This achievement will come naturally if you are going for completion as the last miner on island 11 costs just over 10,000 and the last on island 12 costs just over 20,000. There are a few ways you can speed this up though:
1. Use animals that give a bonus for diamonds. By the end, I had a bonus of 120% for collecting diamonds.
2. Use the black market to speed up the workers. You can do it 5 times each day. If you buy all 5 at once (5 minutes), you will end up with more diamonds than you started with.
3. At the end of the day, you have the choice to increase your money or diamonds. I always increased diamonds and I would hold off on buying a pet or worker until the next day started. For example, if you have 2,000 diamonds at the end of the day, you get a bonus of 200 (10%). This really adds up towards the end of the game. Once the new day starts, buy your pets and workers and then speed them up to start accumulating again.

Your employees will handle this for you, and the last employee costs 20k diamonds, so if you're going for 100% you'll get this for sure.

This just unlocked for me with the following notes:
* I had about 6,300+ diamonds on hand
* I last saw my achievement progress at 50%
* I decided to buy the permanent scooter upgrade @ 1,000 diamonds
After dropping back down to 5,300 diamonds, I unlocked both the scooter achievement and the Diamonds achievement. Hypothesis: You must buy something with Diamonds, and the amount remaining must be at least 5,000 gems.
If you don't spend diamonds constantly, you can earn 'interest' daily by selecting the 10% diamond option at the start of the next game day. It gives you 10% of your current amount; if you had 3,000 diamonds on hand, you would then add 300 to your bank.

Anyone else's tracker screwed up? I'm up to 16.2k diamonds and still no achiecement just on 16%
