How to unlock the Notorious achievement in DiRT 2 - Definitive Guide

FP (the online version of XP) is needed to gain levels while playing through races online.

You can gain FP in many ways.

The first way is to play through Pro races online as you cannot gain FP by finishing positions in AM.

You gain 100 FP just for entering and finishing a race.
You gain additional FP for finishing ahead of people, up to a maximum of 1,000 FP for winning an 8 player race.
The level of FP that you can gain up to is determined by how many people are in the race. The more people the higher the FP gained for winning the race.
There is an additional 100 FP that can be gained if your marked as the OTW (One to Watch) at the start of the race.

The second way is to enter a tournament. At the end of the tournament the minimum that you will earn is marked on the tournament information. This can be found by going outside and checking the news section. Usually it's around the region of 250 FP up to 20,000 FP depending on how well you do.

The third way is to complete missions. These can be found by going into 'My Stuff' and clicking 'Missions'. They range from how many miles you have driven to how many people you overtake online. The main difference with these is that they can be acquired while playing through the AM section of multiplayer as well as Pro races. Missions come on 5 different levels. Completing the first level gains you 100 FP but if you manage to complete the 5th level then you will gain 2,500 FP. If your having troubles gaining rankings, get a boost buddy and go through some races on AM and fulfil the requirements to gain the FP boost of completing a mission.

To get to level 30 online you need to gain at least 69,600 FP.

If you do team races and don't perform well yourself but your team mates do well you get points for 'team bonus'.

For an idea of time involved, I did in about 8 hours. I did pretty much all notorius as team races in approx 140 races about 500 points per races and got (not all) the missions along the way without boosting them.

AM mode is like a player match. Pro mode is like online ranked. In AM mode, you can set the track, laps and so on.

I don't think it's called AM mode anymore but I still know what you meant by it. :)

In AM mode you don't get disqualified and you also get a 20 minute time limit, which is plenty of time to go backwards over the Marina Air jump which sends you sky high with plenty of flips - also boosts your 'persistance' by being online for 20 minutes at a time.

"complete the 5th level then you will gain 2,5000 FP"
One zero too much there, you get 2500FP for the 5th level.

A quick note.. you don't get 100 FP for finishing races... I've finished multiple races and stayed at the exact same FP level... looks like you only get FP for winning races now... !! angry

This game really attracts assholes who would rather play bumper cars than have a clean fair race and hackers who complete entire races in 30 seconds, so the best way to get to level 30 is really to do a combination of all the things failurewarning described, especially missions and boosting team pro tour races.

For Missions-You can do this with as little as two people. Start up a jam session, have the host choose a rallycross race in LA on the Marina Air track. You'll want to set it to one lap most of the time, unless you're working on Go Long (miles), Persistence (time played), or Overtake then you will set it to 10 laps.

Go around the track to the big ramp. THIS RAMP IS THE KEY. Now just driver back and forth off the ramp. You can work on the following missions:

Spin Daddy (spin outs)-Will be the first one you get. Just spin round and round for about three minutes and you'll complete all five levels.

Long Jumper (jump distance)-self explanatory.

High Roller (# of times you roll your car)-particularly when jumping the ramp going the opposite way

High Jumper (jump height)-Jump off the ramp from side to side.

Environmentalist (breaking breakable signs) -PLENTY of breakable signs around the ramp area. Break them all.

Drifto (drifting)-Every time you turnaround to go up the ramp, drift around. Also, just beyond the ramp is a large area where you can boost your drifting.

Overtake (passing)-Set in to 10 laps and just keep passing each other. It won't take too long.

Persistence (time driven)-Set it to 10 laps and drive slowly.

Go Long (miles)-You need 1000 miles for this one and will most likely get level 30 before you finish this one off (I was only a level 3) so no need to worry.

BOOSTING:

The best method is to get 8 people together (or as many as possible) and do a Team Pro Tour race-Ruckus. In Ruckus, you'll either get a Domination or Last Man Standing. If it's Domination, VETO; you want a Last Man Standing match because it's shorter.

Take turns winning. Have one team (red or blue) finish one through four and the other team finish 5 through 8 and switch. Rotate winners among your team. With this method, the winner will receive at least 1050 xp and the rest of the winning team will receive 550-750 xp. In a two hour session, you'll be surprised how fast you'll pile up the xp.

You can do this with less than 8, but it's less xp for everyone, including the winner.

Really easy way to boost environmentalist is to play trailblazer on Morocco - Ounila Valley and destroy the orange fences. Each race will net you around 500 objects destroyed which means 5-6 races and you could go from 0 to 2500.

Just want to add that if it doesn't unlock when you hit level 30 go to the dash board and clear your system cache, then start the game again, this is what happened to me and is what i did and it popped in the RV.

