I have never even died to this boss so I wouldnt even be afraid of him.

The most important thing to worry about is the fire that will rise up on the ground if you are on it when it hits. Its easy to tell though when it happens because the ground will start to light up, just run away from it and go somewhere it wont hit.

Also there are 2 healing wells on the northwest and northeast corners these can be very helpful. Other than constantly hitting him there really is no technique, unless you want him to charge a wall and hit him, wall charging makes him stunned for 2 seconds.

This is the second boss that you encounter in Diablo III. He isn't too hard once you've grasped the game mechanics (like evading). The main things you need to know are the following:

Butcher has 3 main attacks:

-Battering Ram Attack: With this attack, he stops for about 2-4 seconds to charge up and rams straight at you. Now, be aware that you do see a red beam which indicates exactly where he is going to ram into. If you are within his red beam, you need to use your evade movement (your right analog stick) to get out of his way.

-Club Attack: One of his weapons is a huge club. This does a lot of damage, so you need to make sure that he doesn't hit you with it. He is very slow when he is going to attack you with it so it's very easy to evade AND foresee.

-Grapple Hook: This attack is the most troublesome of them all. This is his only fast attack where he throws a blue glowing grapple hook at you and reels you into him, and yes, it's a one-hit kill for most since by this time you don't have full set tank gear.

The Butcher is a SLOW boss but he isn't the only thing you need to worry about. The other factor that you need to watch out for is the ground itself. Fire randomly rises from the ground and will do some pretty nice damage to you. You can foresee where the fire will be at though since the ground glows red for about a good 4-5 seconds, so you have some good time to evade to another area that isn't glowing in red.

There are TWO HEALING POOLS up in the north west and north east of the area. They do re-fill after around 45 seconds - 1 minute and has infinite uses.

Needless to mention this is a lot easier with more than one person, but very much do-able with just one person.
