How to unlock the Road Trip achievement in DiRT 3 - Definitive Guide

The Online Pass IS required to play online.

Select Multiplayer from the main menu then Xbox Live. (The game will now connect you to the dirt servers)

Now select Jam Session you can either search for a game an hope you find an unstarted game or host your own, as its a Jam Session you can boost this with friends or other players.

Note Joyride sessions last 20 minutes so a race in progress could take a while to finish

The achievement will unlock at the end of the game, the other 3 players Do not need to remain in the game throughout, Thanks Riksta10001 for confirming. It seems a patch of some sort may have been applied that has made it so all players need to remain in the game.

I can confirm that all players do not need to finish the event. I started a session with 5 players and 2 quit straight away. There were 3 of us left at the end and the achievement popped

i've hosted e joyride, completed but the achievement did not popped.

Didn't pop for me either. Was in the session for race 5/5, then waited until a new round of rounds started. Played through all of them, no-one quit out, finished the 5th race, back to lobby automatically, didn't pop. Done it twice now, still no pop. Any ideas?

I'm a moron :) I was doing the wrong thing, hahha, I was doing the Cat n Mouse one at the same time and got really pissed when it wasn't popping. Didn't win when I was the mouse either, so a complete wash-out for now ;)

I did this yesterday, only on the 3rd try, because on the first 2 there was always someone quitting. Probably they fixed it after last week update.

Im worried an update has 'fixed' the achievement so that everyone has to either stay or 3 need to remian as it wasnt so 'nitpicky' when the game was released.

Played smash the robots in Jam Session for three rounds with three other players till the end. Did not get achievement?

That is not a joyride session, joyride is its own game mode.

I just hosted a Joyride session that had 3 other players in it. Played through all 20 minutes and two people quit leaving only 2 of us in the room. Achievement unfortunately did not unlock. Looks like you need everyone to stay in the Joyride session until the end now. This is the second time this has happened to me.

I think the host only gets it? I was on Xbox One hosting a party of (3) on Xbox 360, my achievement popped theirs did not.

Earlier, the host was one of the ones who didn't get it, so I think it's just buggy.

I played a couple time this in a four players session. First attempt, I was the only one to get the cheevo, I was not the leader. Second time, no one got the cheevo.

I got this one on my third attempt, all were 4 player games, no one left and it didn't seem to matter who the host was.
The first two times I left the map by driving into the water and was reset.
On the final attempt I drove around, not resetting and not leaving the map. Achievement unlocked.
It could be related to leaving the map, or maybe it was purely a coincidence. Who knows?

Just unlocked this Xbox One. Total of four in session. I did nothing except park my car. Came back 25 minutes later to the Dirt Party lobby, waiting for players. No idea if the other 3 completed the 20:00 session, but confirming this does unlock in backwards compatibility.

Tried 3 times today in 360 and didn't unlocked for me, but the other guys on Xbox One unlocked normally.

1) It's still buggy, but can be got (on 360 at least).
2) 20 minutes pass by quite quickly if you play hide and seek with the cars. smile

I was the host and everyone unlocked the achievement except me (Playing on Xbox One, but wasn't my home Xbox).

We changed host and I unlocked it on the 2nd try

I think its to do with it not unlocking for everyone now, mostly due to people quiting out.
Ive not played the game since its release but i know it got a few patches

I just finished it with all three players and it didn't unlock facepalm Maybe it's because I am playing it through backwards compatibility?

I personally had this glitch out on me: 3 attempts on the 360, no achievement. While I can't b 100% sure this will work for everyone, what I did was simply do the jam session as the full solution states, except I did it on a fresh save file on the one, so none of the sp career was completed. Hope this helps :)

*edit: also, when I got the achievement on the one, there was no data from the game in the cache as it was my first time playing on the one. So it may be necessary to clear your cache if you're having to resort to this method.

My group needed 3 attempts.
attempt 1: only the dummy account unlocked the achievement. (probably because he had a fresh save game)
attempt 2: we all deleted our 360 data, but only my 2 friends unlocked the achievement.
attempt 3: I used my Xbox One to play the game and finally unlocked the achievement.

+ 1 and thank you very much for the solution!

glad my solution has been able to help some of you, sorry to the others. i doubt the failures did anything wrong, this is just simply one of those achievements that doesnt want to pop for some people.

This is quite a boring trophy and it can be tricky to find a game that hasn't started with 3 other people if you are searching on your own. So making your own room and only starting when you have enough people is another way to go. Obviously if you have 3 friends with the game it will be easy to set this up or you can find people to play with in the Boosting Thread (Trophy Boosting Thread). Once you do start, you will find that joyride consists of driving around the Battersea compound for 20 minutes doing whatever you want, there are no challenges or anything other than those you make for yourself so really the mode can be quite boring. You don't have to do anything other than just sit out the 20 minutes though and hope none of the others quit. Get to the end with 3 other people in the game and you'll get the trophy.

Find the Joyride mode in the Jam Session and drive around the Battersea Compound for 20 minutes.

The main thing is that you have 3 more players playing with you.
