How to unlock the 20 damage with Dagger achievement in Dicey Dungeons - Definitive Guide
Hello fellow dice,
I managed to get this rather easy with "The thief" (second playable character).
Played the episode 2. I had the following setup on floor 5, which made it easy.
You should notice that you need a bit of luck to get that setup.
To get this setup, you can steal the equipment of an enemy at the end of a combat (special ability of The Thief) or buy it at the market (if you find it).
Setup:
- Dagger+ (the upgraded version, given 1/2/3 damage + 1)
- Lockpick+ (the upgraded version, given you three dices if you roll a six)
- Hacksaw (minimum three, giving you three dices)
- (Cauldron, giving 1 damage and a new dice)
In the fight (tactic):
Notice:
- Much easier if you have your "Hook" ability ready before the fight.
- You actually need an enemy with at least 20 HP...
- Tipp for PC (not sure for Xbox): if you quit the game ("Back to title") before the fight is over, you restart on the map in front of the enemy. You can use that to get your good dice combination (for instance a six).
Very helpful comment by james bogart:
This can be done much more consistently and without having to rely on equipment RNG on Thief episode 3. The levels gimmick (all of the dice are the same value, increasing by one every turn) means by the time you get to floor 4/5 you can get 7 dice (4 as standard + 3 from limit break) that are all value 3 then use them all in one turn for 21 damage. This can even be done on an earlier floor if you upgrade to Dagger+ as you only need 6 dice.
If you play the second episode, you might also get:

Same episode, I had a dagger, 2 lockpicks, and skeleton key+. Right before final boss was at x5 dice and had limit available. Used limit, used lockpick x 3 -> 8 dice. Stuck a 3 in the key turning everything into 3's. 7x3 = 21 cheev unlocked.

Thief-specific Achievement
As the description says, you need to do more than 20 damage in a single turn with your dagger. Before attempting this, you will absolutely want to upgrade your dagger on a run, because it'll do an extra point of damage per use, making this way easier. You'll also want to stock up on gear that duplicates and splits your dice, such as Lockpick and Counterfeit. You should also level up a bunch to get more dice. Lastly, you'll need to make sure the enemy has at least 20 HP left. Then, it's just a matter of getting good rolls (like 2s and 3s). You can also use your Focus for another 8 damage on an upgraded Dagger.
Here's a clip of me doing this. Note that, for some strange reason, this achievement unlocked for me when the clip stops. I have no idea why, since I clearly didn't do 20 damage to the enemy. I obviously could have with the remaining dice I had, so the strategy remains the same.