Also I was at level 34 before I did this.

I had this happen as well after reaching level 30. I went to the dashboard and started the game back up, the achievement unlocked after going back into multiplayer.

There are 2 methods which you can do to boost towards this achievement and I recommend you use both of them to ease the congestion so that you do not get bored with the game.

The online for this game is not popular as what it used to be in the past. Another problem is that due to the fact that there are 2 achievements in this game that are now discontinued...

DiRT 2I Ain't Afraid Of No Ghost! The I Ain't Afraid Of No Ghost! achievement in DiRT 2 worth 23 pointsChoose a ghost, download and beat it!

DiRT 2TourneyThe Tourney achievement in DiRT 2 worth 50 pointsTake part in four tournaments.

Not many people are willing to play this game simply because they cannot complete it 100% with all of the achievements. So you may have some difficulty in finding extra players to help you.

Method 1: Boosting

If you are planning to boost, then you will need a minimum of 4 players to help you and a maximum amount of players which can fit in the lobby is 8. You can do this with 2 or 3 players in total, but it will not be productive and pointless compared to playing the Missions in the Jam Sessions.

Organization

First you need to decide among all of you, which 2 players will host an in-game lobby. Once decided they need to select "XBox Live" in "Multiplayer" and then invite a certain amount of players they are going to have on their team. You can use the cn_guide guide to help you out if you are all in an XBox Live Party. You both need to make sure the teams are evened out, otherwise the match may lot load up as the game will look for randoms to make up the uneven numbers.

When everyone is in the in-game lobby and in the groups, the leader then needs to choose "Pro Tour" and then select "Ruckus" that contains the 2 game modes "Domination" and "Last Man Standing".

Now for the next part in the lobby section you have a tricky part. You have to vote for a "Last Man Standing Match" as that is the quickest among the 2 game modes in this lobby. The game seems to rotate between the 2 whenever you return to the lobby depending upon which game mode you played in the last race. When the countdown starts you need to get everyone to vote by choosing the Vetoed method and ensure that enough votes are placed to change the game mode from Domination to Last Man Standing. You will all have to act fast though because the lobby countdown timer is only 10 seconds.

Note: If the game mode at the start of the countdown is Last Man Standing, you do not need to vote it as you will change it back to Domination.

Pick any car you want to drive and then let the match load up.

Boosting Method

The easiest way into gaining the XP is to first choose a team that is going for the win. Then once that's decided that winning team needs to choose one player to come in 1st place overall. So once the winning person on that team takes the lead, the remaining players that are on the same team as the winning player need to take 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. Then the other team needs to remain in the lower positions of 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th (or higher if there are less players). By doing this, the winning team will get a team bonus for having all players in the top positions during the race. This will give you extra XP.

In Last Man Standing after 1 minute of racing, a countdown will begin at 20 seconds. When the timer runs out, the player who is in last will get eliminated. Despite everyone's a team, everyone will be eliminated except for the leader of the race.

When the race is completed everyone will be given their XP and will be returned to the lobby menu. Now you need to do the same method again, but this time swap over and let the losing team choose a player on their team and when the race begins, let that chosen player take the lead. Then let the remaining players on that team take the higher positions in the race.

Once both teams have got 1 win with one assigned player on each team, then both teams need to rinse and repeat all that is explained above. However with this in mind they also need to swap the players and let someone else on their team take the 1st place. The idea is to let everyone have a turn in taking a 1st place win as that will give them bonus XP at the end of the race.

The game also contains a feature at the start of the racing called "One To Watch". Before the race begins one of you will be chosen as the "One To Watch" because you will have accomplish something throughout your career that no one has beaten among the group. If you are the "One To Watch" and your team wins the match, then you will get additional XP Bonus and if you we're to win in 1st place, you will get another XP Bonus. Be-ware though that the OTW bonus is not drastically high so it doesn't matter if you aim to work on this bonus or not as it can easily muck up the teams victory rotations.

Disconnections: At times people will get disconnected randomly from the races, mainly due to connection issues or for not racing at all. The game is not forgiving and if you do not press cn_RT to drive and use the cn_LS at some point, the game will kick you and you will be returned to the lobby menu. You may however be re-sent to your lobby in the multiplayer menu should the race finish and no randoms join in replacement.

Note: When the race begins, do not press the cn_LT button at all to reverse at the starting point. Doing so will Disqualify you and you will lose out on gaining XP in the race.

Dummy Accounts: If you have a dummy account which you are planning to bring into the race as well, you need to ensure that the dummy account is moving as well, or it will get kicked for being inactive. Luckily the game has a feature that prevents you from doing this. When the race starts simply drive the dummy account for a moment by pressing cn_RT and then press the cn_start button for the pause menu. Whilst the pause menu is active, the dummy account will drive by itself around the track at around 10mph. This means you can return to your main account and not worry about the dummy account at all. You can also easily overtake them for points.

