How to unlock the Damn This Kid Is Good achievement in Dirt Rally - Definitive Guide
Before the FIA World Rallycross Championship becomes available, you need to reach (not win) the professional level in the normal Rallycross Championship. If you can manage to do this then this Achievement is more than obtainable as your level of skill will be high and easily enough.
As you'll be aware already, the event format for Rallycross is:
- 4 Heats, with 4 laps each. You gain points depending on where you finish.
- Once the 4 Heats are completed, the 12 drivers with the highest points totals qualify for the Semi-Finals.
- You'll be in 1 of the 2 Semi-Finals and it's a 6 lap race with 6 cars with the top 3 qualifying for the Final.
- The Final is once again a 6 lap race with 6 cars, win it to win the event with a maximum 25 points.
- Only 3 events for the FIA World Rallycross Championship (75 points Maximum if you win all 3 events). Lydden Hill, Holjes Sweden and Hell Norway.
Buy a Ford Fiesta Rallycross Supercar and copy my Vehicle Setup (attached photo will be uploaded soon) before you race from the Service Area. Advanced Setup isn't required at all as I didn't have the option due to zero upgrades.
My Assist Settings:
Automatic Launch Control - OFF
ABS - 5
Traction Control - OFF
Stability Control - 4
(Using Controller)
Lydden Hill which is the first event was the only tricky one to win. It isn't even necessary to do so as the final two events are easy to win given your level of skill getting this far already. I would accept a 3rd or 4th place at this circuit. Getting a good start by releasing the handbrake just after 1 second left on the countdown is key for a start advantage. Brake early and slow into corners as the course is wet, smooth out. Make sure you're 1st after lap 1 then Joker on Lap 2. I almost settled for 3rd overall in the Championship after this event but decided to retry and I managed 1st with some lucky bounces off the AI.
Holjes Sweden, jump the start at every race with 2 seconds left on the countdown and take two Joker laps. Joker Lap 1 and Lap 2 always, the AI shouldn't get close with your early 2 second advantage at the start.
Hell Norway, get a fast start as always by releasing the handbrake just after 1 second left on the countdown timer. Try and get first place through lap 1 and Joker on Lap 2 always.
I unlocked this Achievement in my first attempt so in my opinion, it's much easier than Born to Run where I struggled a bit using the slowest car in the game (Mini Cooper). Maybe the practice in the normal Rallycross helped me with this Achievement or the Ford Fiesta Rallycross with my Setup worked wonders.
Good Luck! But I don't think you'll need it if you've managed to get as far as Unlocking the FIA World Rallycross Championship, copying my Fiesta Setup and following the general tips about starting fast, taking the Joker on certain laps as mentioned above and also Double Joking in Sweden.... and that's no joke ^_~
The FIA World Rallycross Championship becomes available to enter once you have reached the ‘Professional’ level in the standard Rallycross Championships. To enter the championship, you will need to own a car from the Rallycross Supercars category.
Winning the FIA Championship can be somewhat difficult and frustrating, as the A.I. are set to the ‘Professional’ level, and can be very aggressive in their driving style. I found that getting in front of them and staying in front of them was the best strategy for finishing each event first. The A.I. can be quite difficult to keep up with on some track layouts, let alone overtake; so in most cases it’s easier to exploit your restarts, get in front of them, and block them as much as you can.
I also found that taking my Joker laps on the first lap was the best approach. Whatever lap you decide to take your joker laps on though, be sure you are first into the joker section whenever you take it. The A.I. can slow you down massively by over-braking or unintentionally blocking your line with their cornering angle when they take their jokers.
Also, keep in mind that event wins are not 100% essential to winning the championship. If you can keep track of which drivers are in 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the championship standings, you can work out what your minimum finishing position needs to be to finish first in the overall championship.
