How to unlock the Master Researcher achievement in Digimon Survive - Definitive Guide

You must obtain the monster for yourself by either using them in battle or simply evolving a free monster into it. Fighting against the monster will not count for this, which is what I originally thought. If the monster's portrait is gray in your library, you will still need to obtain them. You will need 113/117 as Guilmon and his evolution line will not count as he is unobtainable during normal play.

This can be gotten during multiple playthroughs as your progress is saved for new game+ as long as you continue the same save file that was previously completed. I used several guides during my playthroughs because at the time of playing the game was pretty new. This was never meant to be a guide, just a helpful tidbit of information that I would have appreciated knowing while playing the game myself.

Any tips on how this works with multiple playthroughs? Do they carry over, or does it have to be all in one run? Thanks smile

It will carry over with NG+ after your first playthrough.

@MeetTheCynic Yeah, for every achievement you need four playthroughs. But for this achievement specifically, you could technically get it by only doing two.

If you make a save just before the split choice, and are close with the three values, you can use that to get the all the endings, just make sure the one you actually continue with is the Moral route (left) as Omegamon can ONLY be gotten that way, while the other route specific ones can be evolved from free monsters. Also be aware that Gabumon only shows up in shadow battles, and that Palmon can be recruited in Chapters 7 and 10 only as far as I could find. I have to go through the game a full 3rd time because I carried over from a playthrough that wasn't the moral route.

First of all, don't be fooled by the description this does not unlock from encountering all monsters. It unlocks from owning all monsters. You don't need to own them simultaneously you just need to own them to fill out their page in the Field Guide.

To check your progress open the pause menu and go to Library > Monster. There are 113 Digimon in this game that need to be recruited (Guilmon DLC does not count) and you can tell which ones you have by the colour of their portrait here. If its coloured in, they're counted. If it's greyed out you've battled one but not owned one (I tested - a full greyed out field guide didn't count). If it's dark with no picture then you haven't even seen one. This achievement will unlock once all 113 of these entries are coloured in and selectable.

Most Digimon can be found through Free Battle, many others can be found through evolving, some through story, but a few have more obscure ways of finding so consult the list at the achievement guide below to figure out what you're missing.

Alternatively, check out the attached achievement walkthrough as it points out each and every one of them along the way.

I created this video with the full Field Guide (117 Digimons) showing the evolution paths. For Seasarmon it does not show it, but you can get that one from Gabumon (Shadow Battle in Chapter 7, behind Aoi).

Do you know if you need to have OBTAINED all 113 or if you just need to battle them?
I say 113 because Guilmon and his evolutions are codes that not everyone has and i assume it isn't necessary for the trophy.

This trophy is a pain in the butt since Gabumon only spawns in two places and Palmon nevere spawns in free battles.

well, if you go to saki/aoi in chapter 7 and get the nuts then go to the shrine you get a free palmon. you need 3 palmons to complete the field guide but then, with four endings you can get four free palmons this way.

gabumon is the pain, due to you needing seasarmon.

I found a Seasarmon in a shadow battle in Reception at the Library Area in Chapter 11. I am on the Harmony path, but I don't know if that matters.

Just for clarification there are three Digimon that never spawn in Free Battles.

The other solution mentioned Gabumon, which only spawns in two Shadow battles.

The other two are:

Palmon
Only spawns in two places.
Part 7, you need to talk to Saki and get the bag of nut soff of her and then tall to Agumon, head to the shrine and find the Palmon, give them the nuts to get them in your party.

In part 10. You once again need to talk to Agumon in the woods by the school during free roam. You'll investigate a bush and three digimon will run away. Once is Palmon, who runs to the Woods by the shrine. Talk to Agumon when you get there and select "Wave a white flag" to recruit him.

Tentomon
Part 10. Same process as Palmon, but you talk to Agumon at the shrine aelect rhw left option (I'm sorry I forgot what the actual phrase is).

There's a shadow battle it spawns in during Part 11 of the Moral route. This doesn't always occur though and the one before is the only for sure way of making sure ypu get him.
