How to unlock the UPGRADED achievement in DiRT Rally 2.0 - Definitive Guide

This achievement has been fixed with the latest update.

To get this achievement you need to purchase the final engine upgrade on 5 different vehicles. Driving in any event under My Team > Events will get you progress toward the engine unlocks, providing you are driving a car you own and not one that is provided for you. You must own the vehicle in order to make progress on it. As you drive the car, you will gain progress toward unlocking the next upgrade. It is based purely on distance driven and not on performance, so you don't have to win the events, just keep driving in them.

I would hold off on purchasing each incremental upgrade as they are not necessary for purchasing the final upgrade, but if you want increased performance while working on unlocking the final tier, then feel free to buy the intermediate upgrades as well.

Once you have driven enough distance in the car to have fully researched the final engine upgrade, you can go into your Garage and select the car and cn_RB over to the Engine tab and buy the highest tier available here. This is also where you can view your progress toward unlocking the next upgrade.

The cars in the lower tiers like FWD H1 and RWD H2 are the easiest because they have the fewest number of engine tiers to unlock and they are also the cheapest both to buy the car and to buy the engine upgrades. Once you have fully upgraded 5 cars to max engine level, the achievement will unlock.

If you have a bunch of extra money sitting around with nothing to spend it on, you can go to My Team > Staff and buy some levels of Research Knowledge on your Chief Engineer. This will let you unlock the max engine level faster.

If you already bought the max level engine on several cars, downgrade the engine to a lower tier and then upgrade again to the top tier and the tracker will record it.

Is it worth upgrading your chief engineers perk first? The cost of the perk to 100% vs the time gained?

If you have money to burn on it, sure. It doesn't take all that long to do without it though, so it isn't required. But I added it to the solution, thanks.

BTW, the trick with downgrading and upgrading again works for both starter cars (Fulvia and Corsa 1600) as well. The tracker moved up.

I have tried downgrading and upgrading again with three different cars (including the Fulvia), and none of them worked for me. If someone else has a different experience, please comment!

It's possible they patched that out. You might have to try upgrading a new car you haven't upgraded before, I'm not sure.

Just to confirm WholsJohn117's comment, if you already have the 2 starter cars fully upgraded, downgrade to level 1 and back to max still counts.

Can confirm the above too. Went through my car list and found a couple that i had upgraded, downgraded them and then reapplied the upgrade and pop!

Doing the weekly challenges or if you have time a monthly challenge normally gives you a huge chunk towards upgrades. :)

Let's be honest, the Group B Audi Quattro may pretty much be THE one mandatory car of the five to fully upgrade due to another achievement that requires it. The two starter cars are obviously another good pair to do towards the five, especially if you have that head start DLC.

As for the last two cars, it could very well depend on what ones you use for the three weekly challenges since doing one is often enough to get the car maxed out if it only has 4 stages of upgrades.

Sure upgrading the Audi Quattro would be useful, but definitely not necessary. The Group B Audi Quattro has a whopping 5 upgrades compared to most cars 4. I completed the achievement surrounding that car with Engine Mapping #2 equipped. The faster the car gets, the harder it is to control. I would advise against using it throughout the Career and solely use it in the Delta daily events. Focus on the starting cars as they are quickest to max. FWD H1, RWD H2, RWD H3, Super 1600.

For me personally, I nearly got it when the Quattro was stock. I had some crashes here and there which caused me to lose time, which put me in mid tier 2. If I didn’t crash probably would have gotten the achievement with the car stock.... but then again that’s just me. I would recommend minimum the stage 2 upgrade because that’s the biggest performance leap

Had an issue on xbox with this one, got stuck on 80%, for me downgrading engines for 5 cars from 5 to 1 lvl and then back to 5 lvl helped and achievement popped

A patch has been released that fixes this trophy, if you have purchased maximum upgrades for 5 cars, but there is no trophy, then switch to the first upgrade and again to the last one, so the trophy will drop from each of the five cars

The engine tab must be upgraded, upgrades are not necessary
