How to unlock the Crash Proof achievement in DiRT 3 - Definitive Guide

This can be achieved in any race at any difficulty

After selecting your car for an event the game will load the service area from here select Difficulty and Assists then Advanced Settings.

You will need to turn Damage On
Once the race starts look for a section of the track with a wall or some trees to crash into, you will need a bit of speed to achieve the terminal damage but you will know when you have since there will be a cut scene. Note you can also drive into deep water and recieve Terminal Damage Credit to OCChoppers for pointing that out

Select Flashback from the new menu on screen, rewind to a safe point and press cn_X to use a flashback, now carry on the race as normal, You must win, so i suggest having the difficulty set to 1 to make this easier.

Tried 10 times to get this and I always come in 2nd by less than a second. came in 1st in all rally events prior to trying this on casual. What gives?

On casual i was coming 20seconds ahead of the 2nd place car consistently, are you perhaps being too cautious or changed a setting by mistake when putting damage on?

If you go the Trailblazer pyramid and select the Michigan series, the first race is an easy one to do this on as it has a lake directly in front of you. After selecting your car make sure Damage is turned on to full under Difficulty and Assists and Advanced Settings. Once the race starts simply drive straight into the lake and after a quick scene you will be prompted to flashback. Just flashback to the starting point and race as normal. This race is roughly 1:30 give or take depending on the car you are driving.

The announcer will explain how a flashback can save you (but costs you driver rep), and you will be put into a replay. Hold to rewind, and press to restart your car at the position you selected. Now just complete the race, making sure to win, and the achievement will unlock shortly after the event is over.

Firstly in the service menu before a race make sure you go to "Difficulty and Assists" and set damage to full. Start the race and drive full throttle into a tree or wall or anything else solid. If the damage is terminal, the race will stop and a menu will be displayed with the stats of your crash. If it's your first time the options will be explained to you. Simply use the flashback feature as shown/described in the game to go back before your crash and subsequently go on to win the race. To give yourself the easiest time you can set the difficulty to 1 and you still have your other 4 flashbacks you can use to guarantee the victory.

Can be done at the first race.

Before the race, go to “difficulty and assistance” / “additional parameters” and set “damage” to full. We crash into any tree at full speed (it will be written that the car can no longer drive) and rewind time back to the time before the accident and win the race.
