doing something wrong. I fill up a shared then take it all out on my lvl 11 to put it on her private slot. Then fill the 3 shared ones back up and let her drain them all. So that's 10 mil per attempt + sell back money. Done this 2x now.

As an update I just really wanna confirm that it's level 11.... I'm now at 65 million gold spent (from my inventory not counting resale gold spent), so that's over 40,000 daggers purchased from Gheed in the Rogue encampment on my level 11 sorceress. Please someone tell me what I'm doing wrong!! This is infuriating. At this rate i'll hit 99 on hardcore before getting this achievement.

Update: In the 2.5mil gold that included 100mil total spent on this I finally got it to drop... I really hope that I'm the only one that has to spend this much to get it, but just know that the guide does work for what you need to do. Just may take a very long time to get it. Now I can finally just move on and stop picking up every single item/mana potion to have money. Took me almost 62k daggers, but it finally dropped. Good luck to everyone going for it.

As a side note the dagger does look different. It's more of a dull grey than shiny silver.

A better way to make the most of your cash when gambling:

- When you have amassed a large amount of gold, place the gold in your shared stash.
- Make or log into a level 1 character then level it to 11.
- Take the money out of your shared stash
- Go to Gheed in Act 1 and select 'Gamble'
- Look for a dagger in his gamble window (if it is not there then press and hold cn_LS (left thumb-stick down) to refresh the window)
- Now keep buying daggers to fill your inventory. Now remember you do have a 1/2000 chance to get one so this can take some time but is cheaper then gambling with a high level character.
- Sell back any dagger that are not needed (this will help towards vendoring 1,000 items)

The dagger you're trying to obtain is called 'The Gull', it offers 100% magic find, you can find it via here: https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Gull

A unique item is anything that has its text in gold, here is a little breakdown:
Gray = Socketed/Ethereal
White = Normal
Blue = Magic
Yellow = Rare
Gold = Unique
Green = Set

EDIT/UPDATE - Since the last Console patch, the achievement has been reported for not popping when you get the dagger. Because of this I would recommend checking the items prior to selling them back so you do not sell your 100% MF dagger by mistake. The achievement WILL pop but can take some hours now.

If you wish to see a full breakdown on gambling, check this video out:

It's a bit disconcerting, but why are there so many thumbs down for this guide?
The content seems legitimate and goes well with the other posted guide.
Those who down-voted, please explain. Is the advice bad? etc. Thanks.

Also, please describe what a unique item is so we'll know what it is when we get one.

The trophy is completed by Guides in cities. Approach these NPCs and play the one-armed bandit, mercilessly draining your gold.
The chance of a unique item dropping is indecently small, so having collected a kosher amount of gold, we go to spend it.
The types of items presented to the non-dealer depend on your level and range from -5 to +5, i.e., with level 50, you can knock out items from level 45 to 55.
And, of course, the higher your level, the more expensive the items.
Text guide (ru) to the casino.

Won 2 items almost immediately after the game started. One in the first act, the other in the second. The first is brown fabric gloves (item level 9) with three yellow dots, the second is dark brown fabric armor (item level 7). I advise you to be around level 7-14. And the prices are low. The chance of dropping a unique item is 1 in 2000.

Absolute random - we knocked out on the same day with our comrades on low-level spells - 8, 11, 13 lvl, one friend spent 500k, I spent 1.2k, and the third didn’t knock out anything, spent 2.5k, bought blades, the blade should fall on you 100% Magic Find

In the period between character level 1 and 20, more than 15 million were spent (offline game with save save) before receiving a unique item.

I recommend collecting a bow and putting it on when gambling (gambling) on 3 sockets - it gives a 15% discount from vendors (traders) and knocking out a grand charm (great talisman) Gheed's Fortune (Guide's Luck something like this) on Hell difficulty I don’t play RU because of poor translation) - 10-15% discount from vendors. In total, we will have up to 30% discount on gambling from merchants.

To get this trophy faster, reach level 11 with any of your twink characters. It will be easier this way, because from your basics, in any case, all the tabs of the chest are already filled with gold worth 10 million, but if not, one full tab worth 2.5M should be enough. At level 11 it is easier to get the unique Gull dagger (giving +100% to MF), because there is a pool of all kinds of daggers, including unique ones. I will attach an image of the dagger so that it is clear which one you should look for. An important advantage when gambling (gambling) will be the presence of such a thing as any 3-socket bow with the rune word “Edge” (aka Edge) consisting of 3 runes - “Shooting Range” + “Tal” + “Amn”, which will give iron 15% discounts and Perhaps someone has come across such a talisman and did not know, I will say that this property not only affects merchants selling items, but it also works when gambling.