Note: If you are planning to use a dummy account during the race then you will not be able to achieve a team bonus because the dummy will always remain in the last positions against everyone else.

By boosting the game with this method there are some achievements that you can earn along the way. The most notable online ones you could get as well are these...

DiRT 2With Great HonorThe With Great Honor achievement in DiRT 2 worth 39 pointsAchieve a 'Cautious' impact rating in Multiplayer races (Pro Tour or Jam Session).

DiRT 2Five Of Your BestThe Five Of Your Best achievement in DiRT 2 worth 43 pointsWin 5 Pro Tour races over Xbox LIVE.

DiRT 2Rush HourThe Rush Hour achievement in DiRT 2 worth 27 pointsWin an Xbox LIVE Pro Tour race against 7 competitors.

DiRT 2FamousThe Famous achievement in DiRT 2 worth 53 pointsReach Online Fame Level 15.

Method 2: Missions

The Missions can be accessed in this game with just yourself and a partner. It doesn't matter if you have additional players wanting to play the Missions with you as well as this won't get in your way.

If you have a dummy account, you can always use it to help you start up the multiplayer matches in this game mode should you not have a partner willing to help you access the Jam Sessions.

Organization

Whoever is the host needs to invite the players they want to join in their game and then choose Jam Session (Player Match) and then click Create Game. Have these settings in place...

Competition Type: Solo
Rounds: 1
Custom Car/Track Combos: Don't Allow (You cannot choose tracks if you enable it)
Discipline: Rallycross Race
Vehicle Set: Rally

Click on Track Selection...

L.A
Marina Air
Laps do not matter
Collisions do not matter

Click Advanced Options...

Session Visibility: Invites Only (Prevents randoms from joining your lobby)
Anything else does not matter

Click Done and your race will be created. Go ahead and invite anyone to the race if you haven't done so. You can change the settings here too. When you are ready to race, click Start.

Now in the lobby menu, before the race begins there is a feature you all want to look at. It's under "My Stuff" and then clicking on "Missions". This gives you a list of Missions which you can complete and doing so will give you XP bonuses. You can do these in Jam Sessions or Pro Tours.

Note: Aside from the Missions, Jam Sessions do not give you XP for winning, completing or participating in races.

All of the Missions placed within this category have a total of 5 Stages which is indicated in Roman Numbers on the left side. If you successfully pass the first stage, you will be awarded the XP bonus and then you will move onto the next stage. If you pass the fifth stage though, you will reach the limit of XP for that Mission Objective and you will not get anymore for performing the same requirements as the Mission Objective states.

Boosting Method

When the race begins simply have everyone to drive until you reach an area which has a large ramp.

Note: You do not get kicked in Jam Sessions for being inactive so do not worry about this.

Tip: If you drive the Dummy Account to the same destination and put it just over the ramp, then you can easily progress towards the "Overtaking" Mission.

When you reach the ramp simply jump over it and drive a little further until you see the next turn on your right. Turn around here and backtrack to where the ramp is and jump over it. You will want to make your car hit the ramp and fly upwards and crash.
By doing this you will work towards some Missions which you least expect and after a few attempts at dedicating yourself to it, you will unlock some XP towards some Missions. There's also some signs and items you can knock over as well for the Environmentalist Mission Award around here. You can also perform burnouts and spins as well towards Missions.

It's pretty funny working on this at first as you will see the excess damage your vehicle will take. But you will find at some point that it will get boring. Eventually after a lengthy period of time has passed on the track then you will all get a timer for the race to end and then you will all be awarded DNF (doesn't affect rank status).

When the race is complete, simply get the host to re-launch the match again until everyone decides they've had enough playing this game mode. People can leave and join whenever they want and won't lose out on their Mission progress. It automatically saves whenever something's achieved.

This achievement overall will likely take you around 25 hours or less to accomplish if you squeeze in some Pro Tour Boosting and Jam Sessions.

Good Luck!

Another good way to boost this achievement if you've surpassed level 20 without doing any multiplayer missions I would recommend you doing them via system link with a dummy account on the other console. This does help a lot if you find can't find sessions / randoms.

You gain Fame Points (FP, the equivalent of career-mode XP) by entering tournaments and competing in online races. Thankfully, level 30 is not too much of a grind and is pale in comparison to what some other racers have (level 280+). However it’s a bit frustrating with the dying online, so you may want to concentrate on the missions (Multiplayer > Online > My Stuff > Missions) and fulfil some requirements there for some more FP. For instance just doing 100 donuts will get you 4350 FP alone. Also, finishing higher in populated lobbies will help more than winning races against one other person. Just keep going and you will eventually achieve this.
