How to unlock the Never Seen that Before achievement in Diablo III - Definitive Guide

This particular achievement is awarded when you kill any one "Unique" enemy listed in the Never Seen that Before Challenge. Unique enemies only spawn in specific areas but are not guaranteed to spawn. There are 82 unique enemies spread throughout the game and you will most likely find one of them while progressing through the various levels. Diablo III is completely random however, so you may get to the end of the game without seeing any. Just fully explore each map/level to make sure you don't miss any areas and hope one shows up.

That's pretty unlucky. Diablo III is completely random though, by the time I finished my first playthrough on Normal I had killed 15 of them. I haven't played through the higher difficulties yet so I can't say either way if they offer better chances to run into these guys.

Interestingly enough, I've played Diablo 3 on both PS3 and Xbox 360 and I pretty much always encounter one of these uniques in Act 1 before reaching the Skeleton King on the 360. On the PS3 though that has never happened yet.

Went thru my first playthrough with no luck on getting a single one with exploring all areas! It was a mixture of co op and solo play. Hopefully find one in my next run

I also got this by luck on my first playthrough in the desert during Act 2. It is completely random but luckily 82 guys helps makes this easier to get.

While in game, press , go to Challenges, then Triumps and scroll down to the Never Seen That Before Challenge for a full list of the Elite names to look out for. The rather long list shows off the many special Elites that are generally a bit more powerful than their lesser Elite counterparts, and can only be found (by chance) in a set location. It has been my experience that Drury Brown is the most common of the lot, appearing in one of the three tombs you need to search through for the Skeleton Kings crown in in the first half of Act I. Although, chances are you will get at least one of these guys over the course of your time spent getting the other achievements (probably quite a few on the list, actually).

As a side note, if you are going for the Staff of Herding to enter Whimsyshire (Cow Level), you will need to farm items, one of which is dropped by Chiltara. Chances are you will get this achievement naturally, but if not you can get two birds with one stone by killing Chiltara in Act III.

Unique - mobs with a purple name. They appear clearly in their locations and therefore finding them is not difficult.

Now there is some problem with the trophy. Mobs don't appear. I only got it when I replayed the Inferno Act II mode.

There are no problems with this trophy now. Near the appearance of mobs. Who's lucky? I got it on my first playthrough, right at the exit of the spider’s cave I nailed a goatfoot with additional affixes
