How to unlock the Devoted Protector achievement in Diablo IV - Definitive Guide
Edit 4: As of Season 6, this achievement has been changed from reaching character lvl 100 (the max is now 60) to Paragon lvl 200 (paragon lvl is shared across all characters on a realm [Seasonal and Eternal are separate] )
There are now many endgame activities compared to launch and all are viable for leveling with Infernal Hordes being the fastest.
Edit 3: 05/16/2024 - Some are reporting that as of the Season 4 update, if this achievement previously glitched for you, it may now unlock by loading up your lvl 100 character.
Edit 2: *WARNING* As of the latest November 2023 patch, this achievement has become glitchy and isn't unlocking for a number of people. It might be worth it to not hit lvl 100 until Blizz fixes this.
Edit 1: ***Seasonal characters have large boosts to XP gains so if you're starting from scratch use a seasonal character instead of one on the Eternal realm.
TLDR: The fastest way to get to 100 is by completing nightmare dungeonsat the highest tier you're able to do (see my 3rd to last bullet point below for calculations). EDIT: July 18th patch caps bonus XP earned from enemies 10 levels higher than you.
This will take a long time since levels come quicker early in the game but much longer in the end game, even at +100%/+200% XP.Estimate at least 100 hours if beelining it, quite a bit more if you get distracted by gear numbers and effects often (like me). Most likely 200+ hours for most people who like switching builds and participating in other things besides high tier dungeons on repeat.
Lvl 100 can probably be achieved in less that 80 hours now since the XP buffs in Season 1 & especially 2.
*These are the current popular XP dungeon farms. These are valid as of Hotfix 13, but I can't guarantee these will be optimal after later patches.
I'll try to update when I can.
- Solo: Uldur's Cave in Kehjistan and Blind Burrows
- Co-op: Blind Burrows and Ruins of Eridu in Hawezar
Here's an opinion tier list for the best dungeons in pre-season 1 based on mob density, easy objectives, etc:
https://www.wowhead.com/diablo-4/news/nightmare-dungeons-tie...
Bullet point guide:
- Craft lots of weak elixirs and always have one active. +5% XP for 30mins
If you have lots of ingredients, craft elixirs with a damage buff against the enemies you'll be facing in your dungeon of choice to make it go faster.
- Playing co-op gives +10% XP
If your party is strong enough and you're running the popular dungeons, split up your party and tackle different lanes of the dungeon to complete much quicker.
- Complete strongholds and work a few sidequests in each region to get to lvl 3 renown in each area.
I'd wait to grab all the Altars of Lilith until after you get your horse in Act 4. These give you +10 renown in their region.
- Complete the campaign. World Tier 3 unlocks after you beat the campaign.
------ I recommend playing the campaign on WT1 to speed through it swiftly. The +20% Xp isn't worth the extra time it takes to kill Elites/bosses. Personal preference here though.
- After the campaign complete the capstone dungeon in Kyovashad under the Cathedral to unlock WT3 and immediately skip WT2 to start WT3. This grants constant +100% XP.
- Complete dungeons that grant you aspects good for whatever build you're running.
------ While riding horsey to these dungeons complete any Grim Favor bounties for the Tree of Whispers that appear along the way. Turning in 10 favors gets you some good XP and gear.
(you'll also need to turn in loads of these over time anyways as the achievement related to the Tree is the most annoyingly chance-driven cheevo in the game)
- Legion Events and World Bosses are worth the time for XP and great gear and they also mix up your play so the dungeon grind isn't so tedious. They aren't always active though so watch the timers.
- Complete regular and Nightmare dungeons until you're over lvl 70-75 and ready to start WT4.
------- Nightmare Sigil tiers can be confusing at first. Take your current level and subtract 54 to get the tier that would be exactly your level. For example, if you are level 84, tier 30 sigils would be exactly your level's difficulty. 84-54=30.
To get a good XP boost, complete sigils that would be 3 over your current level, so at level 84 do tier 33 sigils for best gains.
- At WT4, complete Ancestral Nightmare dungeons while mixing in the aforementioned Legion and World Boss events.
- Once you reach 100 you can theoretically attempt to beat Uber-Lilith, but it's VERY difficult.
There are now many endgame activities compared to launch and all are viable for leveling with Infernal Hordes being the fastest.

Reaching level 100 with a character in Diablo 4 isn’t necessarily hard, it’s just super time consuming. You’ll fly from 1-50 in a relatively short amount of time, but the journey from level 50 to level 100 is probably more than 50 hours (it was very rare I’d do one level in an hour).
Here’s what you should do though, in terms of getting the best out of it and maximising your time.
Here’s what you should do though, in terms of getting the best out of it and maximising your time.
- Firstly, finish the campaign. If you do it on World Tier 2 you’re likely to finish the campaign at around level 50. If you do it on World Tier 1, you’ll likely come in around the 40-42 level.
- Then, you’re going to want to do dungeons and what not to get to level 50, and then do the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon. This will allow you to take the world from World Tier 1 or 2 and into World Tier 3 (where the best XP gains can be found... for now).
- Next, you’re going to want to do side missions and dungeons to max out all regions to level 5 (in terms of renown). This will help with End of the First Mother (100G) . Use this time to unfog all the map too, and grab as many Altars of Lilith as possible (which will help with True Perseverance (75G) ).
- Throughout the above, I’d take time to dip out into Helltide zones and do Whisper events too. Not only can you work towards the Turning the Tides (50G) and Chaotic Whispers (50G), but they have great returns in loot and XP.
- On top of that, look out for the World Bosses, they’re great for XP and loot too.
- As well as the above, get involved in Nightmare Dungeons, for good XP, and again, good loot (and especially for some of the rare resources, like Scattered Prisms).
- Then, when you get to level 70, it’s time to do the Fallen Temple Capstone Dungeon in northeastern Dry Steppes, so you can raise the World Tier from Nightmare to Torment. This will give a massive XP boost against monsters (from a 100% XP multiplier on Nightmare, to a 200% multiplier on Torment).
- Level 70 opens up Ancestral Nightmare Dungeons as well, effectively, as you’ll be a high enough level not to get hammered. These obviously have the best returns in the game in terms of loot and XP.
- And finally, it’s a case of rinse and repeat until the finish line.

It’s better to fill in “Infernal Onslaught”, where the enemy’s level is always higher than yours, in the intervals while this mode is rebooting you can complete tree tasks or clear dungeons of the Seals of Nightmare
Also, when clearing, you can use any potions, as they give at least 5% additional experience
