How to unlock the Up and up achievement in DiRT 4 - Definitive Guide
You start off in the lowest tier and need 7 points to progress, you earn points but doing well in the races, however your points can go up or down dependant on your finishing position.
Ideally, you want to win a number of events in succession, as even if you place 2nd, you can see your points total go down (as this happened to me a number of times when on 6 points)
Winning is down to your driving ability vs the ability in the rest of the lobby.
The only tip in this instance is to play the game and try and get better, and/or hope for a lobby with some inexperienced players
The Warning:
I had ranked up to tier 6, which is enough to unlock the achievement, however the achievement did not unlock and it glitched on me.
I have a very strong suspicion this is the same type of glitch that occurred on the Dirt Rally online achievements.
I had this a number of times with the Wager achievement and some others while I played Dirt Rally.
Essentially, if you have an ongoing championship in you career (or even online on Dirt Rally), it somehow prevents online achievements from unlocking correctly.
I think this is the case as I had the final Rally championship in career in progress, before switching over to do some online stuff, exactly the same as I had done on Dirt Rally when I had glitching issues.
The Update:
I managed to get this to unlock by doing the following:
I abandoned my in progress career event, I had no other career events in progress.
I started online events in tier 6, I did a few races and deliberately totalled my car and/or retired to make sure I came last, then I did 2 events where I left the session, this gives -7 drop in points, but can also trigger a temporary multiplayer ban
Back in tier 7, I won 3 races in a row and ranked up to tier 6 again, this time it popped, as it should when you get the tier 6 point bar
For extra info:
I have 2 x weekly online events completed but pending the payout (this would have caused glitches in Dirt Rally)
I did not have todays Dirt Daily event or Owners Club event completed
I have not started the Monthly event
Hopefully that's enough info for anyone who has a similar thing happen get it to pop :)
This is me 2nd overall (out of six players) with the post-race results clearly showing me as earning 4 points: playing
This is me returning to the Pro-Tour Screen awaiting my pay-out and receiving fuck-all: playing
(I had to split the DVR as loading took longer than 30 seconds)
I have had a pay-out for wins but still I receive very few points. For 2nd (my average finishing position) I receive 0 points at best and sometimes take a minus regardless of the amount of players.
After speaking with other players and hearing about the points they receive for their finishing positions it seems that there is something very different / wrong with my game.
I have now completed 30 events (60 stages) and this pattern has been consistent for me from day one.
(Glitched)
We (as a community) think the glitch occurs when you land on the number of points needed to rank up instead of gaining more points to rank up. I.e. if you need +2 points to rank up and you gain +2 points to rank up, this will glitch the trophy. You need +3 points to rank up if you catch my drift. Thanks to JFrench55 for initially finding this out and others confirming it.
To fix this simple glitch, either rank up again, but gain more points instead of the number of points you need to rank up or get yourself to the bottom tier and try again.
To rank up a tier, you need to be an average or decent racer as you are going up against other players on or above the same level as you in terms of skill. You gain points by winning or coming at a decent place at the end of the stage or race. Each tier has different points needing to rank up.
It's best to boost, since there aren't many people playing right now.
Methodology:
1. For boost you need at least 4 people.
2. In the settings, set the driving mode to “Simulation” (this will reduce the likelihood of encountering random people).
3. The search works through one place, so be prepared to spend a lot of time on it, even if you are all looking for the game at the same time.
4. When the race begins, three people immediately press Retire after the countdown, the fourth drives a little forward and presses Retire as the last one.
5. You need 3 events, since 1st place gives 3 points (for a trophy you need 7). This way, all four will be able to get the trophy in 12 events (you still need to get 25 for Sweaty).
And yes, the tips below say that in order for the event to count, you need to drive a little and gain experience. This is not true, even if you go out right at the start and receive nothing, the events still count for Sweaty.
