How to unlock the Made to Order achievement in Diablo III - Definitive Guide

Once you unlock the blacksmith (very early), bring him any and all blue (magic) yellow (rare) or orange (legendary) items and use the Salvage option. This generates the materials used for crafting. White items are base items with no special effects and cannot be broken down. (They also cannot be sold for more than a few pieces of gold, even at higher levels, so just avoid picking up any white items to save room). After exploring several dungeons you should have enough loot to break down to make several items, make 5 and the achievement is yours. The blacksmith is stationed right by the fast travel point in New Tristram once you've done his quest (which is story related).

Also, per OzzysShadyDisco, you can take your basic crafting materials and turn them into better materials. This counts as crafting an item. Thanks for the tip!

Per Craze Kiler, you can also unlock this by combining gems since it counts as crafting an item.

True, to clarify you can only salvage magic/rare/legendary items (blue/yellow/orange). You can sell the white (base) items for pennies or just avoid picking them up altogether, they aren't worth it.

^You should add your comment to your solution...

Also, you can take your basic crafting materials and turn them into better materials. This counts as crafting an item. I made one or two pieces of armor and then a few of the upgraded materials and it popped for me. Haha - craft crafting materials!! facepalm

You're telling us how to salvage, but not how to craft...

Crafting items includes making armor/weapons via Haedrig, or combining gems via the Jeweler, which is the much easier route to get this with little hassle. The gems required for this will drop from enemies as your progress through the game, and the items required to build equipment can be salvaged at the blacksmith (Rare items or above) or lower level materials can be upgraded in a similar way to how gems are combined.

Either we ask the blacksmith to forge 5 things, or we ask the jeweler to make 5 gems. A very simple achievement.
