How to unlock the Completed it mate achievement in DiRT 4 - Definitive Guide

First of all: Don't worry when you can't find the Triple Crown anywhere, you won't see the tournament before winning the final of either Rallycross, Rally or Landrush. It later gets selectable after winning all of the three (Historic Rally doesn't play any role here).

Like the other achievements for getting licences or winning finals this one is also pretty straight forward. You need to win one huge final event for the three types of racing with a lot of races. Especially the Rally Triple Crown consisting of five locations, each with eight races (two of them at about 15km long). The courses are the most difficult ones and some of them (mainly Wales) with annoying foggy conditions or heavy rain. Focus on driving clean and making no bigger mistakes, since difficulty doesn't matter like for most of the other achievements and restarting because of crashing the car can be time-wasting and definitely also annoying like hell.

Overall you should have it after about 8-10 hours and there is at least a little way to save some time: The Rallycross-events all have 6 races with the first four being qualification-races. When you win two of them you have no problem to reach top 12 to qualify for the semi-final (race 5) despite retiring after the start of the other two qualification-races since you even receive points (28) after those ones and easily finish qaulification around place 3-8. In best case you can skip 10 races of four laps to save 25-35 minutes. Good luck!

Worth noting you can safely skip the last event of each type at all if you won the previous 4 (or 5 concerning landrush) events.
This should save some more minutes.

During the rally championship you can retire from any of the 5 events as long as you win 4 of the locations. Saves about 45-60 more minutes

Confirmed. You always can retire an event of all the three tournaments and still finish in first.

Regarding the last paragraph: you're not retiring, you are abandoning the race. If you retire you leave the entire event.

The abandon race option only shows after the race has started. In the pre-race lobby you only have the retire option. Do not choose that!

I put this game down for a long time and I've returned to finish this achievement but after every race I'm getting a warning about not being unable to upload my results (which is apparently a known problem with the xbox version of this game now)... is this going to stop me from getting this achievement? This is a pretty big time investment to run these 40 races.

This also adds to the solution above... for about a extra 45-60+ minute time save is during the rally championship in the triple crown, as long as you come in first in 4 of the events you can retire from an event (8 stages) and still get 1st in the championship overall... for me I chose to skip over the whales event because I hated the fog and I really wasn't feeling to do 8-10 miles sections in the fog!

Can I still get the achievement if I'm tied on same points as first but the standings say I'm in second place?

Also worth a mention that in rallycross winning 3 heats allows you to finish race early for the 4th heat and still make it to semifinals. Also landrush you can skip the final event if you Over 25 points ahead in leaderboard! Saved me a ton of time

Firstly, you will have to complete either one of the following - Rally, Rallycross, Landrush to near enough 100% to get the Triple Crown Event unlocked.

Once unlocked, you will have to complete most of the races for Rally, Rallycross and Landrush. Rally which has 5 events consisting of 8 stages, Rallycross which has 5 events consisting of 6 races each, and Landrush which has 6 events consisting of 2 races each,

Tip: To save around 10-15 minutes, you can skip the last event (retire) if you come first in the previous events as the AI won't be able to catch you in the standings.
